In the never ending battle to bring my car to a presentable status, I desided to replace my badly worn out drip rails above the doors. Why I did'nt do it sooner I don't know. I first placed an order though http://jnztuning.net for the drip rails. You can use what ever Mitsu parts supplier. They just happen to be close.
Mitsu part #'s
They were priced at the time of order at $26.49 each so no dent in the DSM fund.
Tools needed:
- PHILIPS HEAD SCREWDRIVER
- FLAT 1 INCHISH DULL PLASTIC SCRAPPER
OPTIONAL
First thing to do is remove the weather stripping from the body edge. I choose starting at the corner and slowly pulling it from the body taking care not to rip it. Pull it away until all the retaining screws are accessable.
Let it hang and start removing the retaining screws. There are actually two rails under the weather stripping and once all of the screws are removed slowly peel off the drip rail(s).
Seperate the drip rails and clean. The top rail is what your replacing the bottom rail with the elbow you will reuse.
I then cleaned the body area with super green and the weather stripping also. I then put two coats of wax on the painted parts and wiped it down.
- Starting with the new drip rail start the retaining screws in the sloted holes (3).
- Next line up the rear part of the drip rail with the rear quater window and tighten the closest screw, that will keep it from moving.
- Next install the second part of ther drip rail that you saved and re-install all of the remaining retaining screws.
- Next comes the fun part, the weather stripping is alittle difacult to get back on but if you have a flat plastic scraper it helps to lock the weather stripping back in place.
Now stand back and look at that beautiful beast and say why did I wait so long to do that?
