Mine had been sitting for a while with a bad turbo, i put on a "good" turbo and it was billowing out blu smoke... needless to say i picked up a rebuilt 14b and used the 7cm evo housing from the bad turbo and then the smoke went away. I know that is irrelavant to the head issue but thought id share. I have a few theories on mine, the first being that the hg was just weak from being pounded on by the po and not maintained at all. The neglect was outright dispicable. I know it wasnt the water pump, i just replaced it with a brand new one amd flushed the coolant system. Also verified proper coolant flow at the thermo housing. It all looked normal visually and on the laptop then poof blown head gasket. The gasket isnt obviously blown either, just has some carbon tracing around the combustion chamber sealing ring... im definatly open to other peoples theories as well...Really interested in seeing how this turns out..i just bought my first one a 94 6 bolt 4 bolt swap and pretty sure i stretched a stud or lifted the head like the second day of driving it. So long story short gonna pull the motor and just go through it.. But def really curious how urs goes!!
Sounds like new Head Gasket timeYa im really new to these but the owner had boost turned down on a 16g turned it up a little cause it was running rich and it overheated on the highway when i take off the radiator cap exhaust comes through but also when i got it home oil was really low but i had just done a oil change..no leaks didnt seem to be burning so i wanna do a rebuild just to freshen it up..but i also need to get arp studs and a afpr and wanna do the dsm link and tune..it has a stage three ecu as well..but still love the car and excited/nervous bout tearing my motor apart haha
The dsm number one rule is maintain and repair first, mod secondOh def with out a doubt but for sure just wanna refresh it would hate to do that then have other issues
Thank you sir! Yours is nice too!! We need a tight crew of spokane people who like to wrench on their dsms!!Nice, need more nice 1gs around spokaloo.
The plan is for it to be a drivable machine sometime this winter. For some reason i never seem to get my AWD in the winter, just my truck which isnt bad but i want that all wheel feel during the slipperies... we'll see what happens thru the spring, summer, and fall. I plan to keep updates during the whole build and the pix will keep coming, im a very visual guy and i know alot of our fellow dsmers feel the same way. plus pix are always good for referencing your work.Excited to see how it turns out!!
Thank you.I will be watching this one because your posts are very entertaining. Good luck though.
