I havent done the lower yet. As for the upper i think i took the inside molding off the top and the screws are there be careful not to strip the heads or the clips you screw into. There's 5-10 screws i think. Its been years since i did it sorry.

Anyone done the lower???

I was going to do something special to the lower like wrap it in carbon fiber. Possibly all the molding if i can find a weatherproof 3M adhesive and uv resistant CF sheets.:hmm:

Update:

MB88173, Drip Moulding LH, has been discontinued and can no longer be ordered through Mitsubishi or any online dealers. I went through Maperformance, MachV, JNZtuning and finally parts.com. They were all unable to place the order. I finally called my local dealership and asked them to locate this part nationwide.

There are 20 items in stock at U.S. dealerships (19 now since I bought one from Little Rock, AR) as of 06/24/09. If anyone is looking for these, I suggest that you go to your local dealership, ask them for a print out for all the dealerships that have this part in stock/in hand and order it ASAP.

Seems like they have them on this site for about $30 each

OEM Mitsubishi Parts

Just search the part number on page 2 of this topic :thumb:

They also have the Spyder ones.

Just because they show it online doesn't mean they can get it. Place an order, they'll cancel it and tell you it can no longer be ordered.

Just thought I'd put out the link. I have a spyder and I was going to order mine from there. I hope they have them

If it isn't completely messed up you can go to home depot and buy plasti dip. it is rubbercoating in a can. I am going to do it on my car tomorrow. Ill post some pics after im done.

I need to replace my drip molding as they are starting to get bad and showing the chrome. I tryed ordering offline through dealers and they said the right side is discontinued, and they can only get the left one. Seriously why would Mitsubishi just discontinue one side? Does anyone know where I can get the both of them, Thanks

Seriously why would Mitsubishi just discontinue one side?

That's not how the manufacturing world works. What it means is that the supply of that side that they had made has been depleted. They've sold them all. They've probably not been made since about '97, when the DSM plant thought they had all they needed to build cars with. They don't give much of a crap about supporting things that aren't coming out of the factory this week.

I just did a reno on my upper trim pieces today, and thought I would add a couple of pics to give a better idea on what your looking at while going through the process of removing the upper trim pieces.

also wanted to add that I did each side slightly different.
drivers side was done as explained on pg 1 of this thread, and it WAS easier to put back together.
psngr side was done by taking the insulation out down to the top of the door, then by taking the entire trim piece apart (there are 2 pieces, see pics)
this was much easier to get out, and back in, but the insulation piece was a complete PitA to get back in.
so I would recommend only removing the insulation as far as is marked on pg 1. there are also 2 sets of screws holding the trim on, the outer set holds the trim piece you wish to remove, the inner set (only 3 screws here) holds the "bracing" trim (best description I can come up with). these are noticeable in that they will be set in holes drilled in the upper trim. these also will need to be removed to make things easier on removing the upper trim. but be careful as the metal isnt super strong and seems like it would bend quite easily.

anyways, a couple pics below to show both ways along with the finished.

Hmmm... Looking through this thread there really aren't any before and after pics. Especially for those people whose trim pieces are completely cracked and just need altogether redone. Any luck/pics with the plastidip stuff? I'm real curious about that on my spyder.

Im going to consider using it if the method I used doesnt hold up, but it might take a little while before I have any pics.

i ordered and got the email saying they didnt have anymore, does anyone know if powdercoating these things would hold up well over time. If it does i might just take mine off, sand them down and send them in to get powder coated.

or hell even plastadipping could work
