I know the difference between the two the nt has higher compression without the oil squirters but recently i put 900 dollars into parts to fix my car and the head is cracked and possibly the block.. So i called a junkyard and they dont have 4g63's with the turbo just the nts. thats why i was looking for a thread that compares the two and tells me if possible to run my ecu with the new motor and if i can still run my turbo with it safely. My motor might not be that bad though and i might have to just swap the heads but i would like parts of the nt too.

I see. Yes. The n/t block and head are 95% the same as their turbo counterparts. As you mentioned, the n/t block does not have the squirters but that isn't a big deal. The n/t pistons are higher compression, (9:1 instead of 7.8:1) and do not like boost. If you are going to use the n/t block, please use your turbo pistons or invest in forged (depending on your goals). Most n/t block are already tapped for the the knock sensor but I've heard that some aren't so you may have to tap it. In the n/t head, everything is the same except for the camshafts but you can easily swap your turbo cams in. Your current turbo ECU and wire harness will both work without any changes.

Hope this helps!

Helps alot, How are the rods in the nt's? How does the bore system work for pistons and machining costs alot im am on a budget and looking into a nice build for my car. What kind of pistons would you recommend?

Depends on whether it's a 6-bolt or not. The n/t 4G63's came in 6 and 7 bolts as well as the turbo models. The rods are the same turbo to N/T, just vary from 6 bolt to 7 bolt. 6 bolt rods are obviously larger and 9 DSMers out of 10 prefer a 6 bolt engine over the 7 bolt. Personally, for a daily diver, either one will work.

To be honest, I'm not 100% sure if you can just swap the turbo pistons in without machine work. You "should" be able to but I would feel a lot better having a shop do it correctly, just to make sure. As far as price, it should only be a couple hundred at most, but you would need to talk to a local shop.

Another budget option would be 2g or EVO pistons. Then you have forged (I run Wiseco 8.3:1's on the stock 6 bolt rods) but it really depends on your goals. If you are just planning on having a fun street car, then the stock 1g pistons will work great and save you a lot of money (assuming yours are in good condition).

Hope this helps and hopefully someone else will chime in about the bore between n/t and turbo but I believe that it is the same.

The NT block is the same minus squirters. You will want at leat either OEM replacement turbo internals or stronger aftermarket.

The turbo pieties are lower compression to combat knock and allow more agressive tune. NT pistons have higher ring lands that will crack if too much boost is applied.

If you want a stock like build with stronger internals then Look Into the evo pistons. You can however find deals all the time on rods and pistons. Common rods are Eagle and pistons are your choice. I use eagle and mahle pistons.

If you want to make power then invest in ARP fasteners internally.

Ok, did some checking and the bore is exactly the same from non-turbo to turbo. On a 6 bolt at least, the bore is 85 mm (3.35 in.) with 88 mm (3.46 in.) of stroke. The only difference is the actual pistons so hypothetically, you could just pull the non-turbo ones out and put your turbo ones in. Like I said earlier though, I would recommend have a machine shop look it over just to be sure, especially since they are used pistons.

i put a nt engine in my buddies gst, didnt change any internals or anything, and it runs just fine, keeping inmind we have left it at stock boost, we did raise it to around 14 psi and it loved evey second of it. it was done over a year ago, and til this day it starts right up. even on stock boost it still has some power being that it is high compression.;)

Going to look into the evo pistons and might search around on craiglist for some deals, this is a junkyard motor with a warranty though, so i want to get everything correct the first time, but im going to end up doing alot of it myself to get the experience of a "real build" before i buy this engine i would like to see if i could build my old motor back to original form, and i agree on wiesco piston choice my engine was running 8.3:1's and i loved them, i just pray that i didnt warp the block making my build cost me alot of money. My passion is in these cars so i'm really trying to work out these problems that i have encountered, if you want some background check my blog "Getting her fixed up". I am looking into new things for my car, in my 6 bolt would i have to change the crankshaft? and is there anything i could have done running the car with a cracked head, give me the worst case senario. Thanks guys for responding to my thread as most people read it and dont post there two cents, i dont understand why when the educated people dont chime in :p well thanks for you help. Also what are some signs of a warped block, i know the head is toast but i have no knock and no lifter tick. so i was wondering if i could have damaged the rings or anything? I still have my forged pistons.

Just because it has been done, doesn't mean that it should be done. I'm glad that it hasn't detonated yet though.
