Last year at BOTI, my 1G stock crushed BOV wasn't holding boost above 23lbs. So to get it to hold more boost I re-crushed crush bov more. It held 27-28. It's been holding boost well, BUT recently I checked my turbo and she has more shaft play in her than a NY call girl!!!OMG
I recently installed a full exhaust and now I can hear whats going on. The turbo surges. The BOV got crushed so much that the boost is back washing out the compressor housing. My BB 3065 dosent like it. Yesterday I wiggled the shaft and it made clunking noises WTF = not good

I've been working towards hitting 500awhp on pump gas. I was already planning on upgrading my exhaust manifold, and getting a bigger o2 housing this year. Now that I have to include a replacement turbo, it changes alot of options. I did some math and here what I came up with

FP Race Mani + 3065 CHRA + HTA Comp Cover + FP 3" recirculated o2 housing = 23hun
FP Race Mani + DSM FP88HTA + FP 3" recirculated o2 housing = 27hun
HKS T4 Mani + Divided T4 DBB 35R or 37R + Custom recirculated o2 housing = 26hun

After seeing the cost it looks like I'm heading towards option 3.
I've already got a HKS T4 mani lined up, and next is to order a turbo once I decide which one. 500awhp on pump gas92, and 650awhp on race gas would be Ideal. OH and a proper BOV so that I don't kill this next turbo. Probably Tial

Going from bolt-on mitsu, to T4 is a big step (from what I hear). Should be fun:sneaky:

Damn Steve! I haven't talked to you in so long! We have to meet up sometime!

+1 on the T4 swap. I would personally buy the FP88HTA, but with the .84 divided T4 turbine housing they offer for it. 88lbs/min... :sneaky:

Note:
...looks like I might have to add PTT Clutch packs to the list.

I leaned out my A/F ratio to get better/quicker spool. Then yesterday after the streets dried up, I went out to make some runs. The air was a cool 50'. I set my Pre-boost A/F ratio to about 12.5 (previously 11.1) and now the car hits harder than it EVER has on 23-24lbs! Off boost response is much better. And once boost starts to climb A/F rato's go to 11.5-11.6 instead of my usual consevative 11.1-11.2 The changes gave me a noticeable difference in power for sure. I'm using Cenex 94oct gas, and the motor likes it alot. The motor hasnt ever been running this strong on the street... probably 450awhp, maybe 460.

On my way home a EVO9 came up beside me, and tried to take off ....I dropped to 3rd, and blew his doors off in about 2 second! LOL It was ridiculous! ....Then I hit 4th and the clutch slipped.:| I turned on my exit and did a couple more WOT test; yeap.... it's slipping.

I noticed that my clutch engagement is high at the top of the pedal throw. Maybe it just needs some adjustment? The clutch might not be fully engaged. It seems like I've heard that there is a way to adjust a 1G clutch pedal. I'll look for that right now

As far as Turbo duty goes.....
I need a big turbo to blow cool boost for pump gas (500awhp on pump92), and 600-650awhp on race gas (700awhp max!). I don't want to go over kill because boost response in between shifts will suck, and I'm not a fan of NoLiftToShift)

Since my Ball Bearing turbo went out so quickly, I'm very tempted to try a journal bearing T61 or T67. The price difference between JB & BB is pretty good too. I know for sure that I want a divided T4 turbine housing. I wonder if a divided T4 journal bearing turbo, would spool as fast as a non-divided T4 ball bearing turbo? I don't care about off throttle boost response so much, but I don't want to have to wait for boost to build up in between shifts. That would suck. (right now I rev to 7500 max)

Here's what I'm looking at.

T4/T61 Singlescroll Turbocharger .84 AR turbine housing (590-600whp) ~$820.
Killer price, but a little too small.

T4/T67 Twinscroll Turbocharger T04Z .84 AR turbine housing (700+whp) ~$1025.
Pretty good fit for my needs. And price is good.

T4/T67 Twinscroll Turbocharger T04Z AKA GT37R DBB (700+whp) ~$1385.
The best DBB price by far, and size seems ideal for my needs.

GT4088 Twinscroll Turbocharger 1.19 AR turbine housing (700+whp) ~$902.
Great price, but I fear there might be turbo lag in between shifts if I didnt NLTS.

GT4088R Twinscroll Turbocharger .85 AR turbine housing (700+whp) ~$1804.
Would be a good choice, but it's a little pricey

The divided T4/T67 DBB Turbo seems like a good deal, and the size is right for my needs. It's not the cheapest, but the price is very good compared to other divided T4 DBB turbos. It also has the bigger/stronger and more durable TO4Z CHRA, that (hopefully) would last longer.

But the divided T4/T67 journal bearing turbo for $360 cheaper is pretty tempting. Especially considering it's more durable than a ball bearing turbo, and rebuildable too. I wish I knew some body with this set-up to see how it performs.

I think one of these are going to be ordered up real soon.
What do you think? ...are there any other choices that I'm over looking? I'm not really into the Holset or BorgWarner turbo scene.

I'm sooo torn between the T4/T67, and the T4 GT40R.:coy:

People are reporting that the GT40R is more responsive and streetable, but the T67 gives a little more top end power. If both make over 700whp, then I rather have better boost response, than 40-50whp more top end.

Previously I thought a new GT4088R was 1800-1900 bucks (out of my price range), but I found some at $1600 (do-able)
The DBB T67 is at a great price $1385 ... but it's only $215 cheaper than the GT40R. I think I might have to bight the bullet and get a GT40R after all.

I just wish I'd hurry up and decide already:rolleyes:. Things would be alot easier without a budget:toobad:

You can say that again. My wife keeps tabs on the dsm budget lately. I used to be able to use the line "When I reach what you have into your BMW then I will stop." Sadly im close now.

Oh yeah I've been reading all his stuff, plus anything I can find on DSMtalk, and EVOm too.
The 4088R is def making me itch right now.

HaH the 8pt is still sitting around.
I need to get seats before it can be built (more $$).
I really didnt want to have to replace a turbo this year, but since it's going out I figure I need to go ahead and upgrade for the future.

Sorry to jump in but where or who are you guys getting cages from? I am wondering if I will need one this year or not.

What about a new motor? You were SOOOO afraid of blowing that motor up last year and now you want to go to a much bigger turbo? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHA!! There are lots of guys using stock seats with cages. Just have Andre weld the thing in already!

You do realize what kind of competition is going to be at BOTI Seattle this year right? Let me spell it out:

Paul's 1100awhp 45R Evo
Jake's (evil_eagle) 8-sec 42R 1G
Lucas' 10-sec stock turbo Evo
Jeff Bush's new 42R 1G
JohnnyTSi's 680awhp T-67 1G
My (hopefully) 11-sec 1G

That isn't even everyone that will be there. You better up your game if you want a repeat win from last year! But, there will be another DSM/Evo vs. DSM/Evo final! 'Nuff said!!

Hahaha I remember when you beat my ass that one night you raced the black 1GB in Kent.

That thing sounded awsome.
Keep her going. Do what your budget will allow.

And I hope to play again soon:)

*EDIT*
BOTI is dimming for me this rear.
I may have to take this season off again and just have a really good chunk of time to get her right.

More importantly I will still be attending BOTI 2008
and will be very fun seeing you guys race in the finals holding it down for all the PNW DSMers!

BOTI 2008 is going to be better than 2007 for sure!

Paul's going to need some seat time in that 9sec evo of his ROFLROFL
I wana see Lucas's sand talon there.

NewTurboTuner, talk to Paul he's been through all those turbos, I think he's still ifarted2 on evom, or pm him on POS

Engine smingine I don't want to hear any of that. It's holding up just fine:D
I want 500awhp on pump gas 92. The plan was to build a motor this year, but Due to pre mature turbo slop, I was forced to upgrade next years turbo now, and build this years motor later.... following?

It's a 10sec car IF I can hook up. I deff need the roll bar at the track this year.

My car is street, so out of that list Lucas, Jeff, and Johnny. Lucas and johnny will have to cage if they already havent (me too).
And we all know its not JUST about the pwr;)

So I made my choice.
I'm going for the GT4088R with Divided T4 housing @ .85 A/R.
It should work nicely with the HKS manifold. I'm hoping for about 500awhp on Pump gas92 with 24-25psi.

I know there are people who want to know more about the performance of the GT4088R ...Especially about how it performs on a stock-ish 2.0, like spool, and streetability. When I get it all set-up and tuned, I'll do a little write-up on it

Damn a parts list can grow fast!

Most of all the turbo stuff will be here by next week YHEAHY!!!:D
....Then it's time to start building the exhaust system :)

The Horse Power is going to be the same this year (450-500awhp), but this time no race gas ....just Pump92;)

The engine bay is going to look alot better this year too.
I've got a long ways to go, but I already started relocating some of the engine wires. Here's a before and after of the wires that go across the intake manifold. The picture dosent show such a big difference, but when you see it in person its nice. Every little bit counts

Next I'll relocate some of the stuff near the top of the fire wall... I'll move it down lower where it can't be seen much.

Where is S&W Race Cars?

I'd like to get a upgrade Kit for my 8-pt.

I have a Competition Engendering weld in 8-pt. I thought I saw a upgrade kit (8pt to 10pt) from Competition Enginering, but now I can't find it. My Car is stripped and ready for the install, but I was hoping to do the whole 10-pt from the get go.
