Well I wanted to make a thread to show each step of the way as I do my automatic to manual swap on my 1996 Eclipse GSX. I will probably post new info and pictures up everyday of things I did on the car, problems I had, etc. I hope some people will watch my progress and comment on it.
Day 1-
The first thing I did is make up a parts list of everything I will need to get for the swap.
2g AWD 5-speed transmission PURCHASED
Clutch Disc and Pressure Plate PURCHASED
OEM throw out bearing PURCHASED
2g 5-speed T-Case PURCHASED
2g 5-speed Rear Differntial (LSD)
2g Clutch Pedal Assembly PURCHASED
2g Brake Pedal Assembly PURCHASED
2g Shifter Base
2g Shifter Cables
2g Clutch Master Cylinder PURCHASED
2g Clutch Reservoir with firewall bracket
2g Clutch Line PURCHASED
2g Clutch slave cylinder PURCHASED
2g Shift boot
More things will probably get added to the list as I go along. I put purchased next to the things I already have. I think it is pretty cool that I located just about everything I needed to do this swap in about 24 hours except the rear differential.
Anyways, I am buying a trans that has a broken shift fork so I am taking that to the repair shop to get fixed. I also got the transfer case with the transmission so they are matching years (both 97).
I got the slowboyracing SS braided clutch line from master to slave.
I bought the clutch and brake pedals off of ebay for 40 dollars.
I think I am going to go with extreme psi's OEM shift cables so I have new stuff to work with.
Anyways, I started off with the easy stuff- Removing all of my auto stuff in the interior such as the shifter assembly, shift cable, brake pedal lock cable, ignition lock cable, and brake pedal assembly. I also got the TCU out with a little bit of work, it is a very tight area to work in
Here's some pictures of the car so far:
TCU Removed and brake pedal assembly about to come out
Auto shifter removed
Interior shot of the car
TCU was EPROM!! mmm...programmable shift points
Anyways, just thought I would make this thread to keep you guys up to date on my progress as I go along if anyone is interested. And also, hopefully this thread will also serve to help me get any questions answered that I might need throughout the swap. Wish me luck
