I just got my gsx and figured I'm going to start everything on the 60k list even if it has been done. I have done some searches and cannot find info on a few of my decisions. Please help.

1st is a hose kit. I want to replace all the rubber hoses and such as they have to be over 10 years old. Does anyone know a kit that includes everything? I found one from the forums but they seem to only have 1st gen kits and n/t kits. not 2g.

2nd is the t-belt kit. I don't think I'm going to be doing this myself, just going to get it done. Should I go to a tuner, or just firestone? Also should I get the parts instead of trusting that they will use good ones?

Im hoping to have these done soon so I can get a tune by the end of winter. Any help would be great.

1. I only replace the hoses that are hard, cracked, or worn. Most hose can be bought from a local auto parts store. Some have special bends & it is a good idea to get the original hose for them. You will also need new clamps, because those are like 15 to 20 years old as well.

2. Timing belt, go with mitsu. Extremepsi.com should help you make some decisions. Learn to do it yourself, invite a knowledgeable individual, or have a reputable shop do it. But if you opt for a shop, expect to blow around $1000 for the job.

Why do you want a tune? You barely have any mods that would make a difference with a tune at all. Money can be spent elsewhere. On other mods ie: wideband, dsmlink or evoscan, & other supporting mods.

If you want to do all the maintenance on your car then this is what you should buy:

First and for most a haynes manual.

Fuel filter
Spark plugs
Spark plug wires
PCV valve
Oil and oil filter
Coolant
Coolant hoses upper and lower
(If it's auto) Automatic tranny filter and atf fluid
(If it's manual) Gear oil
Gear oil for the transfer case
Gear oil for the differential
Accessory belts
Timing belt with or without balance shaft elimination kit
Tensioner, tensioner pulley, and idler pulley
Oil pump
Water pump

This may seem like overkill but if i buy a car and the owner doesn't give me receipts on regular maintenance once i get it home that is pretty much all the stuff I'll replace

Trust me when it comes to routine maintenance you will save ALOT of money if you learn to do everything yourself.

Most of the things I listed are really easy to do.

But when it comes to the timing belt, oil pump and water pump if you decided to do it yourself take it really slow and triple check everything.

I might've missed some stuff but that's about everything.

But then again you have other stuff like tie rods and ball joints and etc which your haynes manual will explain how to check to see if they're good or not.

First and for most a haynes manual.

Skip the Haynes and Chilton's manuals and download the 2g FSM.

1. All of the hoses are pretty standard. Just buy some good EFI and vacuum hose and start replacing them. For the heater and radiator hoses, try to find some good deals on OEM, as the "direct fit" aftermarket stuff sometimes isn't. Be sure to use good clamps as well.

2. Don't let any shop touch your timing belt unless they have specifically worked on DSM's.

I have already done that. The plugs n wires were just changed as well as oil and oil filter. Im going through all the fluids as the days go bye.

I am pretty good doing most things. I was just thinking about having the tensioner, tensioner pulley, and t-belt all redone and paying for it since its getting to cold out here. I was thinking about getting a tune because by the end of winter I'm planning on having a walbro 255, FMIC, and than all the maintenance. I figured I would have them tune it since I have been told to check out the apexi avc-r a few times as it can ruin your engine. Is that correct?

How hard is the t-belt. I've looked through the vfaq and it seems a little out of my league once I get into the pulleys and all. Any input? I can do the water pump by myself as well.
