- Friend of a Friend had the car, daily drove it for years, then passed it on to his brother...who went rice boy with it. After having bought a new truck the car sat up for years in their yard in FL. I was told about the car and offered to buy it from them...a good amount of time went buy and supposedly they had listed the car for sale with no bites and so they passed along word to me, asking if I was still interested, if I was I could have it, if I would come get it. I told them that I was of course, though I didn't want to take the car for nothing. I called a buddy who lived in the area drove down, met up with him we took his pickup and trailer and went and got it.
After a month or so I finally was able to get it home, car had been sitting up for a long time...had various critters living in the engine bay, all manner of mossy/mildew funk growing on the body...through generous use of shopvac, pressure washing, and elbow grease, we got it liveable...and to a point where we figured we probably wouldn't get some kind of death mold from it. Now clean, we tore into it and rebuilt the top end of the engine, rebuilt the transfer case and driveshaft, fresh oils everywhere. Bled the brake system, new pads, rotors, tires. All the while going through and fixing all of the patchwork mess that had been done to it over it's life.
My intention was to get it back to a fully functional stock setup, so that I could daily drive it and would then have a solid safe platform to do any modifications properly. Drove the car for a year or so, put about 10k miles on it, went on road trips to TX and FL. Fuel pump gave up strategically with a bunch of other family ordeals and the car ended up having to sit for another few months before I could get back to it.
It has now been brought back into service, and I've begun using it daily again. My goal is to keep the car in a sort of Stock+ configuration. Leave the body and interior in stock form, as I really like the factory aesthetic. Currently my power goals are 450 AWHP, but while keeping full functionality of the car. I refuse to hack out systems to make it work. I'll be keeping AC, PS, cruise, all of it.
I do AutoX and will be getting into doing some road course type stuff and I want to use the car for that. It's a wonderfully solid platform and I believe will do me very well for my uses.
