After mangling my strut tower bar & radiator frame structure winching the car on the trailer, I need to mount a tow strap. Any suggestions as to where to put it?

I would try and get a bracket as close to the frame rail as possible where the factory crash bumper mounts. You could weld something on to hook your tow strap too or maybe bolt something on.

You could get a bulfab crossmember or maybe a similar one. 004_large.jpg

Throw a towstrap around your front engine mount next time you need to winch it maybe? or weld a tow hook onto your factory crossmember?

Ive used Rennline universal kit, comes with a nice tow hook that screws into a mount which is bolted to my crash beam.
Ive been towed many times off track with out a issue, even with dragging the brake to keep tension in the tow line.

The car only rolled freely 2 out of the 3 times I used the winch this year.
I'm going to try this, worst case I mangle a crash beam?
I do plan to replace the bolt that came with the strap for a longer one.

Me and @greengoblin was discussing this not long ago, I got a strap I want to use but then I bought a wire with a hook i might use instead, Kevin liked one that pulled out and retracted back in once not needed.

Is that just mounted on the fiberglass bumper? If so, I don't see how that could possibly hold up, especially if the car doesn't roll freely.

bolt that strap to the frame rail. no good to just fiberglass

you might have to weld its bracket to the rail if you cannot find a decent spot to bolt it down

What about a homebrewed job that uses and old junkyard seatbelt that could retract when not in use? a seatbelt should be cheap and easy to procure and should easily handle the load of the weight of the car on it?

That bolt threads into the steel mount for the crash bumper. It should be pretty strong.

on my 98 crash beam there is already a hole where I want to put the strap, but not on my 95, so I drilled one. It's some sort of plastic material, and looks to be about 1/2" thick. My new hole is almost in line with the fasteners for the bumper support attachment.
I'll test it out before I put the bumper back on.

Towers sometimes dont have the time to be very kind or delicate, they are under pressure to get the track clean up and if your strap fails they will hook up to whatever they think will hold up.
Welded or bolted brackets should be mounted as low as possible to an even stronger part of frame.

Here's how I did a tow hook. The rear mount is done the same way.

The old seatbelt is an idea.. Not sure exactly where it could be hidden though. When it is rolled up they are pretty bulky.

Samuel, are you allowed to run an aftermarket crash beam in your class?

Not really, but if it wasn't any lighter than OEM & didn't provide any performance advantage, probably wouldn't get protested over it.

I made a bracket and welded it to the front of the car. Has worked perfect. Got towed 3/4 of lap around NJMP lightning after the cam sensor came loose. Worked great. Don't mind the booger welds on the stand-off LOL IMG_20170708_124305370.jpg IMG_20170708_130536664.jpg IMG_20170924_130256409_HDR.jpg
