Here is my wife's DD. She drives in sun, rain and Colorado snow.

It a 97 with the bulletproof 2.8l motor with 180,000 on it. That inline 6 is a torque monster 189hp, 200fp torque and still can get 30mph on the highway. In snow country like here in Colorado and where the OP is from you must have the LSD with traction control since these are rear wheel drive. We picked this one up last year for $4k on Craigslist.

For 4k I would grab that as well, not sure how much I'd like the convertible. If I did my winter dd would be a convertible rwd car and my summer car awd LOL, kinda contradicting. I could spend anywhere up to 8-9k on a car, but the less I spend on the dd, the more money I'd have for me and the dsm. I would like something awd or rwd just for the sake of fun in the winter. An awd 1g has crossed my mind by I don't know if I want two dsms right yet.

wow....that bimmer for only 4 grand? I would nut all over that and then buy it!

If you've ever rode in a buick you'd understand. Very classy nice riding cars. The new regal has some styling that resembles a bmw as well.

and brownfinger maybe you should try a little harder to be a dbag next time your coming off a little weak.

I work at a restaraunt and like 90% of our business is old people over 60. And coincidentally 90% of the cars in our parking lot are all crown vics and buick regals. ROFLROFLROFL

I put over 500 miles on an '01 LeSabre this summer. Nice power, nice trans and trans management. All types of minor electrical gremlins, and controls in wierd places; clearly placed for old people who lack mobility. And a ride quality/handling that would make any true DSMer wanna stop at the nearest lot and look for a cheap 1G. Oh, and the headgasket on that LeSabre went out at 110K miles, after the passenger side power window regulator fell apart for no reason.

And another couple of friends of mine have buicks, too. Constant electrical accessory issues.

Guess where all these buicks came from? If you wanna justify driving a Buick because grandpa bought a new Buick and sold you his for a grand, I'm OK with that. But don't lie to me and call me a douche for laughing at you when you try to tell someone that it would be a good "driver's" car, suitable for someone who really wants an M3 or similar. At least a Crown Vic is RWD.

I'm being a D-bag?
I poop in your face!ROFL

What I was getting at is that the 2.8l and traction control is a great combo for a daily driver even in Buffalo. Look for a 328 or 528 with trac. cont. or AWD.

I HATE BMW's! I had a 94 530i total pos. Too much money to maintain a BMW. My car took 8 qts of oil! Only place I could get some parts was Carquest or the dealer, and they cost two arms and a leg.

I am so glad it took a major loss on that car and traded it in on my Camry Hybrid. I only got $1000 trade in and had at least 5k in the car. I think I have saved almost 1/4 of my loss in gas savings in the last 4 months.

So do you guys drive bimmers just so you can tell the ladies you have one? Seems like instant dbag status but whatev. For the price i could think of quite a few cars id get first.

um no, have you ever driven one?? they drive very nice and handle very well, and the engines sound so sweet. Most of the dbag status is done by the newer models by those that have no idea about cars and just buy it for the name. But any 80s and 90s BMWs are driven by enthusiasts. It's like saying people who drive dsm's are ricers.

I drive my BMW because it's badass. I get comments on it everywhere I go because it's rare/not seen around much. For 2g I couldn't go wrong. It's more fun to drive than my talon ever was. Dbag status? You sound like the typical closed-minded ricer.

a 2001 X5 came into the shop yesterday, very clean and mechanically in great condition. it had a slight oil leak (not dripping) and a bad motor mount. hopped in it to check the mileage and it was sitting pretty at 208,455 miles. blew my mind.

it may be a weird concept for your typical "DSMer", but if you properly maintain a car with good parts it will treat you well.

If that looks like dbag to you, then fine...but that car is so much fun-

but anyways, to the OP - you really should consider it if you're going to get a bimmer... e30tech.com always has a bunch but they're all over the continent. Before I found this one in Chicago, I was getting ready to ship one from Canada because I was sick of looking[searched non-stop for about 4months] I think someone actually has a turboed 325ix for sale on e30tech right now..looks pretty freaking sweet.

Well if that isnt the owner in that pic then thats exactly what im talking about LOL. But anyway if you dont use the car for road racing or something i just couldn't see having high insurance and high maintenance costs for a dd just to say i own one. But im the type of person that will never buy a new car off a lot. Im not going to be the guy that takes a hit in value as soon as it pulls of the lot. I mean as soon as you buy it its not new anymore, its used LOL.

ROFL! you're so ignorant...Insurance? my insurance on this is way cheaper than my insurance was on my talon - and way more fun. High maintenance? Apart from regular maintenance (brakes, shocks/springs) it doesn't need anything and parts REALLY don't cost all that much more than anything else- you just have to know where to get them. I've had it for about two months and have barely needed to fix anything. I'm not sure why you are discussing new-off-the-lot...Thats a 20y/o car...so..that doesn't really apply to me. That car is not only my DD, but my "fun car", I plan on dropping a turbo in it this spring, and will be auto crossing in it.

Yes, that is me in that picture. I'd like to see you call me a dbag to my face.

I picked up my 325i with an inline 6, 5 speed, and an LSD rear for $1000. That's pretty hard to argue with.

1000?!!! wow. it looks super clean too..mine has a little rust that I need to take care of...

Thank you. I lucked out as far as minimal rust, but It has a dent in the trunk and 200k on it. I think it was still well worth it though. It's awesome how much bang for your buck you get with these cars.

I'm looking for at least an e36. I'm going to keep searching for an m3. If a e30 m3 pops up, maybe I'll consider it.

Great pic though.
