quick question before i start to paint my car with this stuff, for atleast people that might know, for a two tone paint job do i paint the whole car with one color then when that drys masked off the part i dont want painted then paint it with the other, or can i just mask off the part i dont want painted yet then paint the major part and mask that off when it drys then paint the other way matching how many coats i put on

There is no reason to paint a part twice. Tape off what you don't want a certain color and paint the rest. Than after that's perfect tape the painted part off and switch. The only reason i wouldn't tape off first would be if your using a primer (which i don't think applies to plastidip)

so I spoke with a customer service person at plastidip today. The said the only primer to use is theirs as other primers will cause the plastidip to separate as the primer off gasses while it cures.

Secondly they said DO NOT use a degreasing agent prior to spraying the plastidip as that can cause it to float due to microscopic amounts no drying before applying the product to the car.

And now for the heart breaker, the white is as thin as I thought. The said to get good coverage I would have to use the roll on stuff or buy the make your own color kit and add tons of pigment as the white is basically clear with a tiny bit of pigment :(

So basically if anything is primered with another primer it will not stick? Where do you get their primer? I have never noticed or heard of it.

the sent me 2 links that sell it. they said they tried almost 300 different paint primers with almost the same result every time. it would sag and start to peel eventually.

Ill get the links for the primer but its on my work computer so ill post it up tomorrow when im working.

The description for the primer said it's not UV resistant but they can make some special order for UV. Are the cans UV resistant or even the clear coat?

Sorry if this was mentioned already, but how well does wax work on this?

My advice is to NOT use wax on this. I used a cutting compound on my roof when I was in the process of fixing an odd fading problem that came up after I sprayed. It basically mad e the platisdip look like it aged 30 years in the sun. So I would assume wax may yield similar results.

Actually, I'll go try some wax on a center piece I painted a while back to test. I'll report back later with results.

I want to just do my hood in this but Im not sure if it will be ugly and rice

What color are you going to do your hood? and why do you think it is goi to be ugly and rice? haven you not seen the tons and tons of pictures posted by everyone in this thread and how good the outcome is?? Please don't post dumb stuff like this in a good thread

That is a lot of cans LOL

So has anyone actually done the black with clear yet?

OK guys here is the red I only did one heavy coat..didn't tape anything just had an extra rim laying around and wanted to see how it came out so I said eh ill just spray it. .so this how it came out and I can't wait to paint my car with it

Yes I have. I didn't do a huge part of the car, just the rails along the windshield. The pics are in this thread somewhere hahaha

I'll re-post them if you want :thumb:

DOes it really cost about 90 bux to plastidip a car..Cause I got a quote from a stupid friend of mine today for paint..He said a gallon of paint is like 500 bux, and clear is waay more than that..DOes anyone do paint and can give me a better quote than that?
