I take it it's a bad idea not to have one? Just trying to keep this car light-weight.

Will a thin sheet of aluminum hold the plugs in the engine in case they blow out? I mean is that why you guys rock one, besides style? The bolt holes are so close to the edge, it makes me think the material has to be really strong in that situation.

EDIT: BlackWidow, that looks great.

It is purely a cosmetic piece, there is no way any of these will stop a plug from popping out if it is going to happen (with the possible exception of that diamond plate one). These just add to the look of a clean engine bay, or in my case running the factory plastic one just help keep a semi-stock appearance under the hood.

Lately mine has been left off though because I now live in the South and it rains so often that I got sick of taking it off to dry out my spark plug wells from water that got on top of the engine through my after market hood vent.

I figured if there were one here that looked like mine I wouldn't post it, however I havnt seen one so here it goes.
Ok itll work now.

This is with the old ugly 20g. Dont hate on its cuteness.. haha Car now has a pte gt35r :)

^^^^^^^^ Wow, that is a great looking engine bay, I really like the vinyl on the stock cover.

a little off topic but were do you get all these custom spark plug covers made?

Here's mine. I couldn't use the typical cover as I have coil on plug, plus I needed one to prevent water from hitting the spark plug area at all due to my hood vents. This redirects water around the valve cover but leaves a gap for some airflow to the coils. It uses threaded standoffs of course to allow me to use the stock bolt holes.

To the others that have mused about the purpose of the spark plug covers I had mine off and during a rain storm hit a huge puddle after which my car sputtered and wouldn't run. Found water was able to splash all the way up above the engine and fall into the spark plug wells. I luckily had a towel and with the hot engine bay in the rain had to try to soak up the deep pools of water in each well as best I could and nurse the car home. I've since always kept my plug cover on (prior to the COP) just in case and I'd suggest the rest of you do the same. It's funny how the original engineers usually had at least one good reason for parts on these cars.

Yup, it's undeniable. And you tend to find out why the hard way. ROFL

My car is gutted, and I have learned this is true..

I don't have the weatherstrip on my carbon fiber hood. Maybe I should put one on after reading this, I don't think it would have done the trick in your case, but. Well, whatever, time for another beer.

I really like your setup. But I've got to say, err.. suggest, rather. The stock unit, not to mention all the others posted up here besides your own, would all leak water into the plug area if water was to be splashed or poured on top. Much pooling potential.

hey i have a question for the people who made there own i have a computerized torch welding class and i need the dimensions for the chamfer (Squared egdes) and the fillets (Round edges) im going off of my stock spark plug covers i am hopin that its gonna be one of a kind
