- Background
- I purchased the car in May of 2004 and it was 100% stock. I originally purchased a Hahn Racecraft stage I turbo kit in 2007 and ran that for a few years on the stock motor. Eventually I cracked a ringland on the factory pistons and the car sat for a few years. I purchased a 2.2L stroker kit from Howell Automotive in 2009. After being jerked around with for OVER A YEAR, I finally received the parts for my block. The block was assembled and the car was put back together and ran great. In 2011 I purchased MegaSquirt for engine management and wired it in. Through trial and error I got the car running on MegaSquirt and got it running pretty well, at least that’s what I thought. I was doing some test runs a few months after the install and things went south and I ended up melting two pistons due to detonation. Oh well, you live and you learn right? After that, the car sat for another year before I decided to rip it apart again. In the winter of 2012/2013 I decided to finally do everything I’ve wanted to do to the car for the past few years. The common 2g DSM strut tower rust problem was getting out of hand on my car as there was a hole through the passenger side tower and a small hole starting on the driver’s side tower. I finally decided to address this issue and got them repaired at JC Kustums as well as the entire engine bay repainted and some other holes welded up that were no longer needed. This turned into ripping out the entire engine harness and making one from scratching after the rebuilt engine was put back in. I also decided to relocate the fuse box at this time as well. All in all, I was very happy with the way it turned out. I also had the hood, fenders, and front bumper repainted by Brent at Meticulous Auto Body in the spring of 2013. The rest of the body and paint is all original from when I purchased the car in 2004.
