All "my car won't start" discussion threads are merged HERE. We've basically made it easier for those who insist upon not searching by grouping together all threads from those with similar issues so you can just scroll through and see some possible solutions. To search for info within this thread, use the "Search This Thread" feature in the black bar about 3" above what you're reading right now.

Could be anything from a loose battery terminal to internal engine damage, and literally everything in between which may involve the electrical, fuel, and ignition system...possibly even something that you screwed up while working on the car yourself. While it's unlikely we're going to diagnose and solve your problem over the internet, feel free to discuss any possible solutions.

I live in Canada and right now its not very warm out, about -30c
my car does not have a block heater too keep it warm.

I tryed to start my car this morning and it wouldent start, ive had this problem before but this time, the car doesnt crank at all it just makes a sound that sounds like an electric drill.

Whats wrong.

Thanks

go over everything you did . check timing marks check make sure all your vacuum hoses are on and in the right place and check all electrical connections .

So i spun out in the ran and hit a guard rail and destroyed my driver side rear quarter panel. The car ran perfect before the accident but now it wont start. i was just wondering if there is a fuel cutoff switch anywhere that couldnt been thrown, i did some research but couldnt find anything on it. also wondering if any internal engine damage could be caused from this.

Does it at least turn over? It might of knocked the fuel pump out of its holder in the assembly, I mean without looking it's hard to tell.

I'm a uti student and one of our instructors in advanced electronics showed us this. Without knowing when to spray fuel the engine will fire all injectors simultaneously rather than sequentially in order to ensure that the engine gets fuel to the right cylinder

?? You didn't even know that the car didn't have a crank sensor. You kept saying crank sensor. You know what the crank sensor does on cars that have them right? Controls spark not injector timing.

So for that to even be remotely true you would have to have said cam sensor. You would have lost your money sayong its the crank sensor.

Your instructor is wrong. At least in all my years being around cars and being in the dsm world world I've never seen A bad cam sensor do this. And I've personally experienced both bad cam and crank sensors on my own car. Neither time did this happen.

Even if that was true for one car(I don't know any it would be) it wouldn't apply to a different car. Cars don't all run the same way.

Sorry I've been busy. I meant to write cam sensor. I haven't had time to thoroughly check the car out. And yes I know the crank sensor controls spark. It's not easy being a full time student and working so give me a break. And how do you figure that if the cam sensor controls injectors that it wouldn't pulse the injectors in batch fire rather than sequential without a signal? I've seen it demonstrated. And I'm not saying if the cam sensor is slightly damaged. I mean fully disconnected when it does something like this. Like an open in the wire somewhere

The ECU won't do a damn thing without a signal from the CAS. The cold start sequence is by default to spray all four injectors. They should still pulse. Warm start pulses all 4 once, then all 4 again for a shorter duration, then starts to sequentially fire them. They don't batch fire. The engine either uses the cold start mode, or the warm start mode. A bad coolant temp sensor will not cause a car to not start. There is no crank sensor. The cam angle sensor controls everything.

Ok thanks for clarifying that. I'm just giving my input. It makes sense what your saying. Just saying what I've seen in some vehicles in the shop I work in and at school. I don't know everything about dsm's but I'd like to learn so thanks

I haven't since i got the ecu back from link, but my assumption is its in the ecu. Ya usually the Cas creates spark issues. Fuel filter is oem I believe. Never changed it, car ha 80k but sits a lot so I'll swap that out and see what it does.

Come to find there is fuel at the rail but the injectors are not firing. Any suggestions?

Hey guys, I'm going to keep this hopefully short and to the point. I've just put a new clutch and transmission in after the hold one broke. Now when I try to start it, it will crank but won't start. I've checked out the "How to Diagnose a No-Start", but was just wondering one thing. When I attempt to start it I hear a clicking noise, is that the fuel pump or something else? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Figured out my starting problem, it was my immobilizer. To turn off my immobilizer, I have to use the number 3, to turn it on I use number 4.

Trying LOL, I'm so damn busy I haven't even had time to work on the 1g. And there's plenty to fix. Is the wiring harness conversion from 1990 to newer really necessary? Sorry to thread jack

Found out, No spark, so I will look into what you guys suggested along with the "No-Start" thread tomorrow, and get back to you.

Edit: The coolant light is on, on the dash, would this need to be, correct me if I use the wrong wording, erased with a code scanner?

So the car is set up for SD? Does 'Link know this? Lol. Link comes set up to run a stock (MAF) car. It makes some kind of sense that if the ecu doesn't see a signal from the MAF (which isn't being used), then it wouldn't know how much fuel to inject. And even with my 1200cc injectors, my idle IDC is between 1-2%, if that helps you... Also, did you do any kind of setup with dsmlink before you tried starting your car? Def not always plug-n-play.

I'd be more inclined to suspect the CAS or fuel filter if the issue happened out of the blue. But it happened when you 'Linked the ECU, didn't it?

Well my Dad had my Ecu checked out by some electronics guy found one of the capacitors did go out and just started to leak I guess even the 105c capacitors can go badI just hope nothing else went bad with it

I know this is off the subject just a bit but does any one know where I can get new bushings for the automatic shifter lever inside the car my shifter is very loose and feels like its going come out of place
