Any turbo's better than a Borg Warner?

I don't particularly like these threads, but to provide some more data:

My Bullseye S256 I used for ~2 years had no shaftplay when I took it off. The new owner has notified me however that there was some blueing of the center shaft when he inspected it, so I'm not sure what was going on with that. I'm running a -4 line from the oil filter housing, through a red FP inline oil filter (0.100" restrictor), through an adapter flange (0.075" restrictor). I'm currently running an off the shelf S300SX 88/75 (roughly a S364) which has not developed any shaft play with the same oiling setup.

That's myself vs Yellow90tsi. My car was built as a 100% true daily driver on the street, his is a top end beast that isnt the most streetable thing you've been in. He launched with 6500 anti-lag and I left at just a 6k stutterbox. He got me by about 2 cars off the line and another 1-2 during the pull. I was more than happy with my car considering the mods done to both of our cars.

My car is a full weight, full interior 2G AWD with an 8.5:1 2.0L, 56mm HX40(34psi in vid), pump gas, water/meth, cyclone intake, 272 cams, ACT 2600 and street tires.

Joe's car is a mostly stripped 1G AWD with aluminum rod 2.0L, BW364(33psi in vid), pump gas, water/meth, JMF intake, Q45 TB, 288 cams, twin disk etc.

Although we are in the same neighborhood of a build you can clearly see the intentions of both motors. Mine is for drives to work, his is a highway beast. Also keep in mind I see 38psi by about 4900 and he sees 35psi at nearly 5800. Ive seen 60 lbs/min and Joe has seen 70 lbs/min fully tuned. Again, totally different setups. Also, Joe's BW has literally 1/16" shaftplay in and out since week one. It still pulls like a bear, but not sure how it hasent blown yet.

To help with the OP. Personally, Im sticking with Holset. I have an HX40 PRO(60mm) sitting in the garage for next year. Joe, on the other hand, is happy with his BW and pretty sure he is keeping with them.

Wow. After reading about each car, you really did well. :)

I love all the feedback. It definately helps out a lot. But there's some info that'd really help a lot. Things that'd really help me at the moment are things like, motor size (2.0, stroker, or what), size turbine housing and what flange, where you see boost at what rpm, the power you're making, etc. Sure it'd be easier to make decisions with a little more info. I have no idea what turbine housings everyone is using and sure that'd help a lot. Extra info like all that would help me (and maybe others) decide what's best for my setup.

Personally, as close to 700 hp would be great. I plan to get a 2.3 aluminum rod motor after the turbo is installed. I'll be ordering my jmf drag manifold, Fftec tb, injectors, etc. sometime in October, and I'll be running 3" i/c pipes. Low 10's or high 9's would be great but still be streetable. Have a bunch of parts laying around now just waiting to go on.

Joe(Yellow90tsi)and I are both running the BEP T3 .70 housing. It would be really tough to make 700hp with a 58mm wheel IMO. ###### gonna need a 60mm+ with a T3 setup and supporting mods.

do they still make the fftec 75mm bbk tb.. i have looked all over their site and cant find it anymore

2.3L, 1.0 a/r divided T4, 20.6 psi at 5109 RPM, 30.5 psi at 5531 RPM. I went with my turbo looking for 700-750 in the end FWIW

I just noticed your car is a GST. I'm haven't seen to many 2.3L GST cars. With that added torque getting traction will be even harder for your car. You may want to stick with 2.0.

Ignore the gst part. Will be doing an awd conversion. Have parts at my parents but wanna get a carbon fiber driveshaft so I don't have to weld the brackets and get the tranny freshened up before I do the conversion.

I hope you stick with this plan.

I have seen many "big plans" from members (like awd swaps, stroker setups, big turbos, everything BIG) and they end up parting out their cars or not even close to their big plans.

I built a car before. Replaced pratically everything. But had a huge oil leak, burned up the motor, so I parted it out and cut the car in 2. Didn't wanna see anyone else driving it. So I've been taking my time planning this one. I want THIS build to hit all my goals if I have to spend this kinda money. This car has been the most reliable car I've EVER had though. Ironic for a dsm I know. But anyway, I plan to complete it. Currently running a T-28 and have another thread showing the parts I have so far on that one. Just overbuilding though for when I swap turbos. May be sooner than later though to make life easier.

I've seen a lot of local kids with the big dreams that never happens but I'm not one of them. I'm 35 with real intentions of a real build, and real goals that I'm capable of.

I built a car before...

I kind of lost interested. I grew out of that high school fast & the furious phase and when I came back to California there's no joke about what cops will do. If it's too modify they'll impound the car and crush it and with my HX52 and 4" side fender exhaust I doubt I could get away with that.

Anyhow good luck on your build!

Glad I live in Florida. Cops don't really care down here. When I was in Colorado they loved to pull me over for any little thing. Trying to get away with anything I can down here if it helps to make me go faster. Numerous Mustangs down here are LOUD and cops don't even blink an eye.

Cali, glad the state [if you want to call it that] and mentality is the one of the farthest points from me in the continental us. The 'sunny every day' and coastline drive isnt worth it. They would outlaw e85 and bite off their nose just to prevent quality street builds. Thankfully they are utter idiots and mostly harboring in that one "state".

Anyway, back on topic. Where are you guys getting your BW turbo's? Just curious. I was looking on the cummins forum at Holsets and the turbos I saw on there were anything but cheap for a used turbo.

Are you talking about the Tial V-band flanged turbo's? I don't see those being better than a divided housing. Just easier for maintenance and installation. Price isn't an issue if it works great. I'd just have to save for an extra month.

i'm with JJrock, way to many people talk on this forum and end up failing to finish there crazy street cars. i'm one of the few that will, hope you do also.

iv been wanting a BW turbo for a while, until i road in my friends evo 2.3 with a pte6262 left such and impression on me that i bought one ;)

give it some thought also!!

I called Bill from Bullseye and he hooked me up with a dealer that has a wholesale account since they cant directly sell to the customers. It was some little marine shop in NJ. I got my S366 ETT divided T4 for under 1k.

Well if it helps any, here's a few of the pics of one of the cars that I built that no one thought I'd build for whatever reason. Guess when I told them the plans I had for it, they thought I was full of crap. Well whatever, I proved them wrong other than not getting it to run like it "should've". Here's the pics of this one. I'll do better this time around.

Picked it up in Colorado from a buddy of mine when I was stationed out there. All it had was an ATR exhaust (which I'm in the process of modifying for my side exit exhaust right now) and a Big 16g.

Few parts I had laying around waiting to build the motor. Brand new Stage 3 Shep tranny, T-67, Comp 101400 cams, etc.

The result of losing all my oil REALLY fast (never found where it leaked from but it was a big leak)

And it pissed me off cause from day one of owning the car, it gave me problems. It never ran 100% even one measley day. So I didn't wanna see anyone else driving it around and everything work perfectly. Wasn't gonna happen. So parted it and did this.

Anyway, hope that puts it to rest about me not being able to finish it. Lol. This car wasn't in the greatest shape when I 1st got it but I've been doing a lot of work to it and it's getting a lot of compliments. Just hate that it's slow....in my opinion anyway. It'll get there.
