I have searched and can find very little info on this. I need to know how to wire in the EVO Mass. I have looked on VFAQ and can't find anything? I did find 2g mas in a 1g,. Is the same wires used on the 2g the same as the wires used on the evo?. Also is the harness on the 2g same as the evo, or will I have to get a evo harness?


Once I figure this out I will do a write up for everyone else

i didnt think you could use the evo mas..i know you can use evo pistons...im curious just for the hell of it.. could you get it to work?
 
the evo harness and 2g harnesses are the same number of prongs but a different size. i have done some research and found that the evo flows about 20% more pull through than a 2g. its comparable to the pull through flow of a gm maf. as for the wiring, i believe you can wire it up to make it work, i just wish i could tell you how.
 
It's actually closer to 28%-30%. I'm taking my spare EVO MAF and installing it in my 1G (w/ 2G DSMLink). When I had the DSMLink installed in my EVO the airflow compensation settings needed to be around 28-30 percent higher.

Yes I will be using dsm link to use it, but how do i wire it in? Is there a way I can figure this out myself, maybe look at a wiring diagram of a evo and see what wire does what, and go from there? I know it can work, because people have done it. They have a nice thread about it in the dsm link forums, but I don't own dsm link yet and can't get in.

Once you get DSM Link you can get into their forum. There are some people using it that can help you. You'll need the connector for the EVO 8 MAF. In the mean time here are the MAF circuit diagrams for the EVO 8, and 2G, you may be able to figure it out from them. The A102 connector is for the 2G, and the B105 is for the EVO8. Please note that I uploaded them in the wrong order. The A102 should be with the 2G, and vice versa.

I'm a bit of a noob on how to read that, can someone explain it to me? I just need to figure out what color wire does what? I also need a pic of a evo plug and the wires to see what color they are. The mas I got didn't come with the plug and I need to track on of those down to. This thing is a bit bigger than I thought it would be,but it looks like it's going to work. I may not get dsm link now and go with safc for a while. Not sure how it will work with this evo mas. I would post pics if anyone is interested. Once I get this all figured out I will do a write and and give credit to those that help. Thanks a lot flinguist for the wiring diagrams they will help out a lot after I can read them. Wish I had already gone through electronics at UTI. Anyway I will stay on this, but I don't think It will be done anytime soon as the info I need is hard to find unless I was on dsmlink forums which I'm not

Here is my first attempt at a pic so here it goes. This is what I plan to replace my stock air intake with. It's a BIG improvement. Now before you say thats a intake tube setup for blow through, it is, but I will get it to work, for 50 bucks it's worth it. I will drill a whole in it,but I hate to do that,but it has to be done. Also I really need a evo mas plug. Really bad if you know of any let me know. I also need someones help in figuring how to wire it in. Some will ask why didn't you go with a 2g? And my answer is simple. I This setup coasted me 125. Tell me where else I can find a air filter,evo mas, and intake for that? I will have maybe 150-170 in it once I get the plug and it wired in. Also I don't intend to install it until I get dsm link or SAFC (Haven't decided yet new to tuning.know the basics though)to compansate for the much larger mas.

PS If I didn't already say it I need help bad on how to wire this.

Not to mention that its a smaller maf (physical size) and flows 28-30% more... I've got the same setup ;)
 
Since you have the setup ca you please tell me how to wire it up. I think I may have found a plug, not sure. So now all I need it the wiring of it, After that will be getting it to work LOL, but it will be worth it, also what is the best way to add a recirculating tube to that intake pipe, I want it to last.

The plug you need is used in 3g Eclipse and some Monteros. I have the plug but no maf yet.
 
I have also been researching this mod. I have found that the 3g eclipse GTS package (((has to be GTS, not just GT))) and I think it's 2000+ Montero's (((might be 2001+))) share the same mas and wiring as the Evo. Being there aren't too many Evo's in scrap yards, you might start looking there for the MAS and harness. I found some for $50 in various yards. Now if I can just get the money. :(

Do these cars have the same MAS as the evo as well?
 
I'm going to say No, but only because of 1 reason. My sister works at our local Mitsu dealership. Natually I get parts cheaper, so I thought about doing the VIII maf as well, until we looked up part numbers. The part numbers I've compared (03 galant vs. 03 EVO VIII) where different, so I ASSume that the air meters are not the same. Again I ASSume this...
 
Ok next question is whats the difference between the evo8 and evo9 MAS?

The evo maf doesn't flow 20% more air. It METERS 20% more air. This means that you don't overrun the evo maf at 20$ more airflow than a 2g maf. As I see it, the 2g maf has a larger opening than the evo maf. You don't buy a maf upgrade because it flows more air, but because your current maf can't read the airflow you want to run. If you don't want a maf restriction blowthrough or speed density is the only option and that has been proven to yield only a 5ish% increase in power. For a 500whp car, that is alot: 25whp. But for a 300whp car, switching to a 2g maf is because of pathetic number at which the 1g maf overruns.
 
Well I can get a evo maf for the same amount as a 2g so I figured Id look into it!I know my 1g stocky is really bad and such from what I hear.
 
It's "really bad and such" because of how much air it can meter; not how much it flows.

If you don't have an injector upgrade with a fuel pump upgrade, or at least an adjustable fuel pressure regulator and a fuel pump upgrade and for both a means to control the higher fuel flow, then you will see no power gains. If you do not have either fuel upgrade, you WILL see power gains if you properly use tuning device that can dial in the different hertz curve. But if you gain power, this is from the leaning out and adding timing that the tuning equipment lets you do, not from the maf "flowing more air".

I don't see any mods in your profile. You you even have a fuel pump upgrade? Or a means to tune this maf?

I can get a 2g maf of of ebay for $50? I don't see the evo maf that cheap, ever. Is there an evo at a local boneyard?

I've seen Evo MAS's on eBay in that price range. I really think there aren't enough guys looking for them to drive the price up.

The 3G MAS's are visually identical from the outside, however the section of the honeycomb is much smaller than an Evo MAS when compared side-by-side. I'll post some pics later so you can see what I'm talking about.
 
There's a way to modify the 3g mas to mimic the evo8 mas. It's on the dsmlink forums. . . Please post a pic.

I havn't seen any evo8 style mas for sale that cheap, but I looked for them about a year ago. I did see the evo3 style mas sell for the same price as the 2g mas, but they are the same thing. . . I will try again. . . The evo8 style mas can accurately meter air as high as a gm maf, around 60lb/min. I suppose a hacked one could meter as much as an hx40 pro could put out.
 
No I actually dont have any mods yet at all,these are going to be my first mods.I am getting some evo injectors and the same guy selling me them has a MAS for sale as well.Before I install them I am going to buy a SAFC.And as far as the fuel pump I will buy one of those as well just not sure what one I will need,the 255 or 190?
