So I was wondering if a lot of you guys let your friends use your tools. I let my one friend borrow my cherry picker and engine stand last year and he is still not done with it.. and just recently I let another friend take just about all of my tools set so he could work on his car but didnt get them back yet and I have to pick them up when he should be the one returning them to my door. So now I have to wait till monday for my tools cause he went back to college and the tools are in his dads shop and they will open monday, plus right now I feel like working on my car and dont have any tools to work on it:mad::mad:..... So yeah Im sick of people asking me for stuff but I dont wanna be mean and say no, If they would return stuff right away I wouldnt mind but people dont and im sick of it:toobad: Its nice out and I really wanna work on the DSM:ohdamn:. So I was wondering if any of this has happened to any of you guys.

Can't say I had that problem. Nobody ever asked me to borrow tools. And usually when I borrow tools from my friend, I give them back as soon as I'm done with them.

Tell them to get their own damn tools! Point them in the direction of the closest Sears and tell them to buy what they need.

When I help my buddies work on cars I bring my own tools. Often I go through them before I leave to make sure I got everything back that was mine. This is where being organized helps BIG TIME. Still missing my 10mm wrench. :(

More than likely it's at the bottom of my toolbag. To keep my tools with me at all times I just throw them in a rugged work bag. Sucks for trying to find any tools. That's why I say it helps to be organized (unlike me). I'm trying to convince my wife to buy me a LARGE toolbox!! :sneaky:

damn, its people like that that ruin the concept of borrowing

if i borrow something from someone i make sure it gets back ASAP and in the same condish i got it in

usually if i have to borrow a tool i make sure the person has the time to help me so that they can get it back when we are done, but if someone borrows a tool i will hang out till they are done and make sure i get it back because I've had a lot of tools come up missing.

I let my closest friends borrow tools whenever they need them. I always get them back.

I give all my friends one chance when it comes to borrowing tools. If they break it and don't replace it, they lose the ability to borrow tools. It's as simple as that. If they don't return them in a timely manner, the same fate awaits them.

I totally agree with you:thumb:... To be honest I really dont like using other peoples tools just in case something gets broken or lost, and if I do use it I put it back right where it was and make sure nothing is broken or lost...

You think that's bad?

Try having a brother in law with a heated 2 car garage, Computer, with big ass speakers hooked up to them, and EVERY single tool you could need to work on a car. He hates being paid too. I feel so bad when I have to call him to borrow his garage, and he won't take my DAMN money. I spilled tranny fluid all over his garage once, and offered to mop his whole garage, and he wouldn't let me.

GAH.

Well Lofty thats really nice of him. At least your trying to be kind by cleaning up your own mess and trying to pay him for using his garage. Sometimes I go down my one friends garage, well its actuallly a busines, and he lets me use it as long as I clean up my own mess and put TOOLS away. Usually I buy food for them in return for the favor of using the garage;)

Is that 10mm in your DSM? Mine tends to eat them, and if it isn't full after that meal it eats 8mm sockets for dessert.

LOL ROFLROFL. It's true, I just parted out a 97 and sure enough, I found a ratchet with a 10mm stuck to it hidden in the engine bay.

you guys need to get your own garages ha. Im trying to move into a 50x32 with a 50x20 lift 10ft up and a 20ft cieling. if you look long enough you can find some cheap. Im in a 26x27 now thats pretty cheap.

There are some tools that I have purchased that have cost a lot of money and very seldom get used. I generally offer those tools to my friends that need them just so it feels like I didn't waste my money on buying it and it actually gets used.

well i lent a rear brake caliper compressor to my uncle and he gave it back, but when i went to use it i realized he destroyed it.

I think that everyone should have their own socket set and wrench set, pretty much basic tools that are always being used. But when it comes to some tool thats rare and not used too much then yes I wouldnt mind lettin someone use it as long as they return it;)

And this question hasn't answered itself for you?

Aren't you late for your next crash?

I normally dont let anyone use mine. A few shops I worked in, I'll let a few guys use them. I have been a Automotive Tech for 6 years now. Worked in many dealerships.

Borrowing tools is one thing alot of people hate. As do I.

My setup. With all the parts to lift my Yukon.

I wouldn't want anyone touching that nice set up you got there... and yes I hate asking people to borrow their tools and I dont like it when it gets asked to me either.

That's a nice setup you have. I love ratcheting box ends don't you? How much did that box run you?

$4,500 from my Matco Dealer. Had $2,000 in trade in's from my old box. The $2,500 is paid off. I own everything, box and tools.

Thanks. Once I get my garage finished in my new house I will move it from work to home. Right now I am not turning wrenches. Got promoted to Parts Manager at my shop.
