4g63 non turbo pistons in a 4g63 turbo block

Just wanted to know if a non turbo pistons can fit in a 4g63 turbo block. I would think they could since there both 4g63? i just wanted to know what is the compression of the non turbo 4g63 blocks. And the turbo 4g63 is 8.5 i believe. Thanks guys for the help just wanna know if the non turbo pistons are good my friend is using the non turbo block with higher compression and its killin cars just wanted to know your guys thoughts

i want to say the compression of the non turbo pistons is 9.3-1 or so -- think i saw that a while back

i would think they would fit but not sure if its a good idea to really boost put some boost on those,, not sure on that category
 
Yea this was talked about last week, as Justin said. Compression Ratios are as follows:

1G turbo - 7.8:1
1G N/T - 9:1
2G turbo - 8.5:1

Ofcourse This can differ depending on block decking, head resurfacing, and the type of head gasket you use, but they wont change much.
 
so just wondering why would 9-1 4g63 pistons make knock and not these forged 4g63 pistons?
 
Unless you have a engine managment system ie. dsmlink, AEM so adjust timing and to closely monitor knock then I wouldn't run that high of a compression in a 1g engine. The 1g timing map to begin with is a very aggressive and alot of 1g guys switch to the less aggresive 2g map when they up there compression ratio.
 
i think an important question to ask is this, why would you want to do this save money? if that is the reason im sure you dont have alot of money tied into performance parts so the the next question is what are your goals for this build? just to get it running again or what. physically they will work with lower boost pressures.
 
no i wanna hit around 350-400whp my friend is putting down 300+whp easy i assume he has ran a 12.8 at 107 on a stock n/a 4g63 just wanted to know your guys thoughts

i got a spare engine im trying to build up as a back up a temp incase i blow this one that im building i just wanted to know if i could make it a 9.0
 
again the compression ratio isnt as important as the fact that they are cast aluminum and not forged. i would not use them.
 
Yes they are, but the ring grooves on the turbo pistons are much further down from the crown of the piston and they are spaced a little better than on the non-turbo models.

There is no low-budget way to have high compression turbo pistons. About the cheapest you'll get off is buying stock 2G pistons or even Evo VIII or IX pistons and having your rods machined.
 
Lower compression is the cheapest way to make power. You can just get a big turbo and run tons of boost. When you want a car that you can actually drive on the street and want some good compression ratio (not 7.8:1 but 8.5:1 and higher) is when building an engine gets expensive and harder to tune. It is also more expensive to make power on higher compression ratio engines because you will likely need a better grade fuel than pump to make the equivalent that a low compression ratio engine can make on pump.

I really don't think the pistons are as weak as everyone makes them out to be. If you don't expect a shitload of power from a setup boosting on n/a pistons, they will be fine. In that linked thread I stated that I run that setup and that I knock probably every time I accelerate. Maybe it's just phantom knock, I don't know. I have no kind of tuning done. It just depends on the severity of the knock (the cylinder pressures.)
 
how much is it to have a 1g rods machined?

also what about evo 10 pistons are they the same bore?
 
I would not even try to use Evo X pistons. It is not even a 4g63 anymore. Evos I-IX are all 8.8:1 pistons, so it's only .2 lower than the Evo X. Evo IX pistons are the best from I-IX because they are partly forged.
 
are evo 8 pistons the same as evo 9 i have a hard time telling the difference and how much do the rods need to be bored to fit them
