Hello all some time back I picked up a 96 Talon ESI and joined this site sadly the Talon just had to mini problems to deal with and it dident take lone to just say *F* IT and sell it off... Now im back I just picked up this 90 Eclipse GS-Turbo on the cheap except for some rust on the driver side door and some chipping paint on the front bumper its in pretty good shape but she dose need work and lots of it mostly just small stuff but it dose need a new clutch and looks like 2 of the charge pipes need changed as well... The car has already had a new master cylinder and slave cylinder installed before I got the car and the old owner threw in some Dropzone 2" drop springs witch ill install after I get the new clutch in iv also ordered brass shifter bushings and a new short throw shifter

 The parts list growing

Need new slave cylinder I think
Oil PSI sensor is broke
Fan switch sensor is broke
Missing fan relay
Missing timing chain cover both upper and lower
Cracks and cuts on the rubber intercooler piping
Driver side A-arm is rusted out
Needs all new belts
Needs full tune up
Well need brakes

Here's a quick little "Start Up" vid that I took after the tune up it still has a miss to it cause I still need to adjust the cam sensor now that its back in time it sounds worse in the vid because it has a few exst. leaks

[ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4RNOM4HE0qc[/ame]

Adjust the cam sensor and got her running alot better

And my worst fears have come to pass I took her for her first real drive sins I got it and with the crap piping its leaking boost making it over boost so looks like my next buy is going to be some new intercooler piping its the 89 Probe GT all over again :ohdamn:

Fixed the wire for the temp gauge today so I let her run for about 20min and got it nice and warm after the 20min I started to smell something odd coming from the tail pipe so I started looking for the cause and found this

Also iv got this little yellow and red wire by the battery if any one can let me know were it goes also its coming out of the harness so it cant go very far

Got board and decided to find out what the hell is going on so I pulled the manifold and turbo off

Cant really see whats going on

I cleaned it up a bit and im pretty sheer I found the problem I don't know if you can see it but that sheer as hell looks like a cheap ass eBay head gasket I get alot of stuff from eBay but never something so important as a head gasket the exst. manifold gasket is also a eBay gasket so im guessing the intake has one to who the hell would put a eBay head gasket on a turbo car???

Heres a few shots of the turbo it looks like it was leaking from the dump pipe

Been working on the head all day you guys wont be leave all the BS im finding

Hose for the BOV was not clamped down in the intake
The fuel return line did not have a hose clamp
The vacuum line for the FPR had a big hole in it
Non of the injector plugs have clips
The cam caps were over TQ so the intake cam has some scaring
And my favorite the intake manifold had no bolts on the bottom
Some people should just not be allowed within 10 feet and a screw driver LOL
Also of course I did not know the factory head bolts are 10mm allon heads

So here's the pics from my little Op

Just starting

Almost off at this point I had to go buy a 10mm allon for the head bolts

Heads off and getting ready to be cleaned up I also ran the new vacuun at this point ### I could get to the harder ones pretty easy

Here you can see were the old one was leaking and I was wrong its a Fel-Pro not an ebay one

Now im just need to get some bolts and more gaskets and I can finish putting it all back together

did you check the valve stem seals inside the head when it was off? mine has bad exhaust stem seals and it leaks out of the exhaust manifold gasket, also it seems to be in the picture you're missing one of the top left exhaust studs?

valve stem seals are ok it was leaking from the head gasket judging from the crapy work the last guy did im guessing the head bolts were not TQ down right im also a bit worried that the head may be a bit warped

And that stud come out with the nut

Got it all back together last night running pretty much the same but its not leaking from the head any more :thumb: and as a bonus with all the new vacuum lines and every thing put back together right the turbo spools faster :hellyeah:

looking good im picking up a 92 and a 93 eagle talons hopefully they havent been worked on by the same guy LOL

I hope not I know the best way of learning is by doing but some people just need to be taken out and brutally beaten :nono: Luckily they did not do anything that can't be undone with a little know how :thumb:

Have you done a boost leak test recently since you put it all back together?
I'm sure there is a leak at your Throttle Body along with many pinholes in your stock IC piping that you can't see.

If it's surging, here's a great reference to help you out:
Terry's Talon Troubleshooting Tips #3 - Fast Idle (aka. Idle Surge)

Unfortunately, seeing the condition of the car, and the previous work done to it, you'll have a long check list to get her running right. But you're moving along.

Every things working pretty good and its running pretty good I took it for a drive the other day I think the boost PSI is higher thin it should be but it didn't over boost it just smokes a bit here and there out the tail pipe so I put my compression tester on it and was shocked to see it had really good compression #1=140psi #2=140psi #3=150psi #4=145psi Iv never seen a 20 year old car with this mini miles test so good :thumb: so if its smoking I must have a leaky valve seal or something :hmm: but it doesn't smoke alot so im not worried

Picked up a timing cover and a spark plug cover a little bit ago I just got done cleaning them and I put the spark plug cover on and it looks so much better with just that one peace of plastic LOL Its raining right now so later this weekend ill see about putting the timing cover on... I also ordered the sensor to get the oil gauge to work

Good progress. Slowly but surely it looks like you are getting the car back to where it could be. There is a lot of potential there. Always liked 1ga gsts..

Edit**
Judging by the oil around your exhaust manifold I would guess you have a bad valve stem seal. I had one as well and had that issue as well as blue smoke at idle, a little at take off but none while driving. Your turbo could the culprit.

Thanks

Well its not really blue like oil and its not white like coolant it looks like just plane exhaust smoke and smells like carbon I guess my cat. could be about to fail but it dont act like it so my moneys still on a leaky valve seal

I got board last night and installed the timing cover its almost back to factory spec LOL

Iv also got a new problem with 1st gear it works fine but if you dont wait a few sec. after pushing in the clutch it will catch and grind and only going into 1st... When I put the clutch in the trans did not leak a drop so for not I thinking it just needs some oil to lube things up a bit

It is one of the two, oil or coolant but it really sounds like a valve stem seal. The oil around the exhaust manifold ports is a give away.

As far as the clutch issue goes, both my GSX, and 92' 3000gt were tough to get in to first at a stop sometimes as well, pumping the pedal once or twice usually does the trick. When I replaced the master and slave cylinders in the 3k it went away so it could be one of those two.

The oil on the manifolds is from the head gasket it was leaking when it was hot and oil bubbled out I put a new head gasket on and it has not did it sins

Its got a new master slave cylinder but ya the slave cylinders its self looks a bit long in the tooth

It looked shiny like there was oil around and inside the exhaust manifold ports and on top of the manifold. I wouldn't overlook the vss as a possible culprit.
