Evo X 152G6 Compressor Wheel in a 14B Cover

I know you have at least one done..Have you put it on a car yet and seen that if would flow like bigger compressor with quick spool of the 14b?

It's not going to.

The 152G6 wheel has a the same size exducer as the Big 16G, Evo III 16G, 18G, and 20G....so no matter what compressor cover it's behind it's spool characteristic is going to be very similar to the 68mm exducer wheels.
 
So what your saying is it's just going to be another bastard turbo..That fits into the machined cover.

It's going to be the same turbo as it was on an Evo X with a 7cm single-scroll turbine housing instead of a 12cm twin-scroll, and the compressor cover is different as well. Rotating assembly and center housing spec is the same.

I'd expect it to spool slightly quicker than an Evo III 16G, but not by too much...probably not enough that you'd even notice a difference back-to-back. The 14B and Small 16G will spool similar to each other- the 68mm wheels are in a totally different realm.
 
As far as a 20g with a 6cm housing, it is NEVER going to be able to reach anywhere close to its potential so it would be completely pointless IMO to run a 6cm housing..

I know I plan on running it ported with a undivided evo 3 housing with a upgraded flapper and ported to probably 8cm.

You can't port a 7cm housing to 8cm. The 6cm, 7cm, etc, has nothing to do with the opening to the manifold collector. It is a measurement of the critical area of the turbine housing.

Picture taking a funnel, and rolling it into a snail shell. The critical area is the small opening of the funnel. No matter how large you make the large opening, flow is limited by the small end of the funnel.

I have tried to open up the turbine entry, and volute of a turbine housing, you just can't get any grinding tools into the areas that matter.
 
This is neat but I don't see the point of it. The real benefit of the Evo 8-10 turbos in my mind are the twin scroll exhaust, so how is putting the Evo 10 compressor on a single scroll going to make a difference over a normal Evo III or 20g turbo?

The only thing I can think of is this would be like the FP HTA68 but much cheaper.
 
I'll report back when I get the turbo, I just paid for it last night and should be here by mid-week. I'm excited I'll have the only 152G6 wheel in a 14b, even though it's not much different from an e316g. :thumb:

The twin-scroll turbine housing is indeed beneficial, allowing more turbine flow without sacrificing spool....but we're not discussing turbine flow at all here- this is just the compressor wheel.

Not even close. The 68HTA is almost the same size as a 20G- the Evo X compressor has an inducer that is smaller than an Evo III 16G.

I'm thinking in idea; as in the 68HTA is a Evo III with a more efficient compressor wheel and what the OP has done is just a 14b with a more efficient wheel.

So what will this flow and compare to anyway?

If i despirately tried I could. my porting tools will reach down the throat. I can even port the entire inside of a 14b compressor housing if i wanted to, i have done that before. ;)
Try all you want, you're still not able to port the volute all the way to the nozzle area (impossible), nor are you able to change the angle at which the airflow enters the wheel.

That being said...you can port a 6cm housing and have a ported 6cm housing, or you can port a 7cm housing and have a ported 7cm housing.

What's being said about porting a 6cm into a 7cm is like a Garrett owner claiming to have ported their .48 a/r housing into a .63 a/r housing. Explain how that's possible using the illustration below of a .48, .63, and .82 housing selection.

I'll see if I got pics of a gutted 6 cm thats on my car right now. Its off my orig 93 TSi I got new. Have used it on three diff Big16s and ran 11's on all three DSMs. But used an Old Buschur 02 housing with an HKS std gate on it. I tried various 7 cm housings with all sorts of porting but never could make the torque or hit that this particular 6 cm makes. Interesting project in this topic. Currently using a 14b on the latest DSM. Not sure if I will spend the money for a new Big16 or EVO3 turbo. Or try an FP68.
 
You arent the first. I did this about a year ago. When I built the "first twin scroll 20G" I had an extra evo X center section laying around. with plenty of blown 14bs laying around it seemed like the logical thing to do. its a great turbo on the cheap. If you can get the evo X turbo cheap. They have really good resale due the rally art cars wanting them for upgrades. I had the center section on ebay for about 4 months a gave up trying to sell it.
