I hate my custom exhaust.

The 14b would usually max out right around or over 300hp to the wheels for the average user. Anything more than that is going to take a lot of mods and suddenly the 14b becomes the major bottleneck.
 
Ehhh quit complaining. I know this guy who took his new EVOIX to an exhaust shop. They hacked off the exhaust and replaced it with a Ford Ranger exhaust. I've never heard anything worse. It kills me so much about what he has and is going to do I'm debating on whether or not start a thread on it.

The 14b compressor map rolls out to 0.23 m^3/sec at it's farthest point. 1m^3 = 35.3ft^3. So we see approximately 487cfm on the compressor map. This yields AROUND 33lbs/min (1 atm and around 20* celcius). We all know that 33lbs/min comes to approximately 350 crank hp. This is very close to 300whp. Of course, the 6cm^2 turbine housing is much too restrictive to accomplish this w/ any sort of ease. A clip or a 7cm^2 housing would allow one to see the maximum flow the 14b compressor can yield.

27 psi is way above that flow by a normal rev limit even w/ stock manifolds, cams, ports, valves, and stroke.

i ran a closed waste gate on my car it only hit 23psi. i've never seen a 14b hit 27psi, and i know alot of people in my town that push there car to the limit. they just cap off there wastegate actuator and only get about 22-24psi.

27psi is way out of efficency anyway. your probably making the same power at 20psi. i hope you have an enormous front mount.

Don't get me wrong, I love the tone, but there's a point midway between idle and cruising rpm while accelerating ( right around 3k RPM ) and it's loud and annoying, i know this from driving next to my car and driving with teh hatch part open because i had something too big in teh trunk :p. I've always apreciated all the grand nationals i've worked on. Super quiet and tons of power at the same time, lovely it is :) That's also why i want to route my waste gate back into teh down pipe. i just wanna hear the engine whine and the turbo whistle :)

I don't really know if you're calling BS here or not, but I can promise you I have run 27 psi. I would have no reason to lie. The only other possibility is that my boost guage isn't accurate. I ran 23 psi daily before my tensioner went out.

I have stock cams and a stock intercooler as well.

It's not that I'm calliing what you posted BS or anything of the sort. . . I just cannot believe you. I know what the 14b can do. That is not it. BUT! I'm certainly not always right. And boost gages certainly are not always right.

A stock 14b 6cm^2 turbine housing could have something to do with your final VE and being able to run that boost. But you're certainly not going to have much gains, if you are truely running 27 psi.

What is your peak %IDC, if you have that information?

Back on topic :p , I noticed a tone change swapping from a 6cm^2 turbine housing to a 7cm^2 turbine housing. The note was louder and more raspy. Teh turbine side really controls the sound of exhaust as much as muffling. It is form of muffling but puts that lost energy to work. A t25 sounds great, because it really traps that exhaust flow good (and to it's detriment, even stock). You'll not like the sound of any turbo upgrade from here on out if the 14b is too loud/ricey.
 
So when you upgraded from the 14b to anything bigger the exhaust note will change? I thought I was crazy thinking my t25 sounded different than my 14b but maybe I wasnt...I'm about to go to the 16g, that'll change it even more huh?

Not as much as a 14b swap from a t25, but yes. Swap a 16g for a t3 stage 3 (50-trim), you'll swear you have an exhaust leak.
 
I just have a custom 3" exhaust with Dynomax race muffler; it's pretty loud at WOT, but not so bad when i'm just cruising around. It has a nice, deep, throaty tone to it. Of course, my turbo is quite a bit bigger than a 14b; that may have something to do with it.:D:talon:
 
My first DSM was a 1.8 (little to do with a turbo exhaust note but its all I got for relavant info) and I put a "flex section back" 2.5 with a stainless straight through Magnaflow on it,the second I started it afterward,I hated it!!!

It sounded exactly like all the "only mod is a muffler" Hondas out there because thats basically all it was, but my point was, I hated it too. Raspy tin-can rattle from the muffler at a certain RPM and it was embarrassing to drive.

What I did to fix it was buy a 24" glasspack and weld that in where the cat was,ended up pretty much a resonator just like you were thinking so I would try that,I think it was around $30 and mellowed out the exhaust tone and sounded alot more like I was originally hoping for.

I now have a turbo 1G with a 3"stainless downpipe except about an inch before the 02 housing it necks down to 2.5".The rest of the exhaust bolted to the downpipe is all mandrel bent 3" with one little pressbent section that goes under the axle and up to the Flowmaster and I love the sound of it!!! I just fired it up after the build and my girlfriend said "damn,it sure sounds good but it doesn't sound like a 4 cylinder",haha.

When I upgrade the turbo and round up a 3" 02 housing I'll replace the 2.5 section in the DP and replace that pressbend with a mandrel and I'd like to put a true N1 on the end.

I like the sleeper look of the flat black flowmaster with an 8" section of pipe on the end.rather stockish lookin but noticeably bigger if your lookin for it.The beat ass paint gives it a "no way that heap is fast" look also,haha.
 
All i know is my apexi with no cat and no res sounds so deep it is silly. My brother was driving next to me and he thought that im am over 300 hp with the sounds that my car makes. It is very deep and never ever gets raspy or ricey. I am with apexi for a while until i come across an HKS carbon fiber one that is cheap.
 
Yea I want that HKS CF muffler too, but its over 300 just for the muffler!!!

For that price you might as well buy the whole catback section! Thats crazy, and it's hard to find a muffler(carbon) with the burnt tip and goldish tint...

Its been a few months since she's run, but I think she fell off a little toward redline. I have ECU+, but the only log I still have is with the car off, just testing IAT and TPS. If you want to spend the effort, time, and harddrive space to download ECU+, I'll see if I can find an old log on my old laptop with records of duty cycle and boost. I'm sure at that point I was running 24-25 psi; it boosted alot harder after I replaced the exhaust gasket.
 
If it's too loud, you're too old. Keep rocking it!

Edit: just make sure your car has the timeslip to back up the noise.
