, Im running 17x9 +45 and with the tire i have is 3 or 4mm front the knucle, a 245 would be +5 on each side, that means if i put a 245 ill rub 2mm but with a +42 offset you would have 1mm space put since you have a 97+ you would have 4mm of space from the knucle.

are you 100% sure you are running a +42? that must be really tight. my +30 on an 8.5 leaves me about 5mm with a 245/40/17 tire

You're better off going with a higher positive offset, and then add spacers as needed.

Not much room for "adjustment" if you go with a lower offset.

Example, I'd go for a rim with a +45 offset and then add a 10mm spacer to get an effective offset of +35.

He could be running a different tire then you. Section widths very from manufacturer to manufacturer. All 245/40's aren't the same size.

+25 would stick out the fender alot and wear wheels bearings rapidly, Im running 17x9 +45 and with the tire i have is 3 or 4mm front the knucle, a 245 would be +5 on each side, that means if i put a 245 ill rub 2mm but with a +42 offset you would have 1mm space put since you have a 97+ you would have 4mm of space from the knucle.

Awesome! Once again thanks for the great info!:hellyeah:

im well aware of this fact, they usually vary 2-3mm with the exception of R compound/racing tires which are sometime almost 10mm wider.

also stay away from spacers whenever possible your better off finding a wheel that matches what you need. and anything more then 5mm spacers you should run longer studs

I'm running +45 with 235/40, that means that you are using around 13 to 14 more offset with those tires, giving you like you were running +42 to+43, if you where running my set up, you get me?

The same thing should apply for a 2g though shouldn't it? 2g's do have more wheel well room, however they use the same wheel size/offset from factory.

Also, I suggest you read about 4 posts up. I'm not the only one.

I have some pretty new tires but I want to put my EVO IX wheels on my car already. How much would the 225/45's stretch to fit on the 8" wide wheel. I hope not much. I just want to get my money out of them before going bigger. 235/45

225s on a 8 inch wheel would not stretch, and if it does it would be very little so you are good to go. :thumb:

So I bought my wheels and they are not 17x9. I just felt I should share with everyone LOL

I ended up going with an awesome deal I got on these

Couldn't pass them up. I'll probably be looking for some Dunlop Star specs in the near future now that I have the wheels.

Those are Evo IX Enkeis.
I have the exact set as my wet road racing tire.

They are 17x8 +38mm offset.
I have a set of 235/45/17 on there, and they fit perfect.

I was going to say, 95-96 rear knuckles are different than 97-99 rear knuckles.
I run 255/40 17's on 17x9's with an effective offset of +35mm.

Toyo RA-1's are probably the widest 255/40/17 out there.
They measure a full 10.4" sidewall to sidewall.

What the different on the knuckles! Cause they all fit good!! Even the 3g eclipses
