Big accomplishment for Ricky this past weekend- he ran a 10.92 @ 133.93 in his Holset HY35-powered full-weight AWD Spyder with a rollbar installed. Super-heavy car, super-fast trap speed for that turbo.

The entire day was full of unusual setbacks- the gauge on Ricky's fuel pressure regulator developed a huge leak while he was in the staging lanes...we had to do a quick fix to get him back on track. The pass before the 10.92 was run, some electrical gremlins showed up and caused a 2-cylinder dropout at low rpm. The problem went away long enough for the 10.9 pass to be run, then the car developed an oil leak in the area of the filter housing. Just one thing after another.

The other car in the video is Gabe's 2G which is also spec'd with a 2.0 6-bolt HY35 at around 37-38psi, the same as Ricky's. Gabe is on street tires and also has a blown turbo-to-manifold gasket, and was still trapping 133 the entire day. Look for more from Gabe once the gasket is fixed and he finds a little traction!

So here are two equally-spec'd DSM's running identical trap speeds using turbos that both cost less than $200 a piece. Enjoy!

I'm ordering a new fuel return kit and gauge, new master cylinder, and new shifter & base bushings ... and hopefully will get the oil leak licked by this coming weekend..i'll turn up the wick and lower the tire pressure at Hagerstown since it will be the last run of the year ...

Gabes shifter broke off of the base at the weld on his way home from the track LOL... They were shiftin the car by moving the cables for 20 miles until I finally caught up with them haha..

I am blown away. The Hy35 seems to be the Hot setup. I can't wait to get mine running. As far as I know, I'm the only Hy35 1g Automatic.

Haha I didn't hear that story yet! Wow, guess he really was slamming it into gear!

Must be a common problem. The same thing happened to me about a month ago. Pretty stupid thing to have to call a flat-bed for.

Best 60ft's of the day for either car were in the 1.8's. Gabe had a couple that were 2+ seconds from bogged launches and spinning while trying to get the launch control dialed in.

It was overcast and cool; no sun until way late in the day, so the track had zero heat on it...and it had rained the previous two days so they had to push the start of the event back two hours while they fought drying the track down.

You can hear both cars bouncing off rev limiter in first gear at the beginning of the run on the video- that's with 25psi in the tires on Gabe's car and I believe 20psi on Ricky's. Just no hookup at all.

Finally a fast hy35 setup! I've been searching for anyone running this turbo for a while! I'd much rather go with a T3 non twinscroll hy35 since I already have my Turbonetics T3 manifold. I'm looking to go with an hy35 and some 1000cc injectors and a wally 255 this spring. Congrats on the fast time!

By the way, how's the spool on this turbo?

I've been considering this route too. But I can't seem to find a deal on a hy35 or a HE341/351.

You could bolt a hx35 in the t/s housing to that mani. You'll need a manifold fold flange to space it out a bit. You should make more power than a hy, but you'll sacrafice a bunch of spool.

The other option, machine a t3 5 bolt housing for a HX35...

Gabe has had your exact setup for almost two years now.

Full boost by 4200-4300 in 3rd. No laggier than a bolt-on TD06H 20G with WAY more airflow.

You can find some really great deals on cumminsforum.com. I joined just to look and see how much they sell their turbos for, and I've seen a couple hy35's going for $200-$250 including the feed and drain lines.

That's all I need to hear LOL. I'm having oil drain issues because I have a T3 to TD05 flange adapter that makes my 16g sit about 5 inches lower than the actual manifold. As soon as I can get the money saved up, I'm going with an hy35 setup.

Well my oil leak was a puked oil pump... TopLine FTL ... i gave this one a ton of attention when I built it too, deburred all of the gears, put oiling grooves in the BSE kit, and still found it seizing up... At least that explains why the timing spontaneously jumped 15 or so miles ago and bent all the intake valves... . ... Oh well new parts will be here tomorrow..if the weather holds out for Saturday i'm going balls to the wall... drop the tire pressure down to low 12-14psi and turn launch up..it will go or it will break.. ... .. If i'm rained out otherwise I'm getting a really bad itch to race at MIR at Imports VS Domestics at least for some test runs as I'll never be competitive since I'm no way consistent at the moment......

My new setup is a built 2.0 Eagle/Wiseco 9:1 ... MAP Stage 5 1g head, kiggly springs/retainers/restrictor, BC288 cams, JMFab Drag manifold, Single 255 Walbro with bone stock fuel feed/return and AFI 1200 injectors..

I am pushing the turbo out of its efficiency range at 38PSI .. theres a spike to 40 psi every shift and falls to 37-38 psi .. Ends up right at 64 lb/min of peak airflow..

Spool on this car is rediculously fun... it spools up fast and hard... as Jus mentioned probably 30+ psi by 4200 RPM ... which in my mind is instant.... ... I went from a 2.4 w/ the .70 AR HX40 @ 40-44psi by ~5000 down to a 2.0 with this 9cm open T3 HY35 wish spool by like 4200 and the fun factor went wayy up...I can spin this engine to 8500 comfortably now ... and its definitely not as torquey(should make the transmission happy) but the car is just so more fun to drive on the street... and at the track i'm faster now than ever..

The breakdown for my run in the video is:

60ft 1.8677 (best of the day)
330ft 4.8758
1/8 et 7.2219
1/8 mph 105.83
1000 et 9.2440
1000 mph 122.05
1/4et 10.9288
1/4mph 133.93

This was my first time racing this car ever...and first time to the drag strip in a year ... first time launching the car ever, and first time on tires that actually have any potential to hook....so needless to say There is a TON of improvement available in my launch... I was afraid to break it as I wanted to be ready to race again this Saturday for the ECMLink meet....

oh .. and the rear end is not even LSD .. I have a few LSD's laying around though so i'll be swapping that over this winter i figure...

Well, I guess we know now that the 9cm housing will support 60lb/min now.:thumb:

Single 255 Walbro with bone stock fuel feed/return
Possibly the most impressive part of this setup.....64 lb/min and over 500hp on the same fuel system many 16G guys are using.

If you recall I was running a single 255 intank w/ stock lines on old 2g w/ the hx40 and even did the 575 hp run on that as well.....

The only reason I ever went to dual pumps bigger injectors, -8an feed, and all the rest of that crap on that setup was when I was fighting that broken FPR spring that was causing it to lean out like crazy on top end.....

That was an expensive week before the shootout trying to get that thing ready by Friday .. just to find out I could have fixed it by cutting up an old valve spring and tossing it in there.. ... good times..
