Im not new to automotive forums (I'm one of the original members of nastyz28.com), and Im sure as heck not new to wrenching on cars. I've noticed there's a few good mods on this board, and a few real crappy ones who like to lock everyones threads for nothing. I expect this one to get locked.
I know I dont frequent this board often, but I also dont have many problems with my GST that I cant find in the searches. In fact I've torn the engine practically all the way down with just searching this board. However, there are times, like right now where it would sure be nice to be able to post in the regular tech forum to get more exposure to my question than here. But oh well. I just wanted to post my opinion and small frustration with this policy. I guess I dont understand what the original purpose of the policy was, maybe you had lots of idiots posting stupid stuff, I dont know.
Just wanted to rant my frustration.
Thanks! :D

You only have two posts (this one included) If you can't find what your searching for post a thread. They created the points system to keep people from just making a name and logging in to our advanced forums and creating misconception among other things. If you want to post in other forums. Become a valuable member of this board and you will be awarded so. But for now keep your questions to the newbie forum. We are willing to help.

The newbie forum gets the most attention. While you may be experienced with working on automobiles, you're obviously not experienced wrenching on DSM's, hence the lock on the tech forums. Post up your question and I'm sure it will get answered quickly.

How many posts do you need before you can post in the rest of the forum?

Edit:
"Once you have been a member for 30 days, you've posted a total of 50 posts in the Newbie forum/Problem Diagnosis forum/Tech Articles section, you will be automatically moved from New Member status to Proven Member status. This is where you receive your wings. By this, we mean that you should have had enough time and participation under your belt to know the rules and you've proven yourself as a member. You'll now be able to post in all of the public forums and participate in all public areas of the site, including the Classifieds"

See you in a month I guess.

Yep, everyone's answering my questions quite well here. I've never tried here because I figured I'd be better off finding the best answer by my self searching than waiting for someone to reply to a post in the newb section. Guess I was an idiot. LOL
Anywho. Thanks!

http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/new...turbo-estate-sale-like-know-exactly-what.html

There's one.
The other is, I noticed today after an 800 mile trip over the last week, that I now have a pretty loud tick at idle. I've searched and found that its most likely a lifter, because its definitely coming from under the valve cover. At first I thought it was injectors going bad, so I individually unplugged each injector and it wasnt any of them, so Im also guessing its a lifter. I use 10W30 fully synthetic Mobil 1 oil. I doubt its a rod knock or a bad wrist pin because this engine only has 40,000 miles on it. I have ran it up to redline a few times, so maybe thats a little hard on the lifters, I dont know.

Ok it most likely sounds like your first article has been answered. As for your second question. Pull the valve cover off and run the motor. You should be able to grab the throttle and rev it up a little bit. You should be able to determine if it is a lifter. Otherwise you should be able to tell if its in the bottom end.

Yea dude, don't get all pissed because of that. The newbie forum gets the most attention and half the people that post here aren't even newbies. 44 more posts and you'll be a Proven member. And yea the turbo does look like a T28.

actually, im fairly confident if you make 50 senseless posts, the mods will boot you, so be careful with what you post. Just go about life normally and post when you have a question or something to say. Not being able to post in the tech forums for a month of your life isn't going to kill you, its the internet, you managed without it for much longer than that before, you can last a little longer,...

its not all its cracked up to be anyways, I don't post often in there anyways, I mostly just read what others have to say and crack jokes when i see fit, LOL

The post have to contribute in some way, they just cant be senseless.

I've got over 50 posts and im still in the new member status

I guess this means im sensless:p

I think it's funny reading one of these every other week. Someone getting mad at the forum for pretty much being here for them, giving out tons of great valuable information for free. Information they might have to pay for in other situations.

I think its funny that the mods are the ones I see most commonly breaking rule #1 of posting....

Thanks for blessing me with your knowledge! I am a member of many forums, and it is not the moderators and rules that make the forum good, its the members that share their knowledge and make the site valuable.

the 50 post thing is a good idea and weeds out people trying to cause trouble. But it will also deter a good percentage of "lurkers" from being much more then that..

i'm pretty sure the moderators and wisemen frequently visit and reply to the newbie threads, as long as its not how to adjust your mirrors or move your seat back LOL

like stated before, showing a well rounded knowledge of dsm's will get you to the proven status. I had over 70 posts before I was bumped up, and that was over 6 months. The reason for that was not all of my posts were benificial and didnt show that I knew what I was talking about. After showing that I knew my stuff and had been helping people out, I was bumped up. Just learn the cars, and properly answer peoples questions and you are golden :D

Dude give me the lip off of your car NOW...I can't find a decent lip ANYWHERE...or anyone who makes em:sosad:

Understood - & yes IDIOTS are why we have pretty much ALL the rules here - Hey I;m banned from DSMTALK for life for posting the word ECLIT... & Blackwhoever over there can STILL kiss my ASS - I'm DAMNED sure that you can get any answer you need WITHOUT posting in the Tech Forum, & you know that as well as anybody with any competence on these Boards.

haha how in the hell did you get banned exactly!?

They get on my ass about grammar all the time just because I dont capitalize shit sometimes

The newbie forums do get most of the attention. I am a proven member and still post here alot unless my question is very technical.

But while we are complaining, I am approaching 200 posts and can't even get a single reputation point. What does a brother got to do? And don't tell me to answer questions and be helpful, b/c I do both. It's a conspiracy I tell you:shhh:

Im not new to automotive forums (I'm one of the original members of nastyz28.com)
Then you, above most posters here, should well-realize why we had to implement a Newbie section, and make new members work just the slightest bit in order to be allowed to sit at the Grownups Table for our little feast here.
and Im sure as heck not new to wrenching on cars.
Read the posts on this site. You're one of about a hundred. Go ahead, read the one about the dry clutch reservoir. The multiple threads asking what a goddamned idiot light means. Why turn signals don't work. Overheating. Heater issues. On and on and on.
DSMs are cheap. They always have been. They're getting cheaper. We have bone-headed kids who've never pulled a dipstick asking how to turn 14,000 rpm and get a thousand horsepower while driving a 420A.
I've noticed there's a few good mods on this board, and a few real crappy ones who like to lock everyones threads for nothing.
You'll probably find the ones you call "good" are Moderators who are on a couple of times a week. Yes, I lock a lot of threads. I also post kind of a lot.
I expect this one to get locked.
No, but it was moved to a less-inappropriate forum. It probably should have started in the Site Feedback forum, but we don't really expect a lot from Newbies. Which is why we try to keep a fence around you until you have some kind of grasp on what the general intent and direction of this site is.
I know I dont frequent this board often
So, you're another non-contributor happy to vampire on by and vulture free answers to questions, but you don't give shit-all back to us? And you're complaining?
but I also dont have many problems with my GST that I cant find in the searches. In fact I've torn the engine practically all the way down with just searching this board.
Good on you! Now, post us an illustrated Tech Article on how to carry out some of those procedures and give back to the DSM world.
However, there are times, like right now where it would sure be nice to be able to post in the regular tech forum to get more exposure to my question than here.
I'm always flummoxed by this thought that one or another forum gets more exposure than another. The people who can provide you any help don't come on here and look in a specific forum. We log on, we hit the "New Posts" button, and we start reading titles. When we see something we might be able to help with -if the poster used a thread title that had any goddamned meaning- we stop in and see if there's something to add.
But oh well.
But oh well, you'll continue to remain a worthless, sucking, free-grabbing, non-contributing little bi*** who's more than happy to take and take and take and never give us anything for it.
I just wanted to post my opinion and small frustration with this policy.
And now you know mine about posters like you.
I guess I dont understand what the original purpose of the policy was, maybe you had lots of idiots posting stupid stuff,
Yeah. Just maybe we did.
I dont know.
That's pretty damned obvious.
Just wanted to rant my frustration.
And so did I.

Merry effing Christmas to you, and the legion of posters just like you.
I can't begin to express how exceedingly welcome you are.
