I'm going to be pulling my engine out of my car this weekend. I've never pulled a 420A so I'm pretty excited as to what I'll find and can fix. I know I have a small oil leak from Valve cover so I'm going to be fixing that, anything extra I should look for or that I could modify while I have my motor out for a decent price? I am mechanically inclined so basic crap to look for will be done, I'm even thinking of painting my engine bay and motor so will see what happens. I will post pic's of before and after and maybe even during. If I don't get to envolved LOL. :hellyeah:

Timing belt, tensioner, water pump just to name a few and for the VC, as you remove it check it for warpage. I heard most leaking VC's are because they are warped.

Ya those are on my list as basic. If I do the water pump I'm going to be doing the timing belt so thats a given. Any simple mods I can add that are cheap? The car is completely bone stock so... nothing added not even cold air or short ram induction. LOL. Just kinda looking for some ideas as what could improve the overall performance of the car for cheap atm, while I have the motor out. I even considered putting in a new clutch kit from exedy basic oem replacement kit. idk let me know if you have any thoughts or ideas. :hellyeah:

Performance wise there is nothing that you can really do with the engine out other than putting high compression pistons in it. Why are you even pulling the engine. IF there is nothing wrong with it that warrants pulling it than you are wasting your time and money in doing so. I would just fix the leaky vc gasket, put new timing components and water pump on it in the car and get it real reliable.

Get some oem parts pulleys and a tensioner everything else can be gotten from a autostore, replace all parts in the timing area you should be good to go, even some vendors have most of what youll need for a job, not to bad to do.

Good on the OEM recommendations looks like... Off the top of my head I can think of 15 different mods that are all fairly cheap in their own regard. Jeep 55mm throttle body, Cam Gears, EGR block off, Headers, CAI, Cams, Short Throw Shifter.....wait wait wait, How much money are you trying to spend? Also, you aren't going to get much "performance" out of an NA. There's a guy around here that has the meanest NA 420A in the world and he was only able to squeeze another 100whp...ish out of it.

If you want it to be a little quicker, go with NA grind Cams, Cam Gears, no larger than 2.5" Exhaust + Headers, and the Jeep TB. Even with all that you won't really "feel" the difference. The first thing I would buy with the motor out? Prothane or Energy motor mounts and shifter inserts. You'll be amazed at how much more solid it will feel. All of that stuff together though will net you about a $1000. For about the same price you can go turbo and actually "feel" your investment. I ran out of pennies so there's my $0.05

LOL, Thanks appreciate your cents. I'll look into those suggested parts. As to everyone here I may be in the newbie section but I'm not trying to throw a ton of money at this car in performance because I know it's limits which are slim, just simple stuff because I'm just looking more towards extending the life of the car as a DD and making it look clean, unique, and sexy. I'm a nurse by Night and a mechanic by day as a hobby. I have 4 days off a week doing my job, so pulling the engine when there's no reason too is because It gives me something to do. Pluss I'm a little OCD and my new cars engine is dirty as hell, just figured I'd ask around and see what I could do for fun while I had the motor out is all. Anyway as to update this post I decided not to pull the motor yet because I'm going to be getting a new clutch kit soon and didn't see the point of pulling the motor when I don't have the part yet so... save that for another week. So for something to do I'm going to be doing the PLUGS, VC, VC Paint, and going to be doing a headliner and door trim dress up something plain and simple. I'll still post some pics, but for now the motor will stay in the car LOL. Thanks for all your suggestions. Hope you all check out the pic's when I'm done.

Well I finished my project for the week, I installed new fabric to the headliner, new fabric to the door panels, replaced Valve cover gasket, new plugs and gave the valve cover, heat shield and coolant reservoir a new coat of paint. So overall I'm pretty happy with the work I've done. I took some pictures but I'm thinking I should post them in the appearance section rather then post them here since most the the stuff I did was appearance upgrades. Hope you all check it out. :hellyeah:
