Valvoline Engine Guarantee

Valvoline Engine Guarantee

Im thinking about signing up for this. Seems pretty legit and they dont seem to be hiding anything to do with whats covered and what isnt. Pretty straightforward rules, and with their 1k mile grace period I could just change the oil in my camry every 4k instead of 5, not a huge deal for a free engine if it ever blows.

I dont think ive ever really used valvoline oil before but now I might just start, apparently they think pretty highly of it.

I'm not really clear on what they are covering. Are they saying that they will cover your engine if it fails due to oil breakdown?

Taken from the FAQ.

WHAT PARTS AND COSTS ARE COVERED UNDER THE GUARANTEE?

The Limited Engine Guarantee covers most lubricated engine parts. These parts include pistons and rings, turbo bearings, cylinder linings or bores, oil pump, rods and rod bearings, valve stem and guides, cam shaft and bearings, crankshaft and bearings, valve lifters, rocker arms and pivots, distributor drive gear, and timing gears or sprockets. Valvoline will cover the cost of labor and replacement parts (or replacement engine if necessary) to restore your engine to operation. However, this Limited Engine Guarantee does not cover parts related to electrical, fuel, computer engine management system, cooling system, air intake system, exhaust system, timing chain, turbocharger or supercharger.

IF MY ENGINE FAILS, WILL I BE REQUIRED TO PROVE THAT IT WAS VALVOLINE MOTOR OIL THAT CAUSED THE FAILURE?

No. Unlike other so-called guarantees, we believe so strongly in the quality of our products that we will cover engine failures even if they are not caused by our product.

Seems like win if youre already buying oil anyway, might as well get some sort of coverage with it that is basically "free", cause youre gonna buy some sort of oil regardless.

It's a gimmick. Who's body lasts up to 300,000?
Very few. Specially up here.

I dunno, I see alot of cars of all makes with over 200k on them, youd be surprised what semi-regular washing and some rust repair every now and then will net you.

In NY, especially here in the snow belt they salt like crazy so dont give me that.

And you more than likely wont hit the 300k with most cars, but thats a good ceiling for the coverage considering most cars pop by then.

I rebuilt my engine about 10k ago and have only used valvoline. Think they will cover a rebuild?

Engine parts don't fail because of oil. They fail because of a lack of oil, which isn't the oil's fault. Send us a sample of oil from the failed engine, we'll run it through the lab and let you know.

Gimmick.

That's pretty crafty. They can cover all of our turbo bearings that aren't related to our turbocharger...

I've been happily using Valvoline oil for many years, but this marketing crap is for the birds.

but if any lubricated internal part fails while youre using valvoline, they say its covered.

Things still fail even with the correct amount of oil.

All that means is they wont buy you a new turbo, but they would rebuild the lubricated internals of that turbo, ie bearings.

Yeah, I'm sure that's what they are implying.

It's just worded poorly (and probably intentionally). It's specifically says they cover turbocharger bearings, but will NOT cover parts related to a turbocharger. It reads contradictorily regardless of what it really means.

I'd be interested to hear of someone's experience with putting this "engine guarantee" to work.

Yeah, I did notice the contradiction there and do agree it was probably intended.

Id love to hear of someone who has had to file a claim, but I think this is a new thing and their is an 18 month starting period you have to get through to be able to make a claim.

My vehicle that I had in iowa had over a half a million... Yes it was my dump truck but with all the dirt and sand and beating that thing took its a feat all on its own.
