I'm tern down the 7 bolt I bought last week for my gsx. I have a new timing tensioner for a 7 bolt and it doesn't match the one already installed on the engine. The engine is from a 97 gst, I have a 96 gsx.

The tensioner in my hand is the new one, which one is the correct part, or does it matter?

The bolt holes are in the same spots, and it's angled the same as the one installed.

The one bolted to your motor in the pic is an "early 95" tensioner which is indicated by the 587. If the motor was originally equipped in a 97 model, the one in your hand is the correct tensioner for the motor.
