damn so I guess ill be selling my 91 eprom ecu .. Just wondering if 90"s come eprom??
The main differences
throttle body and TB sensors
coil packs
ECUs
Gauge cluster. I've read the 90s read 145mph (mine does) and 91-94 read 140mph but don't quote me on this as I've not noticed in person.
22 spline transfer case which in turn makes the transmissions different
CAS, yes you can swap to a later model
The oil filter housing and water pipe is different as the 90's have an oil cooler
The shifter base, cables, and bushing are different
The fuel rails are also slightly different if I remember right
I think thats about it but I may have missed some things
The 90's also were the only year that all the awd's were equipped with a rear LSD as anti-lock brakes were not available.
Most 1990's have eproms. I've never of heard of one without.

if the 91+ AWD didn't come with an LSD what'd they have instead?
I had the ECU rebuilt in a 1990 TSi AWD for a customer of mine a couple summers ago. It was a numbers-matching ECU that wasn't switched (car was all stock), and it definitely wasn't an EPROM.
Most definitely..and a strong one as well. One plus is if you get a '90 that's all original, you're guaranteed to have a 6-bolt under the hood....no guesswork like the '92 owners.
