Stock vs. Stock the E36 M3 would beat a dsm. When I had my stock e36 and my buddy had a slightly modified 2g (exhuast, higher boost, etc.) we would always race and he never could beat me especially on curves I out handled him no problem. On curves he couldn't even keep up, and would be skidding all over the place trying, and on good tires. In no way am a downing DSM's they simply put way more power out with less money. If you do have the money to throw in an M3 it can be a beast, but expensive.

I just have hard time beleiving that it would spank an awd..

It's just kind of shocking you know..I've never had a problem with curves or braking through curves..I love to boost around curves and still never had a problem..

Well, if this is how you'd drive on a road course, you'd be sorry very quickly :p

From my little knowledge of BMW's, they would beat most DSM's in the twisties, unless you suck an absurd amount of money into the DSM.

The E36 is a good chassis, and was one of the best in it's day, but that was 17 years ago.

Bimmerforums is funny. The noobs are always so cocky because they own something with a BMW badge. Judging by your tone, you'll fit right in. "BMW Syndrome" i like to call it. Have fun paying the "BMW tax" on all your parts, spending 3K in bolt ons and making less whp than a V6 accord.

Sorry, just thought a little dose of reality was warranted.

Thanks, Im happy with the power now 0-60 in 5.5 is plenty fast for me coming from a car that did it in 9. That's not why I bought it though. I bought it ### it's rwd with limited slip and great handling.

correct. Dsms are not set up to handle stock. gixxerdrew has proved they can handle incredibly with a ton of money and hours of custom fabrication. The m3 on the other hand is an incredible car stock.

I usually never brake through curves. I have done it if I thought I was going to fast or something..I've done some crazy crap in my car in my younger days..I've never been on a road course but it would be a blast..

LOL! Funny so true on the cocky part, most of BMW owners are, but not all. When I owned my E36 before it was taken form me on that crash. The only thing I modified were the headlights and rear diff (due to drifting so much). That diff wasn't to bad 1,200 bucks for top of the line LSD diff. I do say it's very expensive and I'm glad to say I wasn't cocky BMW owner.

Before we continue with this thread I want to set something straight. I do not care about making 500 million wheel horsepower. 240hp is plenty quick for me and easily enough to get me in a lot of trouble. I love the all motor 3.2. The torque is ridiculous. I can be on the freeway at 65 in 5th gear and floor it and get to 90 so fast. I like the reliability standpoint of na too.

How were you confused. LOL An e36 m3 is still way faster than a stock 4g63. 240hp and 240 torque. And it handles better and Is rwd. It's just better in every way besides making easy power like a dsm.
Congradulations on your new car!!! I'm sorry to see you leave the dsm world. I personaly would never get rid of my dsm for a bmw but its your call. Be prepared to spend twice as much when modding or doing maintenance.
In my opinion 2g dsm's look way better than almost any bmw I can think of so your loosing on that front but otherwise good grab.

the eclipse comes with 210hp and 214 torque so they are kinda close in that area, I guess it all comes down to weight, no idea what your bmw weighs but I know the awd dsm is a fat pig when it comes to weight so your probably good in that area as well.

:thumb: I wouldn't put to much into the car either. That car is great the way it is, but little mods can be useful. Be sure to be careful on your launches I broke the diff bolt so many times I can't even count. Until I changed the bushings to aluminum and also the sub frame bushings to harder urethane. If you need any insight on this car or questions message me. I know this car like the back of my hand. Also check your rear strut mounts they tend to be a weak spot on these cars and break off completely. This happened to me when I was an hour from home and had to get home going like 10 mph.

We're doing pulls the second you get the car. You already knew that though.

stoked! Lets go from a dig scott or a fifth gear bog :D

No problem! I'm glad to see someone who appreciates both the DSM and M3. I know I do can't wait to get another one. I'll still keep my DSM though.

Yeah I love dsms. I just am not a fan of awd or fwd. I loved mine to death though.

Here's pics.

They do have a huge advantage in aftermarket support though, as far as road racing goes. On that same note though, id love to see a dsm with a ford 8.8 and a watts link :hmm:

Great looking car. :thumb: Id say thats an upgrade from a n/a dsm haha

I love E36's, and stock for stock the Bimmer will wreck the DSM on a dry track.
But throw in some rain or dirt..

That's what prevented me from doing an E36 project, it'd be a car I could only enjoy more than the DSM on nice dry days. Overall, I'll get more drive/track time and as such more fun from the AWD.

Versus a NT though, Bimmer all the way, good decision.

Yeah, their quality road race stuff is very expensive. The coilovers in my friends ITR class E36 were over $7k...just the coilovers. He has over 10K in suspension alone, then add 4 sets of race wheels and tires, engine build, $7500 cage, etc etc. Factor in the trailer and tow vehicle and his is every bit of a $100K weekend toy.

Glad you sold it and ripped of a buddy, now go on to the BMW forums thanks.

I for one won't miss your bad attitude and know-it-all comments.

Don't like the color of the car either... Hope it works well for ya though, have fun.

TORCHED!!!:mrt:

Im just trippin because you sold your n/t for 6k TO A FRIEND. Your mods don't seem that much! I guess he was rich LOL And can we stop comparing the two cars which are totally different animals, gosh!
But M3 is a nice car. My nephew has one he's planning to turbo. He's always talking about it:cool: Ignore all the bs here, have fun wid it! How much was the beamer?

You call getting a BMW much better? :ohdamn:
An E36 M3 is a great car, very fun to drive. It would be a considerable step up from most of the DSMs I've seen on the street these days. And if you like turning the wheel (a foreign concept to many DSMers) it's a tough car to beat, you don't have to dump a ton of money into the suspension like you do a DSM. If I lived in CA when I needed a new daily driver I would have likely gone for one of those over my 2g. I will likely own one someday.

Why would you post on a DSM forum that a piece of old junk BMW is better, that is just asking for it. I'm sure the streets of Colorado are littered with rusty old DSMs.

Well my stock as dsm 6 years ago smoked one of those for 3 cars. we even switch driver, I'm just trowing it out there, twistiest is a lot different thing though. Anything is better than a 420a!!!
