1999 Mitsubishi Eclipse N/T Vehicle Profile & Build Thread

Bought in 2013. As a line cook and warehouse worker I don't know much, however replaced quite a bit on this car and have learned a lot from it.

Background
In 2013, seven months after I bought the car I rear ended someone who was minding their own business doing an unknown speed on a 45mph road. I assume they were above the speed limit, for I hit them pretty hard after decelerating briefly once I reached around 100mph and barely used my brakes when I noticed they were suddenly in front of me. An excessive amount of picklebacks and Kettle One made the fact not matter that I saw the car further down the road way ahead of time.

That was the last time I left a Halloween party intoxicated. I glanced at an old man in a full speedo on a pedal bike that I was passing, then a side road, looked back, and that was all it took. Silly 21 year old decisions and awareness. Luckily they kept it in control after swerving around and only had a scratch on their rear bumper cover, stating "I can't wait around for cops. Besides, it looks like you are late for work" and took off. I just happened to be dressed as Deadmau5 for the party so I had a full business suit on.

Meanwhile, I'm inspecting my hood that looks like a twisted tortilla chip, the old man pedals over to me and throws my license plate at me, yelling. "YOU WERE ZOOMIN, YOU WERE ZOOMIN." He then made a bunch of other comments that I can't particularly remember and after he left I noticed my top radiator hose was leaking. I made it home a couple miles down the road without the motor over heating and, still living with my parents at the time, told them the bad news.

I brought the car to an autobody shop that said "It'll cost more to repair it than what it's worth, pal.", so my father and I put in some work ourselves. He came up with an idea that didn't make it perfect, but very close to it and good enough to where I could close the new future hood with ease. We slowly bent the front end back with a scissor jack, some chains, a 4x4 block, and a small red bucket. This made the alignment holes for everything under the hood nearly spot on.

Anyways, I bought a parts car with a hood that had hammer dents of some sort in it and rocked that hood for awhile until I bought a used carbon fiber hood oem style. Time went on and I got tired of looking at a dark hood. When I bought the car, the hood was painted black. I painted the parts car hood black and the CF hood was, of course, fairly black. Around 2017 I got a matching silver hood and used that until I hit a deer two weeks after replacing my suspension in 2021. Took the fender off, banged out the dents the best I could, put a jack in the headlight housing to bend that back in place, and put the oem headlights and CF hood back on until I could get replacement parts. I am now on my fifth hood for this car, second that is silver, fourth set of headlights, and just recently got a matching painted fender.

Not even a week later the neighbors kid who pedal bikes in our driveway sometimes comes by and swipes the new fender with his handlebar, leaving a nice long scratch.

Throughout the years I have come across four major tree limbs while "zoomin" down the backroads late at night, typically right after a turn. I've just grazed two and managed to stop in time for the others. The car still has the same front bumper cover throughout all of this and unless you really look, you can't even tell what it has been through.

In June of 2024 the transmission went on her and it took a lot of research, questions, and time for me, but I got the swap done. I just changed my first control arm in 2021, so this was a big deal for me. Shoutout to Black98'DSM and Petey Pop for their insight.

People are always disappointed when they find out it has no 4g63 in it. People who know how long I've had it are always surprised I still do. I love this car, and even if I do get an Evo 8, a GSX, an s2000 or whatever, I will own this car till it's completely busted.
