This is for all of those DSMers out there who have had issues getting their power steering belts to fit after a JDM engine swap.
Assuming that you didn't remove the OEM PS pump from your setup, the bracket will bolt right up to the JDM engine, with the exemption of the upper right bolt.
You'll reinstall the motor into your DSM and think all is going swimingly until bam! your belt has magically grown about an inch.
For all of us who have been through this, we know there isn't a belt on the market that will fit this setup properly. (Using belt MD310617)
The culprit is the PS mounting bracket that is attached to the block. At a quick glance, they look very similar
(left - JDM right - OEM)
Where on closer inspection, we can see the JDM bracket is ~ 1" shorter then the OEM bracket on the pump mounts.
** the last one was taken level, not at an angle to make it look bigger....
If you were lucky enough to keep your OEM bracket after an install, they can be swapped out with a bit of work. Sorry in advance, but I didn't get any images of the work.
Step 1: Remove the power steering belt and pump from the bracket and move it off to the side. Under the AC lines keeps it out of the way.
Step 2: Remove the pump bracket. 2 bolts hidden by the pump should be all that are holding it in as the third, upper bolt shouldn't have lined up properly. If it did, you either modded the bracket, or shouldn't have to do this in the first place. Recheck your belt!
Step 3: Remove the bracket attached to the mid section of the block. There are 3, 14mm bolts. 2 just above the main water pipe, and one just below it (which also secures the oil dip stick tube)
Step 4: Remove the exhaust manifold as it will give you more room to work, as well as the lower right stud. This stud prevents you from moving the block mounted bracket in a position to remove it.
Step 5: This part was a little tricky and requires a little bit of force. You need to fiddle with the loose bracket to pop it out. I found if you rotate it clockwise and give it a little tap on the upper portion, the lower bolt eyelit will pop right up and VOLIA! There you have it.
Now see for yourself the difference and feel free to let out a "DOH!" I sure did...
