i am about to begin a (for the most part) ground up 2g awd build, with a 6 bolt motor...

im looking to get the best performance yet, still be able to daily drive it...

heres the story... my cousin owns a 2010 2SS camaro, that is supercharged, and sits at about 520whp, he stopped over the other day and just kept busting me on my car, and what im planning on doing...

hes never taken it to the strip, and ive only been to the strip once or twice, so the bet stands that i cant make my talon faster than his car, and still daily driveable, so im looking to get your guys opinions about this, and also throw some ideas of how you would go about this build... ive built a few cars before, but this is my first DSM full build.

THANKS! cant wait to hear what you guys have to say!:hellyeah:

I like the new camaros, but I still hope you smoke him. It bothers me when people think they are faster than all just because they drive a muscle car. The looks on their faces when they get smoked is great.

well were both plan to run 3 times, so its just the best out of 3 basically

The only thing is, he's gonna see you take off faster and if he's not already mashing it to the floor he's gonna and just spin the tires even worse. As long as you get your car so it takes off good and keeps going fast with mods you'll take him
and besides if you took the the extra $30,000 and dumped it into your car that he spent on yours, it wouldn't even be a race
So what i think is just mod your car to around 450-500 hp and you'll whoop him
its all about traction is drags and you'll have no problem with that being awd:D

yea, im not sure what goal im gonna need to beat him, i wanna just make enough, so i dont have to sell my arms to pay for it :)

im thinking if hes making 520 to the wheels, and he has no weight reduction, if i do some weight reduction, me car would me significantly lighter than his +AWD i should take him easily with about 400 or so...

With 400whp and AWD you should beat him. Here is the big thing, you said he is running street tires. That is the big term for this race. I just do not see him putting all that power to the ground. My buddy has a 1g AWD with a 16g turbo and a few other mods. I know with his traction he can beat my Mustang. Yeah, highway run may be a different story but, you are racing on a track. 400whp and AWD vs 520 rwhp and street tires= you have an extra $1000 in your pocket. Enjoy it.

yea, i plan on building a 240sx after this. the 1k will be a nice start :)

I believe you have the ENTIRE DSM community watching this thread! I know I'm excited! It's like watching a movie, each page a new scene! And yeah, you should def print this out to show your cousin all the conniving you did! Subscribed. And good luck! :D

I like the new camaro's a bit but I would go for a DSM over one of them any day. I think you've got this with what you've put in the car so far and what you've said you're planning to put in it. Good luck man. Whoop his ass!! :thumb:

make a video of the race and give the muscle car guy a copy of it. then have him go and show the dealer he bought it from and demand to get his money back

Why do you want to stay internally gated? If you run something like an HX35, you won't be able to get the most out of it without switching to an external wastegate.

I wouldn't run an internal gate for any build to utilize over 400whp. An evo3 16g can do it. But the back pressure would certainly blow the gate open unless you shim it so tight that you have no boost control below 30psi in the midrange.

Hx35 can and has done this. External gate or you'll blow the flapper open on the bolton housing for sure.

FP3052 is another bolton that can and has done this. But the FP30 turbine housing requires an external gate too.

TD06 20g can and has done this. Expensive for what you get if you find the td06 version internally gated. FP doesn't offer it on their website anymore.

PTE 50-trim. Good luck getting the flapper to stay shut with their tiny high back pressure prone bolton housings. In fact, good luck seeing over 450whp with a bolton housing.

s256 bolton. See hx35 since it has the same tubine housing.

The hx40 and the s259 are other good options that I would consider the next step from the 500whp range and have proven to allow for alot of growth room. There are no boltons making as much power as these two turbos right now.

Please take this to the track. Average the three timeslips. Not only is it safer. But it evens opportunities. No "there was a dip in the road", or "I hit gravel", or whatever he's going to whine about. But really, most important thing is that it IS safer. It's an environment prepared for drag racing. Who wouldn't take their car there to meet a challenge to a drag race.

i deff want to do it at the track, this way there isnt any excuses... ill make a video, and register to the new camaro forums, and post it up :)

The launch is where your gonna win this race. If you have the power to get going quick and hold strong boost, its gonna be a tough win for him.

Just yesterday I was next to a CTS-V at a stop light in town. We decided to launch and see who pulled. The V could not get the tires to stay put, after only a few hundred feet it was clear they had no chance.

I would shoot for the 400-500hp range with an HX35, external gate would probably be the best idea... but they can be done both ways.

Now I am subscribed to this thread! Best of luck man, cant wait to see some videos of the drags!

Also don't forget to post the vid on the video page here...and on youtube, and on streetfire...and try to send it to speedvision.

No pressure...but every mitsubishi owner with an internets is counting on you.

Then take him to an Auto X event and post that vid too.

oh man, thats alot of pressure... LOL i have a pending sale on my red talon, so lets cross our fingers, hopefully i can sell it to finish this build!

when you get to the track, after you smoke tell him he owes you a ten seond car, and tell him that you didnt want a ten minute car because hector is running 3 honda civics with 3 spoon engines all with t66 turbos, which will give you more of a fight than your cousins ss. by the way, he could have built a 8-9second dsm with the money he used to buy the ss and supercharge, if you have 400whp you can run in the high 11's, my uncle ran mid 11's with 450whp around there, also he ran tens with 600hp so 400whp your good, for the sticker he should have "dsm is my daddy" then make him change his license plate to V-TEC, then ask him what the retail on one of those cars is and then hell say more than you can afford pal, V-TEC, then ill tell you to smoke him. after the race is over, just ask him WHOS YOUR DADDY? LOL good luck with the race bro mad props to you no doubt youll win :hellyeah:

well now that i am actually building this car, my cousin stopped by and said he doesnt wanna beat his car at the track... so i have a feeling he doesnt want to race... idk, i guess we'll see....

OMG:notgood: no way! LAME!!!!!!! Is he scared? Man i reeeeeeeeeeeally wanted this race to happen..what ever you do dont let him back out, raise the stakes or something!

Atleast if he does flake out you'll still have a 400-500hp dsm haha

How's the build going anyways? Got pics:D

myself i just seen a 2010 camaro ss get stomped by a 1991 eclipse gsx. the 91 is my uncles car and hes making just shy over 460 AWHP on his mustang dyno and his engine is a fresh rebuild with evo 9 pistons, 5 angle valve job, delta 272, stage 2 port, ams ems. he still hase the a/c and power steering working in his car as well. hes back to beeing cheap and using a crappy e-bay knock-off turbo as well. did a few passes with a customers new 2010 camaro ss and his 91 at the old metro airport here in michigan. and this was just yesterday.

2010 camaro running 20" ultraleggera rims with stock brand rubber
1991 eclipse running 17" rota rims with toyo proxes

Eh who cares, you can build almost any car to beat any other car but is it worth it? I don't take my ZO6 to the track because there's no need to prove anything because the car is already badass the way it sits and it doesn't need to run some crazy numbers at the track just so people don't think it's just an old piece of junk. Sure my gsx back in the day ran a faster 1/4 mile than the ZO6 could, but seriously which car is more pimp and why risk damaging a nice car?

if you go with Delta HKS 272's or K272's they are a cheap quality alternative:thumb: Nice thread i cant wait to see where this goes!

My thing is this, and remember it is my opinion, not fact, truth, the word, etc...... Why own a car that you do not use for what its intended purpose is? Even if I had an Aston Martin DBS, I would still take it to the Drag Strip. It is not so much about having something to prove but, taking pride in your hard work. There is nothing like working hard, taking some of that hard earned money and treating yourcar to goodies, then going back to the track to see the difference.

These cars are made to be driven fast, Eclipses, Mustangs, Vettes, etc.... If it was not for people taking these cars to the track, we would probably only have gas sipping micro machines to choose from. It is the knowledge that there are people who take these cars and mod them, race them, that fuels the wars between companies.
