Nice! I've only seen and read about those cars in books. :thumb:

I've actually been quite curious as to the way the rollcage is setup in those cars. I've read that the Archer bros. positioned the cage as close to the body as possible to increase rigidity, and even trimmed some of the interior panels to do so.

I'll have the car at the upcoming Factory Mod Day in Normal IL on Sept 9th......you can check out the cage then. There are some interesting bits on it. For example, the tops of the front strut towers are connected together at the center of the firewall. From this point there are also two tubes that connect back with the remainder of the cage.

I'll also have it at Road America on Oct 15th for a track day.

I contacted Bruno at his shop in Toronto and he confirmed they have two of the 2g Archer cars. I wish I would have know - I was just in Toronto last week and could have stopped in.

Hahahaha, tired of anwering questions, eh? :p

Normal's not too far, school permitting, I'll make it out there. Can't wait to see it.

Just dug this photo up of this car along with its brothers back in the day.

When the rules allow it, many people just go straight through the firewall to the knee-bar.

Holy A/C delete, Batman! OMG

I'm confused. The Batmobile has A/C delete. At least, I see no evidence it has A/C.

You mean you don't have one yet? God it shaved about 2 seconds off my average autox times, not sure it's 100% SM legal, but noone's said anything yet ROFL

They won't sell me one because I'm only "half" Polish OMG

You can't have a veeblefetzer without a furshlugginer potrzebie.
Somebody has been reading old MAD magazines, it seems.

Lol, so that's where they got the ide for the F&F car.

If any of you remember, I mentioned that when I bought the #33 1993 Archer Talon that the seller also had the 1990 Bobby Archer "Thrifty Rental" car.

This car was recently purchased by another DSM fanatic that I have been in contact with and should be seen on the track in the near future. I'll let him post the details here if he wants.....

Hi Scott,

I had a few questions about your Archer Talon.

Are the Porterfield brake pads your preference or is that what came on the car when you bought it?

Do you have a pic of the side mount intercooler? Curious if it's the one Alamo use to sell, basically the Cartech intercooler.

What brand tires came with the car? Just wondering what Archer use to race with.

Many thanks for your time,

Richard Silva

I put the Porterfields in the car as I prefer these.

The sidemount is simply a thicker version of the stock intercooler - similar to the Alamo if I remember correctly. The car does have an Alamo sponsorship sticker on it. Interestingly, the car used the upgrade intercooler but it had the smaller stock inlet and outlet welded onto it when I received the car. I modified it by welding on larger inlet and outlet pipes so there is no change in pipe diameter in and out of the intercooler. I'll try to figure out how to attach some pics to this post or I'll send them to you.

The car came with Goodyear slicks. Goodyear was one of their sponsors. They were the originals and VERY hard. I ran them in one autocross. The car was tru to it's sponsorships. You can tell what was in it just by looking at the car's graphics. All of the brands "on" the car are "in" the car somewhere.....HKS (air filter, boost controller, VPC) Champion spark plugs, Goodyear tires, Centerforce clutch, Fuel Safe fuel cell, Eibach springs, Bilstein dampers, OMP safety equipment.

Hello---Scott and all the regulars up here. It's been a long time since I have been up here. Just wanted to introduce myself, my name is Phil Beers. Some guys may know my name from the Quarter mile discussions, mavisky, I remember. At one time my '90 AWD talon held the 14b turbo record a few years back......at 12.02@112. Well, the car should be finally back out this year to take the record back again which is currently at 11.64. I know, I know, whats all this 1/4 talk about? Just a short history on me. After this year, the car will be strictly for road course work..........along side the '90 ARCHER talon. I am the one who has purchased the car from the gentleman whom Scott purchased his awesome Willy Lewis '93 talon. I have yet to get the car back to Connecticut, but, soon it will happen. It's too bad that Greg has decided to exit the scence for now as he has answers to many of my questions for sure....but hopefully you all can help me out if needed as it seems you guys have taken notes. So, without making this too long, just wanted to say hi and rejoin the community. Thanks to Scott for the intro! Let's talk.

Wow, Phil Beers. Talk about people crawling out of the woodwork and returning to the dsm scene. I still remember the 30 page thread on talk where everyone was trying to duplicate that 12.0 run on their 14b's with the same mods.

Welcome to the biggest dsm forum in the world.

Hey Kyle....it's been a while. But, all along, my Talon stays stored and kept and I never forget about her. :thumb: I do remember those threads on talk. Definitely was cool. '07 the car will be back out again.......although it was not out in '06(ok, I drove it twice total 80 miles!) I did do quite a bit of changing to it, mostly suspension: rear sub bushings, toe-eliminator, Suspension Tech rear sway, JIC coilovers, ACT flywheel and Drive Shaft Shop drive shaft being the bulk of it. Basically giving the car what it needs to hit the road course, the local track for me being the small but awesome Lime Rock Park. The last time I ran there my Talon was stock 100% to the orignal Eagle GT+4 tires!, it was pouring rain, November of 1996. Since then, the car has been drag racing and has not been back. I will be going for some time trials on March 24th with my EVO, as the Talon is not quite ready yet because I do want to run it down the 1/4 mile a few more times this year. And, I have not picked up the Archer Talon yet...just waiting for all the unsettled weather to pass, so probably in March/April time frame.

While I've got you here, I'll ask your recommendation. The last piece of the puzzle for the Talon in reference to road racing is what wheel size to go with. I was thinking of just going to a 17 X 8. Now, the car has 16 X 7 CP-035's that are crazy light but in my opinion too narrow. I see Greg Collier with 9.5" which is killer but I'm not looking to go that crazy. I just returned from the Daytona Rolex 24 hr, and while down there stopped in at CCW wheels. WOW, that was cool. John down there talked of 17 X 9. With the Archer car an other things I just can't spend $2,000 plus on wheels at this point, not to mention I know it would require flaring as well. So??? thoughts???

Good to be back:)

I would like to hear your answer on that one too Kyle. I have a set of 16" wheels sitting around that I want to use for my race wheels. What size tires are the widest I can put on there with no flaring of the fenders? Can I get 245 / 30 / 16 on there? Maybe 245 / 40 / 16? Or what would you recomend for those wheels? Thanks Kyle.
