Just thought to myself, how many of you drive around with the CEL illuminated?

EDIT: Well to clear up the question, like for instance, you have no catalytic converter and you know your rear o2 sensor is throwing the code, or your disconnected your EGR and its throwing a code.

It is sort of a vague question. Do you mean that once a CEL comes on, you shut off the car and call a tow? Or do you mean right now, are you driving with a CEL on?

I personally do not have a CEL and have not had one for nearly a year now (it was the knock sensor).

I have two cars with the cel, one bad cat previous owner put a ebay cat on and well I don't care doesn't hurt, and my daily turns on and off randomly because of a misfire which isn't a big deal cause it drives normally.

Can't think of why anyone would, unless they can't figure out what's wrong with the car or can't afford to fix it, or if a mod causes it to light up.

I drove my 2g around for 2 years with the cel light on. ha But in my 1g no cels. Got most stuff shut down with my dsmlink

I do, but only because my Palm is having a little "custom" work done (;)) and I can't read the code to get it fixed. I don't prefer to, though. It's kind of annoying.

i have been driving with cel on for about 4 months. my problems were EVAP and o2 sensors, i took care of the EVAP and i just recently bought 2 new sensors so my cel should be off tomorrow. i dont think its a huge deal to drive with the cel on as long as you know why its on and its not something that will damage your engine horribly.

Too lazy to check every second i'm NOT on the gas, and i know what it is. Been that way for a few months.

I thought CELs were standard on turbo cars.

Anyways, i thought so too. :D

DSMLink won't throw CEL's for emissions, so I always check my DTC's to see there's anything seriously wrong. I'm not going to drive if it's something important.

i drive with mine on, but i know what they are and just get it checked for free every week to make sure theres nutting new or anything thats hurting the engine...

annoying = yeah sure
big deal = depends on what the CEL is for

I'm really surprised guys.. There's actually alot of people who drive around with their CEL on... but then again... most of it is emissions crap... still that little light is so annoying! Anyone who gets into your car is like, "dude, your CEL is on" and then you have to go explaining to them its, this or its that..

i have never cranked my car up with it not on. i have deleated so much stuff that i dont think there is a way to make it go off. no egr, no evap, no cat, no ac, no ps

Mine is on for after cat O2 sensor

shapped it off on some ice the other day, to cold to fix right now LOL

I don't usually drive with it on, it's SO annoying

I do, my fuel pressure solenoid is bad... it's not even hooked up anymroe, but it still throws the code and I dont care enough to replace it.

i guess it depends if you have OBD1 or OBD2. 1gen cars should not have them on because it is usually an unplugged sensor or bad sensor that is vital.
2gens have CEL that go off for everything like CAT codes and such. i drive a 1g so i would not drive with a CEL

Bulb "fell out" of my Eclipse, truck don't have one, and her car(Escort) comes on ocasionally -P0440-EVAP system small leak-I never remember to shut it off when I drive it and put gas in. Damn OBD II. At least I have acess to a Modis to clear it.

Wow almost 50% of the people that voted said yet...you are all retarded that is all I have to say.

It seems like people think a cel is the worst thing ever. All it is, is a light to tell you a sensor is out of range or something that is possibly doing damage to your catalytic converter. If its blinking, yea thats bad.

My cel has been on for a few months because of some evap crap. I got sick of clearing the dtc so it stays on. Someday ill fix it but I'm in no rush. No harm no foul!

Probably because the majority of people that roll into my shop with a CEL on prior, say, "don't worry about it, it's just a rear o2 or emissions crap" and I scan anyways because I am nosey LOL and there are actually 4 codes now with only 1 of them relating to what they thought. If your CEL is blinking, that is a very bad sign but regardless you should either fix or keep tabs on what is setting the light off. No harm no foul? I had a car come in one day with the same thing, knew the CEL was on and "knew" what it was for. Come to find out his knock sensor wire got chewed off. Now had it been a DSM the car probably would have either gone into limp mode or you would have just blown your crap up because it would have never detected knock.
