I have a 95 tsi awd. My engine is fine right now but I am going to build an engine that will handle 400 horsepower set and tuned. I will not be turning boost up and down, once I have it tuned to 400hp, that will be the end of it.
My question is do I need to just do the 6 bolt swap,[headache] or can I change the crank with a 99' 2 piece and lose the oil squirters.
Forgive me, I am new to all this, just bought in December. I just want it to be dependable, and safely built. Any suggestions would be helpful, Thanks. Ninja :ninja:

most people on here are probably gonna tell you to do build up a 6bolt cause of crankwalk on the 7 bolts... I dont think its gonna help if you use a 99 crank.. now if you use the block out of a 99 with the 3 piece thrust bearing then yea that will be a lot better. I have a 95 GSX and used the block out of a 98 Talon TSI( 3 piece thurst bearing) and I havent had any problems of crankwalk or anything... ;)

people will say use a 6 bolt but Crankwalk is not as common as most people claim it to be maybe 1 in 25000 7 bolts will have it happen. And it can also happen to other cars example: Supras and Miatas. And there have also been 6 bolts crankwalk a clutch not perfectly installed can cause it. So i Vote on rebuid the 7 Bolt. One more thing ive had my GST for 4 years and besides a blown headgasket not much trouble at all. Also when you say 400hp 7 bolt people will not expect it.

(link for supra crankwalk please read this about crank walk ! - Page 3 - Supraforums.com )

Update: Also use 1st gen rods like these guys are saying they are great. If you go 6 bolt though use the Head off of a 2nd gen they flow way better than the 6 bolt head.

7 Bolt FTW!!

or you can do the set up I have:D... I used a 98 block with split thrust bearing as I metioned on my first post. Picked up a set of evo 9 pistons and rods, had it all balanced, new bearings, arp main studs, and I gotta say Im very pleased with it. :hellyeah: I think crankwalk is over rated sometimes, its never happened to me but its your choice on what you want under your hood. good luck though:thumb:

LOL yea how much were the Evo 9 rods and pistons.

I got lucky on my deal, picked them up for $100 bucks at slowboy racing (when they were in Pa they moved to florida:notgood:). I was in the process of rebuilding my motor at that time too, Im not sure how much they go for. I believe DSM grave yard sells them now

Ahh ok im may use them when i rebuild mine in the future.....after i buy a new shell

Build your 7 bolt and use ACL Race Bearings, it will be fine. You don't need a 6 bolt to get 400 hp reliably.
