Alright, so I was tinkering around under the hood today and was looking for a place to relocate the fuse box. At first, I was trying to fit it where the battery/emissions canister thing used to be, but I couldn't really get it to fit good there. Anyways, I ended up finding a decent spot where the smic used to be. It fits good and everything, my only concern is the location itself. Will it be prone to getting soaked if it rains, etc? I was trying to find a relocation spot with minimal wire modification. I'm not scared to lengthen wires or anything, just didn't feel like doing that, ha. Where it is, I'll only need to lengthen the wires that go to the battery and maybe one connector. Let me know what you guys think or what I could do to prevent water from getting at it. Only other problem with this spot is this was where I was going to relocate the coolant reservoir.

I used the bracket from the fuse box's original location and it lined up perfectly with the tapped holes from the stock airbox (I think).

Here's a view from the front of the car and from underneath, showing the exposed wires and where I think the water will penetrate.

Yes it will be prone to getting wet. Mine would always get wet, and then i started wrapping it with a heavy-duty pastic bag. No more horn going off by itself or fans kicking on:D

LOL That's what I was worried about. Thanks for the input, I thought about wrapping it somehow or even making a box type thing for it to be enclosed in.

That has got to one of the worst places you could put your fusebox. Water + exposed electrical connectors == shorts.

People have done it im one of them. It doesnt hurt a thing as long as its covered up and secure:thumb:

who cares if he hangs it from a piece of rope from the front bumper, as long as he has it covered up and waterproofed really well it wont hurt a thing. it's all a matter of preferance.

you might consider building an aluminum box to surround the fuse box. with a removable lid to get to the fuses. you could also caulk up the inside edge of the lid and all of the exposed edges with black weatherstripping or clear silicone. i think it looks like a pretty good setup, so long as you can keep it protected from the elements.:thumb:

Yeah, I was thinking something like an aluminum box, but I kind of like your caulk idea. I think I will try the caulk/silicone method first, because I believe it will keep out water really well. But if it doesn't, I'll try make a box or something. BTW, water isn't that big of a concern for me, this car is not my dd, only something fun on nice days or the weekend. This waterproofing is just in case or just to be sure type of thing :thumb:

That's exactly where mine is, except I didn't use the bracket and turned the box sideways and bolted it to the outside edge of the unibody rail. Your way looks a little cleaner, nice job :thumb:

make sure though, if you do use something to waterproof it, dont use regular caulking. you need to use either black weatherstrip caulk or 100% clear silicone. that white caulking crap wont work for anytime. loses its elasticity very quickly. but i really like your mounting area, i think i might do the same thing. great creativity:thumb:
