I vote for Sean then. Mitsubishi, Eagle and Plymouth never released a RWD dsm, therefor i feel as Buschar's RWD talon is classified kinda as a dsm, but i would classify it as exotic or extreme 4G63 powered class. I would give Buschar the credit of first 4G63 powered car to run 9's but Glazar for first DSM to run 9's. Just my opinion.
QUOTE]

I couldn't have said it better myself, so I'll just quote it.

It's too bad the DSMTimes.org site doesn't get traffic like it used too, it's tough to know how accurate any list is right now. Plus I've heard "claims" of cars that have beaten records although no info can be found on them. It's still about the best resource we have to keep up to date on the "records". Of course I tried to submit my time weeks ago and it's not up there, who's in charge of the site now anyways?

I'm sure there are some that aren't on the list. I remember some of those "claims." If I remember correctly the guys' name is Brian that runs the list. I had trouble submitting my 11.59 in July, and I had to personally email him with the info and then he put it up. I submitted the 11.49 on October 24th and it accepted it on the site but it's not up yet......he's not too quick to update unfortunately. If I ran that list I'd update at least the 1st of every month, hell, sometimes if they don't and you race alot you may never get your time updated if you keep running quicker...

All i remember is when i was pushing the 14b on my white '93 talon my 12.42 put me at #9 on the list. But i think that was back in '02-04 somewhere in there. A lot of people jumped on that band wagon since then. Now its 14b 11's or bust!

Yeah, I remember that Jose......and well, there's more to that than meets the eye. Obviously, I would credit Dave B. with 13's, 12's, 11's. As I view DSM dragrace history, that's where the credit stops. Yes, Switzer was a Buschur guy, and maybe he was employed by Buschur at the time....if he was ON THE PAYROLL, I eat my words and Buschur is also credited with "first in the 10's."

Yea, I'm with you on this. Any modifications to the chassis, back half tube, full tube, to include drivetrain reconfiguration i.e RWD dont count as a "true" DSM in my book. Dont get me wrong I love seeing 4G63 powered beast in any configuration, but they are not "true"DSMs. If you are going to go that route just make a 2000 Horsepower 4G63 powered rolling tube chassis and put a fiberglass 1G shell on it, Funny Car style and have John Force pilot it.

And then on the Turbo article I thought it was a little overzealous on its statement about the Buschur camp. That is why I put it there. Thought they were a little too pro buschur.

Also Phil you know we cant forget the Pruven guys, they had some nice cars in the day.

I vote Sean as well. Buschur's 2G was a tube frame car right from the start.

Found a 14b list that I printed on 9/26/05:

Tommy Watkins [email protected]

That was the top ten. Jose, ArcticTSi should be in there at his 12.1 best I think....

Yea Phil, this 12.178 time is actually my time. I ran this on 17 April 2004. Some where along the way this Tommy Watkins name got put next to my time. I wrote the guys over at DSMtimes about their error, but like you said, its updated so rarely, that my email probably got discarded, so I just gave up on trying to have it fixed. I do remember when I made this pass, I was one of the fastest 14b cars. I think it was Leon who had jumped to the #1 spot at the time with 11.84. Plus that 12.178 time was done right before I had to put the car back in storage. I remember I drove it four hours to the track and made that pass probably 45 minutes after arriving so it was still hot from the drive. I was happy though, cause she was built up for autoX and road course and just happen to be quick at the strip. Its hard to belive it has already been almost 5 years since then and the talon is still in storage.

here was my slip and vid from the "Tommy Watkins" time above

Phil i think youre my idle. Honestly...since the day i was on this forum i've been so eager to learn everything you've had to say and that you do. Reading stuff like this is just amazing. You're the reason me and my brother have started building a 14b car. ;)

ok! I will have to see if I printed one then......or did you ever submit it?

Right now, you would be #23. I slipped to #7 by '05 after being #1 in '01, and then as the list above shows, I slipped to #11 by '08.

I don't see your name on the list Trav...why don't you get it up there? Wait til after you run one more time this year, if you do, and then get it up there, you're an active 14b guy!

As of this morning, my 11.49 has not been updated.:|

And then on the Turbo article I thought it was a little overzealous on its statement about the Buschur camp. That is why I put it there. Thought they were a little too pro buschur.

Well, what I meant when I said there's more than meets the eye there....Dave B. was friends with Michael Ferrara, the guy that worked for Turbo Magazine and owned the red talon like mine that was "Project Turbo Talon." He now has his own magazine, DSPORT. I still have all those old turbo mags somewhere. This is why it was "pro Buschur." I was happy because I was quicker than the magazine car until they bolted a bigger turbo on it and even then wasn't far off:D That car was plagued with problems. I was out in Cali in '96 and went to an import event in Bakersfield. That car spent most of the event loaded up on the trailer broken. Adam Saruwatari went 10.4@135 in his RX7, that's how long ago it was.

Yea, I'm with you on this. Any modifications to the chassis, back half tube, full tube, to include drivetrain reconfiguration i.e RWD dont count as a "true" DSM in my book. I agree 100%

Also Phil you know we cant forget the Pruven guys, they had some nice cars in the day.

Dan did have his killer black dual exhaust street GSX that went 11.0@126 in the SCC Ultimate Street Car Shootout, and the orange racecar at 9.6@142 was a nuts pass back then. No NOS. He hit 9's a long time ago and then threw in the towel I guess. I bet he'd be well into the 8's if he stuck with it.

Ahhhhh.......Jose, if you want to give me your last name I will work on getting it set, you are still at #14..............yeah, I remember once Leon hit 11's, and 11.84 sounds right for his first best in the 11's, he then hit like 11.75 on the following Wed. night or Friday night, and then the 11.64 the next weekend. If I remember correctly, it all happend within a week or two. And I was stuck at 12.009. I was at a Friday dragday track rental trying to hit 11's and didn't, and the next day Leon hit 11's!

Chad--thanks alot for the words! I have heard similar words in the past from a few guys on the 14b(some that are up here on the board)so I really appreciate it. It's nice to know I can still provide some motivation for cars on the stock turbo after all these years! I'd like to hear about your project sometime. Maybe you can post a thread about it? Good luck with it and thanks again!

I have never submitted my best E/T passes to a site before. I have only posted up my results in a thread or put my times in my profile and or signature. Phil you are more than welcome to and have my permission to submit my previous 14b times if i'm unable to beat them by the end of the year, looks like i may have one last shot at hitting the track on Sunday. My best 14b time was with my '93 awd talon of 12.42 i belive the trap was 110-112 and my 60' was either 1.69 or 1.72

I am looking to beat my personal 14b record with my laser and would love to crush it with a 12.3 sec pass. When i ran 12.42 in my old car, i had prokit with agx in the rear and i also was going -10% fuel via afc and pocket logger. I plan on trying to beat this record with my laser with no suspension mods and no tuning what so ever. So running the 12.3 isn't the biggest feat, it's just doing it with a lot less help from the parts. It will all come down to driving and getting a good 60'...and getting the car in to second gear. :banghead: Let's see what happens on Sunday and we'll go from there.

I would eventually like to install a Holset HX-35 turbo, but money is tight and to install the turbo i would also need to pick up a 44mm v-band tial and dump tube, BEP turbine housing, oil drain and feed kit, bigger injectors, the turbo itself and tune it. Not to mention dsmlink which i've already budgeted in. With that being said, i'll probably have the 14b on there for quite some time to come. I also feel that i should address the suspension so that when i get the turbo on and tuned and the car is making another 200whp more than it is now that i don't wreck the car due to extreme suspension travel under boost. I also feel that any more weight mods that i may do before upgrading will help the 14b set up and be even more exaggerated if and when i bolt on a larger turbo.

But for now i would like to continue my 14b adventure as i continue to mod the car and would eventually like to see a 11.99 with more mods on the 14b on the car street driven, but would like a 12.3 on stock suspension with no tuning.

Do you have the old timeslip? It's really easy to submit but I'll gladly do that for you. If not, we should at least get you on the list at 12.69.

You CAN beat the 12.42.....for sure....then we'll use that number!

I'm thinking of having my friend design a site for me with all things 14B and one of them will be a 14b 1/4 list that I WILL oversee and update regularly, how's that sound?

I hope you get the chance to run.....and keep the 14b on there for a bit and hit that 11.99.....you can do this as well, you're running strong so far!

I have sumitted new beat times 3 times to dsmtimes.org (11.4 then 11.1 then 10.8). The site was last updated oct 10. I think my 11.4 was In September. Hahaha. Not upto date at all.

Not to mention there was now way to filter two runs for same car. My 11.44 nos run is on the 14b list, but not my 11.9 run from same 2004 season without nos.

Yep, that's why Joe B's NO NOS time is in his comments section at the right. I liked James Heck's old list with the date and model of car too. Oh well, I'm glad there's a list, I just wish he would update it at the beginning of each month....especially during the spring/summer.....

slightly off topic but Im just going ga-ga right now over your display picture... This almost makes me wish I held off on buying my awd project to have focused on a galant vr4.

I'll see if i can round up the time slip somewhere, i framed one of my fastest slips of 12.00 @112 but that was on a 16g. It's in the picture frame with a picture of me walking across the stage with my high school diploma, my two most proud moments :D

Ok! That's cool!

I went 12.1 @ 112 on my 14b setup in late '05.

Very nice pass with a nice 60ft. You should submit that info at the link below in order to really get the 14b list accurate. As it stands you would be #14, pretty nice! Thanks for sharing!

I never submitted it because I'm already on the list with a faster time from a different setup. I don't think you can have your name up there twice. They really should remove the nitrous and 3KGT times from that list as well, they're really irrelevant in terms of a stock turbo record.

There are guys with numbers on 16g and 14b lists with the same car so you should be able to list yours for sure and I think you should, but, that's me. 12.1 is not a slow pass on 14b.

Yeah, there's mixed feelings I think about the NOS use, I would say yes kick the 3000 GTs out because that really skews the list.....

That black one was so clean and so mean.
Here is another old vid I found on the server that I think was the 2000 DSM shootout finals, It was Dan (Pruven) Vs. Shep :hellyeah: (both only running 10's at the time)

My full name is Jose Pluguez. Yea maybe you can have better luck at getting it fixed than me. Leon was killing it there for a couple weeks, picking away at his time. He gave me alot advice after I hit my 12.1 on some weight reduction and how to get the car to dip into the 11's. But never got to try any of the stuff because I had to put the car back in storage since I was going to Korea.

Killer vids! The race with Saruwatari was after I saw him in '96, his car was still a "street car" at the time with no body kit and flip flop paint, just the yellow graphics. Yes, Dan's black car was definitely one of the meanest strett DSM's ever without a doubt.

I sent the guy that runs that list a message this morning, let's see what happens. I will do what I can for sure.

That's cool that Leon gave you some advice and things to try. I've had that over the years as well, but never from him. Our conversations never moved in that direction. Anytime I was running well, yes, sure there were some congratulations, but, Leon always seemed to want to remind me that he was "just out for a Sunday stroll", my words, basically, that he was just shaking down his freshly built RACE motor and that he had no intentions of making record passes, which I'm sure was true, in the beginning. As if he wasn't driving the car hard. He always "seemed" to speak in a condescending way toward me, but, it is the internet. I called BS then, I still call it now. Being where I am now, I KNOW HE WAS DRIVING THE HELL OUT OF THE CAR to run 11.64, or 11 anything for that matter. When I spoke of doing a FMIC, he said that he didn't think that would help at all and that it wasn't a mod that was really helping him or that the 14b would benefit from. As soon as I went to an FMIC, I dynoed 20 HP higher at the wheels at 16psi, than I was able to dyno at 21 psi with a sidemount.ROFL Trap speeds jumped from 113.1 right into the 115's. Everyone really thought highly of Leon in the DSM world and rightfully so with all those DSM Shoot out wins......so he either didn't know what the hell he was taliking about which I doubt, or was down right wanting to keep me down, I'll take the latter on that one.
Other mods that he claimed were not "helping" his 14b efforts, are mods that the fastest of all Joe B. has, and a few others, and the "newbies" that are going to come out next year will all have done I'm sure. I always gave Leon props, and sometimes we seemed to get into "heated" debates, but, if I had a rival in this whole thing, it's been him, and I'm sure alot of my motivation has stemmed from that. For such a little turbo, the 14b brings much to talk about!

So i remembered all of a sudden that i had all of my time slips from my white talon in a filing cabinet in the man cave (basement) and sorted through all of the slips. Sometimes I would put a note on the slip of what i was up against racing, what boost level and fuel, what current mods etc. I also found that my best 60' to date was a 1.650 and not the 1.67 that i remembered. It appears that with my old car i ran 12.64 with a 1.7* 60' with 93oct pump gas at 18psi and FULL WEIGHT! It was so easy with a engine that had decent compression. Well here are the slips the 12.422 was on the 14b obviously and may be submitted to any dsm times lists.:thumb: BTW: My car was running 12.4's back in April of 2004.

That's a real nice run! A timeslip pile.....Cool!

I started the "quest" for the 14b awd no nitrous record in 2005, back when next to no one cared about it haha. This is currently my 3rd attempt at building a car, the first one was parted to pay my way through school right after finishing it, based on butt dyno alone it felt faster then several dsms I've been in that run high 11's, never made it to the track, in fact I have yet to be in a car that "felt" as fast as that one did. I had a lot of money, time, sweat, and bloody knuckles into that car! But alas I was going to take it to the track and I went to give it one more test run and I blew an oil line, the next day I had a good portion of the parts pulled and going into shipping boxes. Who knows if it really was as fast as I thought it was, my best guess would have put it into the low 12's or high 11's with a good 60ft. No one will ever know.

The 2nd one never made it past stock configuration and was sold for a downpayment on a DD for the wife and I. It was the first dsm that I got to the track however, blew the wastegate arm off right at the launch and ran a mid 17 with 0 psi!

I currently have a grand total of 1200 into this dsm, many parts were donated or given at extreme deals. I had sold the last one a few months prior when a buddy called me and asked me if I wanted another dsm...catch was it was FREE! Of course it was a bare shell but a good friend (who happens to really know what he's doing:shhh:) built me a well built trans for next to nothing. I came up with a stock 6 bolt for extremely cheap, a 14b was donated for about half what you would expect to pay, a friend donated his garage to put it together in, lets just say there is a long list of people who either donated free parts or super deal parts to help me out. I can't thank them enough, it truly shows that the dsm community can give back.

I got to the track with the car this year and embarassingly missed 4th gear on the first pass. Details:
1.811 60ft
8.238 1/8 ET
86.20 1/8 mph
13.614 1/4 ET
93.37 1/4 mph
14psi

The second pass I blew an oil line from my gauge off and spun a rod bearing. This winter the car will get rebuilt, cleaned up, and a few more mods added. I no longer really have a goal of taking down the 14b awd no nitrous record, too many guys who aren't operating on tiny budgets are going for it now. I do plan on hitting 12's this coming year, hopefully getting down to below the mid 12's. The major goal is getting past the 11.64 mark as that was what I originally planned to do back in 2005 when I started on my first real awd 1g.

That's cool that Leon gave you some advice and things to try. I've had that over the years as well, but never from him.

Phil,

It has been 7+ years, you would think someone would get over it, but I guess not...

I have ALWAYS been 100% genuine with my advise and I went out of my way to help EVERYONE, who asked me for help!

Did I think that my FMIC wasn't really helping a 14b much at a drag strip? Yes I did! And I still think so! You might disagree with my opinion, but I find a mere suggestion that I had some ulterior motives is simply insulting...

Heres my story,

In 1999 I was 5 months into my AirForce enlistment and stationed in Biloxi Mississippi. At 19 with a wife and daughter, I was in desperate need of a reliable car. I had no credit to get a loan from my credit Union so I had to settle for the Lemon lots of Biloxi because they could finance me with no problem. After searching around for a few weeks I narrowed my choices down to two cars, A 92 MX3 and a 90 Eclipse 1.8, Needless to say I ended up taking the eclipse for an outrageous price of $3500! By the time I was done paying it off I think I paid $5000 total with financing. Oh to be young right? Anyhow I had that car for three years until I bought my wife another car, whic was an accord because my family was growing. At this time I bought my first PC and finally got some sweet dialup connection. Thats when I discovered DSMTALK.com. I had no Idea that there were better Eclipses, and that there were lasers and Talons. I knew I had to sell my car for something better. By that time Fast and the Furious was in theaters. I had my eclipse all riced out with scoops, mesh Grill, Neon Lights Etc, Etc. Naturally it was easy to sell just by its appearance. I took that money and found a Red 1990 Laser RS FWD in Phoenix AZ, (I was living in Tucson at the time) On Autotrader (No Craigslist back then). The test drive was the first time I had ever driven a turbo car, Man I was scared! I had never felt a rush like that, So $1800 got me the Laser with a busted Fuel filler hose, The dude failed to mention that part, so I had to go to NAPA, Buy a hose, Buy the tools and replace that in the parking lot, All while listening to my ex-wife bi*** about the piece of crap I just bought. On the drive home I hit 130MPH, I was so happy with my purchase. I loved that car, I did so many little things to try and make it look better. Here is the end result before I sold it.

http://www.cardomain.com/ride/421610 Theres pics of some of my other past cars too

I had to sell it for money to buy my first house. I regret it to this day. But change is good, I have since owned many DSMs from 1.8 to AWD GSX, TSI, Autos, Even did a Mighty Max Turbo Swap. anything with a 4G63 in it. My latest was purchased 2 weeks ago. A 90 Talon TSI AWD, Its sitting on stands right now waiting for a new clutch fork and Ball, My daily driver is a 90 Galant GS with Electronic suspension. Going to do a turbo upgrade to that one when I get some time. I guess the moral to the story is, Once you have a DSM and get your hands dirty with it your Hooked! :thumb:

Oh yea, I saw my first eclipse not too long ago drinving one day, It had been crashed and generally not taken care of! :toobad:
