I am looking to turbo my 95 rs. I know it isn't the best car to turbo, but to be honest it needs more HP and torque. My first question is, is it possible to turbo my car (with a decent turbo) without doing a full engine rebuild. My second question is, what would be a suitable turbo for my car? I was looking into either the t3/t4 or a gt45 turbo. Not sure if that would produce too much HP for my engine. Any info is greatly appreciated!

Yes its possible, go to Hahn they have the best kit for the 420a engines i have seen. But if plan on going for more than 8psi you need a complete engine build.

Any suggestions on where to start to put my own kit together?

buying the parts you need?

turbo
manifold
intercooler
piping
downpipe & exhaust
something to tune with
wideband O2 sensor
fuel pump
AFPR
a decent clutch if you plan to shoot for decent power
oil lines
tapped oil pan
wastegate if your turbo isn't internally gated

there's more but thats a pretty good list to get you started.

Hahn is a waste of money, piece together your own kit.

+ 1 I'm going with a Godspeed Turbo, a universal 1 sided FMIC, Ebay piping, and some SS braided plumbing, HKS SSQBOV, Vortech FMU, AEM Wideband, Walbro 255(May or may not need) Cast iron Log Manifold (Godspeed), and a Throttlebody Spacer (May or may not need) This is all going on my 98 GS. :thumb:

Its going to cost less than half of the Hahn Kit.

The Hahn kit is pricey but they did all the work for you. If you want a fun project start reading and reading and read some more. You won't have any shortage of results if you start searching for "420a turbo" .

The Hahn kit has everything you need to do a basic setup that won't blow your motor. Granted, it's expensive (I had the money to spend since I just got back from deployment). If you can source the parts list of what it comes with, you can use that as a shopping list. I ran it without a wideband or a tune for awhile and it ran just fine but a good tune is preferred so you're not running too lean. Don't plan on running more than 8 psi with stock internals any more and your oil pan might end up with this in it...

This is why my 2litre is now forged  mine didnt make it quite that far but that is impressive :thumb:

Sweet mother of God

I have my wife to thank for that (kind of). She was driving when it happened and felt so bad that she bought me a SBR Stage 3 block. It goes well with my SBR stage 2 head. I hate the term stage but whatever... it's built. :D

I am also going with a Godspeed turbo and a ton of other goodies. Im not getting a log manifold though, to plain for me.

I havent seen many other turbo manifolds that look like sturdy for our 420's:hmm:

just go down a little..youll see it haha

So pretty much if I want to run more than 8psi on the trubo, I would have to rebuild the engine?

depends on the turbo, tune, condition of the engine..and the tune. get a good tune and I'm sure you could run more then 8 psi.

Makes me wonder about how these turbos are defined by size or what. I'm still earning about turbos. the godspeed internal wastegated .68 is the one I'm getting for my GS... god I hope it works
