- Background
- After a decade of dreaming about building a dsm, I purchased this car in September 2018. It spun a bearing with the previous owner and had been sitting for a few years in his shop. I am new to mechanics, so I enlisted my friend Jon to help me build this car into a fun sleeper and teach me the wrenching basics along the way. We removed the motor that had spun a bearing (smashed oil pickup tube) and decided to rebuild an old rusty junkyard block that came extra with the car. To our surprise, it honed and rebuilt well! The interior is beautiful, complete, and the leather is amazing for the 250k miles the car has. I am the 3rd owner and the car came with a huge pile of records and original title and key! That was the allure of this specific car. The goal is to build a 500-575 awhp street car that will also do a few drag races. Another "backup/drag" motor is currently being assembled. Freshly machined .20 block and head, weisco hd1400 pistons, and manley h-beams. We decided to see if the stock ol' rusty block could handle 35lbs of boost on e85 while having a backup just in case.
Edit: Ol rusty is out for a crank turn and rebuild. An oil cooler line blew and almost fried a main bearing. New motor is in. 8.5.1
