Yes the wh1c will work. See my above post about what you may need to do.

The 18cm^2 housing found on the big and small h1c turbos has individual volute size about the same as a bep bolton volute. You should have similar spool (or perhaps a little better) with mcuh better VE up top, because of virtually no back pressure issues.

Ok, got it. Well, if someone has a large (18+) housing they are willing to trade for a wastegated 12 cm^2 housing, PM me. I have no need for a small housing or an internal wastegate. However, this is a budget build, so if I can't find a bigger housing, I'm going to just stick with what I have and probably pick up that ebay outlet flange.
 
Just to cover my own @$$, key word is **should**. No one that I know has run an 18cm^2 housing with a true divided runner manifold. Turboford guys say the spool difference is 1000rpms with the proper manifold and this housing.
 
1000 rpm spool difference between what? undivided mani and true divided? I understand all this is purely theoretical, I'm just planning out what looks good on paper before I test it in the real world. So if I do get a large housing, and it spools really slow, its all your fault!ROFL
 
I have switched my plans from running a t3 .70ar exhaust housing to the divided t3 exhaust housing with a top mount twin scroll manifold on my hx35.

Man if you are going to run a top mount might as well put at least an HX40 on or bigger. It would seem a waste of such a nice manifold to run the "small" turbo on it.

BTW I just ordered almost all my stuff for my HX52 install. Running a DNP T4 44mm Manifold, JMF Drag intake, Power 75mm TB, Duel Walbro pumps on a fancy shiny duel pump hanger with -8an Feed line, BC 288 Cams, BC springs, BC stock size Valves, Ferrea Bronze/Mag. Valve guides. And of course the New HX52. I'm going to run around 25-35 PSI for a bit while I get the new MSII all dialed in. After that I'm planning on going to the limits of my current 1000cc injectors. I haven't decided yet but I'm thinking of just buying a set of 1600cc injectors for assurance for those 45+ PSI boost targets. I'm looking to start putting it all together in the next few weeks. :)

Edit: Oh yeah I figured that my Greddy Type S BOV would not be up to the duty so I also got a new Tial Q BOV for it.

Of course but by how much? I don't know and won't know until I actually do the mod. My guess is that it wouldn't change the lag as much as I'd like it to for the money I'd be spending on a quality, reliable manifold.

When I made my original comment that his 21cm2 housing would be laggy, I was under the impression his turbo had the twin volute design. But I still say a 21cm2 housing would be rediculous in terms of lag.

My goal is also 45psi and I'll be running the new blue max FIC 1650cc injectors.

TimG, what do you consider laggy? It has a different meaning to everybody. I wouldnt consider my wh1c to be laggy, but that could be because it spooled faster then the turbo it replaced.

Wicked95AWD, id like to know how a TS 18cm hx40 setup performs so keep us posted. I plan to make a divided t4 to divided t3 adaptor to use my JHRacing mani with my hx40 if the hx52 ends up too laggy.

BTW, i did some test fitting this weekend and thought i would share

If I had an hx40 I would do that, but I plan on stepping up to that when I go into the bottom end.

any more pics of the turbo/exhaust area? what type of header/manifold is that? Do you street drive with the half-radiator?
 
Well I went to bolt on the holset today for mock-up while I build my other motor and I guess I'm going to have to get a spacer. HX40 with the BEP bolt-on housing and my compressor cover is hitting the block and I don't even have it bolted on the manifold all the way. I figured it would hit the water pipe but wasn't really expecting it to hit the block. I've got the compressor cover loose so I can rotate it but there's just no where it will fit. Oh well the turbo was only $5 with the tag on it stating it had been reman. by holset :D

Ezz-e, we talked on the link forums in your thread. This is the wh1c correct? They come stock with a 12cm^2 turbine housing and the same comrpessor as the 8blade hx35 with the same turbine wheel, of course.

Hmm then what do I have? After getting the exhaust manifold tightened down all the way I was able get it on and rotate the compressor cover enough to clear the lower motor mount to fit a 90 degree coupler for my intercooler pipe. I still have pretty much no clearance on the cover to block but have a little more clearance for the intake pipe.

The ID tag that was on it is at school but when I googled the numbers on it, it came up as numbers for an HX40 and the BEP housing fits right on it. It came to me in the stock holset housing, that has no provisions for a wastegate. Its an 8 blade compressor, 12 blade turbine.
 
I don't know. EVERY!!! hx40 I've seen fits the 4g63 block fine with the stock exhaust manifold and bep bolton housing. The waterpipe has to be dented; not the the block :) For reference, my hx40 (wh1e, which is identical; like the wh1c is to the hx35) cover measures about 7 3/4" across from the block side to the radiator side, with the cover in a down firing position.

Pull the compressor cover and measure the compresor wheel. That cover is ginormic! compared to my wh1e and other hx40 turbos. I'm using the width of the stock manifold (from head to radiator side of the turbo flange) as a reference. The common hx40 cover is abotu 1" wider. That pic shows a cover that easily looks 2" larger. Does that compressor cover have a vband connection? Andy4g63 has an hx40 with a 60mm with an 8blade compressor inducer.
 
Well I did get it to fit and this is the only picture I took while it was there. Compressor wheel measures at 58mm with the cover measuring at 7 3/4. It clears the block at the upper part of the cover but it still hits the block where I have it there, just lower on the compressor cover.

How do you plan to route your water pump inlet? That thing looks like it is sitting way back on the block.

An easy thing to do to get it further out would be to mill the head side of the exhaust manifold with like a 5* more upward angle. That would put it out plenty far enough to probably run the stock water pipe if you wanted to.
