Is it true that if you disconnect the clutch safety switch the cruise control won't work in 2g's?

And yes I know I could easily go outside and just plug it in and see, but it's dark and the roads are covered with snow, so I figured it'd be easier to just post a question on here.

All the clutch switch does is close the circuit when you press the clutch in, allowing electricity to flow through. When the cruise ECU sees voltage, it knows you pressed the clutch and if you were at cruise, would cut itself off.

So when the pedal's just sitting there on the stopper, the circuit is in the off position just like it would be if you unplugged it. The result of pressing the clutch while at cruise is engine RPMs surge and it doesn't cut off.

But that's the cruise switch. Which switch are you talking about? There are two.

I thought only one switch allowed the car to start without using the clutch?

Yes that's the clutch saftey switch. It has nothing to do with the cruise.

Well there goes the reason of why I thought my clutch safetly switch didn't work.

Any idea why it isn't working? It doesn't even light up, it's just dead.

There's another switch higher up on the pedal. That's the start switch. The lower one is for cruise, and if it's not adjusted properly and getting full contact, it's not grounding, and not letting you engage the cruise control. If it's not making full contact, loosen the locknut, screw it in and tighten the lock nut again. Sometimes there's a problem with the rubber stopper in the pedal assembly falling out and the pin goes right through the hole. I've seen that more than once.

If you have a multimeter, you can do the tests I did at 5:27 when I was troubleshooting something else... but I tested the cruise switch in the process and it's in this video (I'll try to link to the start of those tests)...

EDIT: Didn't let me embed the timecode. Just go to 5:27

Well I don't have a multimeter or whatever, but I'll go home and look at the switches and see if I can get it working. Thank you

Okay well I looked underneath and the white switch higher up is disconnected, and there is another switch that's black that is connected, is that the cruise switch?

I also noticed a fuse right behind the spring, is that to the cruise control? If so maybe the fuse just went out.

If the fuse is bad, replace it. I seem to recall something about it having a separate fuse.

If you mash your cruise power switch on the dash in and the light fails to come on while you're mashing on it, I'd definitely start by tracing the power circuit for it. I don't have my electrical service manual here at work to dig any deeper, but you should check all your fuses and go from there if that's how it's acting.

okay I'll replace it to see if that'll fix it. If that doesn't fix it then I'll ignore it for now.

...and by "light" I meant the one on the button... not the one in the cluster.

Mine I have to press several times before it stays on when I let go of the button. It's just moody.

That's exactly the answer i was looking to see ! What a coincidence this was posted recently. Does mitsu have this piece or any other way i can fix this problem ?

I used a piece of tape this morning and my cruise is indeed working perfect, until the tape comes off on the pedal acting as the stopper.

Ohhhh okay, I didn't take much notice when you said about the stopper and readjusting the bolt before, but I just looked at the picture I posted and realized where that was. I'll screw around with it tomorrow and see if that helps.

Would that stopper thing be the reason why it isn't lighting up either?

The stopper being worn- I just had this happen today. Searched the forum and Jafro delivered. Pics attached for future people with this problem.
