Bumper Vents

I did a bit of searching and found some similar ideas. But it's not the idea that I am looking for. I am trying to find a place that sells little CF or fiberglass vents that can be placed on the front of a bumper to conduct air directly to my radiator once the AC condenser is removed. Attached is a picture of that black GSX that STM was building up. I am looking for something like that but a bit smaller height wise. The width looks perfect. I plan on adding one on each side of the Mitsu symbol and then adding a RRE/Carbontrix hood vent (once I get a CF hood) to maximize cooling capabilities no matter the setup or outside temp. Thought it would be nice since the local road courses are all in the middle of the desert.

Just an Idea. You could get something like this and mod it to work for you. I love the idea that you have maybe more of a cosmetic mod than a functional mod though.

It appears that the OP needs something to funnel/direct air to a particular spot plus make a nice finish on the outside. Those things have nothing to do with the intake of air at all, except the illusion of vents. I would make my own fiberglass duct myself. Research how to lay the fiberglass, and then make a styro mold of what the inside of said vent should look like. Cover in fiber and there ya go! One off piece made by you.

Search "nascar carbon" on ebay they have all types of carbon fiber brake ducts that would probably work for you.

Hey pal, I don't think anyone here is dumb enough to believe that AIR will travel through that, it definately will not. If the op wanted to have trim around the hole he could use a pre-made vent and/or fab up some ducting. Get an imagination dude.

I guess I should also add my theory behind this mod as to be more clear. With the vents and the addition of a carbonntrix hood vent, it will create a flow of air. This is will go through the radiator and lower the coolant temp. And then so it has a place to go after that, it will then be able to escape through the carbontrix hood vent to the atmosphere. With the flow of air, it will also help force the hot air created by the engine and turbocharger out the vent and thus creating better cooling efficiency as well as possibly lowering intake temperature. Reasoning for this is because of my FMIC setup. It is a 3" thick core and I'd rather temperature not being the thing that holds me from going all out. It may not make a HUGE difference in coolant temp or intake temp, but it is something that interests me and could very well work out quite well.

More of a trimmed cutout. I'm pretty sure the air getting through the vent will have no place to go but through the radiator. I may just have to do as Evil_speedracer suggested and lay it myself. That way I can also mold it into the bumper itself for a more seamless look.

Brake ducts are WAY too big for what I'm thinking of. Also checked, and it's all huge brake ducts and CF air filter stuff.

Really? I don't know anyone who wants to put holes in their fender to install a functional air vent via ricer stick-ons. If your idea would have anything to do with the FRONT of the car where the OP has taken a picture, then maybe I could use a little imagination.

Hey boost, what are the chances you can get it to route behind the headlight? I also wonder if it would be possible to build it so that it opens up as it gets close to the rad, and almost snug it up to the rad so that it can take advantage of the fan pulling air on the other side. I think it would be pretty cool to make it a dual intake to one opening at the rad side. Just another hole in the front on the other side of that one in the front, with some black mesh or something.

On another note, I plan to combat the underhood temps using a trick I learned from the RX7 guys - I plan to raise my hinges up a bit with washers, so the area near the cowl is raised just a bit. That turns the entire hood into a big reverse scoop. We all know that those cars get about the hottest ever under the hood, and it works really good for those guys. Most of them had a huge front mount blocking most of the rad too. I'm not sure how it will look yet, but I will make a thread once I get it all done.

I do plan on doing it to both sides of the mitsu symbol.

And I have also read somewhere that doing that is bad. Can't remember where but I remember it not working so well. I'll have to find a link for that.

This used to be a popular "free mod", but I've read on several forums that the pressure differential around the windshield makes this pointless.

The nascar carbon idea was a good one.... checked and for the most part all I could find were circular pieces. But makes me think there are vents to be found somewhere.

When I couldn't find what I was looking for I had some customer made...

And for those curious. This was just the solution I needed to bring my engine temps to right where they needed to be w/ or w/o A/C.

The parts used to make the ducts were scrap pieces from the 2Ga front bumper. That and some bonding product got me that. Have to give credit to my buddy Josh who did it ... it good in person.

2AM thread update!

Sorry Lando, I meant it as a "trimmed piece". As in I cut a hole for it, and it slips in and there is a lip around it to cover cutout imperfections.

Well I'm still looking for something that will work. So far I have only found circular ones available from C-West for the FD RX7's.

After many days of searching, I found a finished picture of STM's Black GSX car. I want that, but just a tiny bit less in the height department.

At this point, I'm just looking for places that sell carbon/frp stuff like this. If you can think of one, throw it out there and I'll do the searching. Thanks.

Exactly. Problems are: they want $100 a piece, I'd have to cut them at the back to make for more airflow, no one ever post how big they are, and no one I believe makes mirrored pairs of them.
