Here what happened, My timing belt started to rock it self off the cams yesterday, so i tour down the timing area and found the culprit, the pivot joint that holds the timing tensioner pulley on had come unbolted and made the timing belt come loose. So i fixed that up and replaced the timing belt. Now when i start it up it idles very rough, so hard that it shook my steering wheel right off my locking hub. I did a wot pull and my acceleration seemed to have lacked some power not all of it just some. It has become obnoxiously noisey in the high rpms. i timed every thing right. but when i started to think about it i never looked at the anti balance shaft. Doesn't the anti balance shaft line up when the crank is timed correctly? Or is there something else going wrong?

yes everything that is driven by the timing belt has alignment marks that need to be aligned, even the balance shafts. If it is not aligned it will cause lots of vibrations.

You need to re-do your timing belt and make sure all your marks are in the correct position before installing the belt. If you balance shaft sprocket is not aligned properly before you put the belt on it will cause everything you have just described.

This may help http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/art...l-installing-timing-timing-belt-6bolt-2g.html

i know that the oil pump shaft, crank and cams are lined up but i totally spaced looking at the front anti balance shaft.

You might have the mark on the pulley lined up but the shaft isn't. It only lines up properly with the mark every other turn. You need to rotate it 360 degrees and reinstall the belt. There is a bolt that you can remove out of the back of the block and install a allen wrench or screw driver to see if the shaft is in the right position. Make sure to remove the allen wrench before starting the car, and reinstall the bolt. Definetly look at the front shaft also. They both have to be set perfect to work properly.

thanks for all the help im sure i f'd up the timing on both the front ant the rear after reading that write up. ill do it first thing in the morning and i post back in the morning and let you all know how it came out and if it fixed it or not.

When you noticed it was loose, how bad was it? Curious if you had valve to piston contact.

I had the same issue for about 2 months. Just no time to fix it.

Check the rear oil pump sprocket. If you put the sprocket to 12 and it falls to 10 its in phase. If it falls to 3 then you need to spin it 360* and test.

Or you can find the plug on the block and stick a long screw driver in there and feel if its correct.

I did the the first one. Best trick I've found so far.

no valve contact, i finished retiming it and it ran so much smother. but i found the real reason for some of the vibration. after fixing the timing i noticed that when the clutch was disengaged it would shuter. So after reading some of our other fellow tuners threads i came to the conclustion that the tob was bad. Yesterday i bought the new tob and replaced it and sure enough the old one was bad. After buttoning it all back together i crank it over, started up perfectly and low and behold it started doing the vibrating again. so i called a friend of mine that works for trev tech out here in vegas and after a few hours we found it. The mighty 6 bolt had done the unspeakable, it was very mildly starting to walk the crank. :( made me want to throw in the towel. but im holding strong i just got done popping the pan off and the main thrust bearing and sure enough its getting worn unevenly and it was walking for sure. all i need to find out now is what size bearing were in there. I see 2 stamping emblems, on has a marking that says 1E and another one is a cirlce and inside of the circle is the letters CD anyone know if that is a standard size bearing or over sized?

If the balance shaft belt isn't timed right, it will not hurt the motor, just cause a vibration.

The balance shaft is fine, now its just crank walked, i ordered the bearing about an hour ago, they should be here around the 21.

just a little it wasnt much at all. i cought it early, i replaced the bearings the other day and the motor is perfectly fine now i just issues with the gs tranny ive been using. I think its the race bearing in it.
