I have a 1997 gsx. I have searched and many say you can adjust base timing on a 97-99 and many say you can not. I have dsmlink and an adjustable timing light. I have checked base timing at the crank and on the camshaft sprockets itself. Base timing is at 3 degrees. No matter how I move the CAS, the base timing will not change. Am I doing this wrong or is this really not adjustable. I thought it was suppose to be at 5 degrees?
 
I hit it a little with the end of a rubber mallet and I could move it slightly down or up. Nothing drastic though. I put it all back the way it was and timing checks out at 3 degrees. So if it isnt adjustable then why is it at 3 degrees and not 5? Also so I dont start a new thread, I adjusted the TPS to .63 volts with the engine off. With the engine running it goes to .65 volts but still stays at 0% throttle. SHould I adjust it to .63 volts with the engine running or it it suppose to do that?
 
I don't think a .03v difference on the TPS is much. The TPS is not actually very useful on a manual trans DSM anyways. About the only thing useful for the TPS is rolling fuel cut (ECU cuts fuel on deceleration). If the rolling fuel cut works but only when you are all the way off the throttle, I consider the TPS adjusted correctly.
 
.65V is fine

Add two degrees of timing across the board via the timing sliders to compensate for the lower base timing if you want.

That what I was thinking of doing. Do you know if there is a reason that its at 3 degrees versus 5? Does it have anything to do with the 95 ecu being in a 97?

Just a manufacturer variance probably. Most vehicles will say the idle speed +-50; timing +-2 or 3 degrees.

Your timing could probably use a little work in link anyways since the 2g timing curve is pretty conservative. Watch the knock and add a little timing. Adding timing at turbo spoolup will make your spool rpm higher, so don't change it there much there.
 
Ok so now I got that all set. I was also told to log ISC position and make sure its around 30 by adjusting the biss screw. Is this correct? I got it as close to 30 as possible give or take one.
