A lot of this is going to be transferred from a different forum. I will just be changing things as I see fit. Here we go!

I believe I got this car Sunday, June 27th at what once was the "Sport Compact & Jags Diesel weekend" at Brainerd Internation Raceway (BIR), in Brainerd, MN. This car was actually my first car even though I have put less than 2,100miles on it! LOL It came from Hudson, WI. It surely wasn't and isn't perfect but I love the damn thing. So onto the pictures!

These were my ideas of how I wanted the car to look. Just simple MicroSoft Paint..."renderings" if you can even call them that. Hahaha.

Now stick with me here.. I had little to no car experience before this thing. I thought I was really making some sort of progress here. LOL It's really funny now that I think of it. I do remember removing a bunch of random wires and looking for a mouse nest.

This as well as my newly acquired 1999 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS-T had spent a month or so at my dad's body shop. There were numerous times hail were predicted. Even though this thing wasn't much to look at and had it's fair share of hail damage, I talked my dad into letting me store it inside. Hahaha

Remember here guys; I was new to owning my own car and such so when my dad sarcastically said we were going to paint this thing flat black I actually liked the idea. I mean, I even went so far as to want to do up green HIDs, lime green accents and such.. Blah! :toobad: So glad the guys over on the other forum talked some sense into my. Who remembers this car? "Girl in the black car"...or whatever it was. Loved this thing. *This car is satin black, I know!*

Hahaha! As you can tell from that last comment; I don't exactly care for wet sanding primer! I suffered through however.

Remember the saying "Do as I say, not as I do"? Well here it applies...sort of. My dad and I wanted to save the carpet in this thing and decided to use a well known brand dye. It worked. It looked great. Sadly it didn't last however. I'm sure there was a step that we missed or something. The pictures can do the talking though.

"I though I might as well update this thread a little bit.

My dad and I dyed my carpet dark gray and got most of the interior installed."

Also, YES the amp is mounted on the back of the seat. And wouldn't you know, there are already pre-drilled holes there. I am assuming not from the factory, LOL. I also managed to rewired the fuel pump.

My dad also primed everything else.. "

"Today he painted a few things, I have yet to see them though.

Saturday, the car get's painted. Will keep this updated as everything unfolds."

Now let's take a step back. During the time of the sound deadening being removed and the car being completely stripped I found the remnants of a mouse nest in the cowl and heater core plastic housing/HVAC ducting. I spent a few hours fishing it out. Rather than taking the dash out and cleaning it as I should have. Yeah, I was lazy. Still kinda' am, hahaha. I didn't know what I was doing though. Now I have done it more than 4 times so I can do it in about an hour all by myself.

This is probably my favorite part of my entire thread. Hands down. Fresh paint?! Hell to the yes! Enjoy.

...OHH! Don't mind the image of the lame ass, copy cat forum that I was so foolishly supporting back in those days. The "owner" was a local and a "DSM'er". Also a liar and a child rapist/sex offender....buuuuuuut, that was the past. Hahaha. ONTO THE PICTURES!

I almost feel I pressed my dad too hard to cut and buff the car too soon after paint. This picture always makes me sad because the paint looks so dull. Even to this day I don't see the luster and depth the paint used to have. Then again, less than 2,100 miles in this thing. I don't know for sure. Maybe it still has it's deep look. It's just been too long!

"I still plan on getting LED replacements so the cops do not even have an excuse to pull me over for the lights being "too dark".

I think the next thing on my list to do is tint the side markers for the front bumper. Then possibly black out the headlight housings. After that I believe I will start tearing into the engine."

This here many have you guys laughing. Like I said; I changed my mind A LOT! Still do.. The main reason behind this was to tailor the car to more how I wanted it. Or how I saw it in my "dreams" I guess. Be prepared to do a little bit of reading.

04/07/2012

"Here is somewhat of an update. It is probably going to end in more of a Q&A session than anything, hahaha. Any who;

After a lot of thought about many things I decided I was going to swap the interior. I am swapping from the brownish color it has now, to black and tan. One of the main deciding factors I would have to say, was the lingering odor of what was (or is), a mouse nest.

Since originally getting the car and redoing it, I have pulled most if not all of the nest out. There is enough left though, that it is affecting the ability of the airflow when using the heat and such as well.

After decided I started collecting all the interior parts. I have almost everything. All I need now are door panels, seats, a center console, a headliner, and sun visors. Otherwise I am set and have two of a few things!"

"Here is after being ArmorAll'd for the final time (tonight)."

"I know it still doesn't look as great as it could, but for under $100 I am not complaining! Now comes to the questioning.. As some of you may, or may not know, I have a few goodies saved up for this car. The parts are kind of....varying though. 264/272* cams, a TiAL 38mm, a Holset HX35, Wally. 255... Also a 2.4L crankshaft. Here comes come the fun questions.

What do I do? Keep the idea of building a 2.3L stroker to run E85 though (1600cc injectors) with the Holset, or keep it stock? Or do I use the cams and get 'Link V3 and have a LITTLE bit of fun? I do not know whether to go full out, of just do something "fun". Help guide me here guys. Thanks!"

"Oh, almost forgot some of the pictures I snapped of the car today! My dad cleaned it, waxed it and all one day while I was at school! Too bad I have the GS-T to drive daily now. Not to worry though. This will be out again sooner or later. On to the pictures!"

After talking with the guys on the forum this is posted on they told me to go after something simple. A 16g car with the cams and such. Nothing insane just simple, tried and true. It didn't take me long to get some parts to do so. It helps I had many connections with local DSMers before they parted out/got rid of their cars.

This post sort of explains itself.

07/07/2012

"Well I have decided it is time to start fixing a few of the problems this thing has. The first thing is the front end. This car has to have been in an accident. The hood and driver's side fender do not sit right on/next to each other. Plus the headlight sticks out too far.

So I was thinking since I will be working on the front end, I might as well go after my original plans of the 2gb Eclipse front end conversion. I hate how everyone does the 2gb Eclipse conversion on Talons though, especially on the front. So I want to put a twist on it. I cannot decide between these two options. Help me decide which to go with."

07/23/2012

"I started working on the car again. I forget if I have mentioned this or not but the engine has been making a tapping/rattling sound (from 3,000 up). I believe it is a cracked flex plate and/or the disc/teeth around the torque converter. That discouraged me a bit so I moved onto the interior/dash swap. I didn't get far but here are some pictures anyhow.

"When I get a chance I am going to file it down and drill out the holes for gauges and buttons."

I took some sort of break here not sure why. I think the lack of interest from forum members and the weather change didn't help.

11/25/2012

"I haven't really worked on the car since my last post. I've worked on some of the dash/interior parts however. One part would be the center vent gauge holder/cluster. I cut out the holes for the buttons I plan to use."

photobucket-44589-1353901252182.jpg

"I also just found a close size hole saw (51mm) to fit my 52mm gauges. It will at least get me on the right path of getting the gauges put where they belong. I'm not sure if I am going to keep the stagger/angle I have between each of the gauges; like I have draw here."

"On another note, I have started cleaning up my old laptop to start refreshing it for its future job as a tuning laptop. I know next to nothing about computers or operating systems so I will probably have to look around on what I want to do with this. Especially as far as upgrading it goes. None the less, here she is in her unfound glory."

"Since winter is starting and the Colt is DAMN NEAR done (thank God), I am going to start from the ground up with this thing. Suspension and possibly braking is on my list of things to do. Stay tuned for that. Thanks for looking!"

Haha! Suspension and braking...yeah right. Not much got done with this thing. Sadly.

"Depending on what I keep, I should have a spare 7 bolt short block and something to get a 6 bolt swap possibly started."

Literally between 02/04/2013 nothing really happened with my car. It sat in the "shed" at my dad's shop until 01/08/2014 before I made another post. The post simply read "Well, I guess it is about time to blow some of the dust off of this again.. Engine and trans. pull? Sounds a lot more simple than pulling the auto. alone to me." Again, not much happened. I talked about wanting to do this and that but nothing ever came of it.[DOUBLEPOST=1417412744][/DOUBLEPOST]In the summer of 2013 I messed with the car a little. I mean I thought about driving it a few times but never did. I was too focused on my girlfriend (at the time), upcoming college, getting my 1995 12 Valve Cummins (from Nebraska [what a drive!]) and my '94 Colt I wanted to 4g63 swap. Just stupid stuff like that a person can get caught up in too easily.

Fast forward to 01/25/2014; no girlfriend, my Colt was still a 4g15 gutless wonder and my trucks transmission was being..iffy. Never did it leave me standed! I thank The Big Man upstairs and the idiots at Chrysler for that one. Who would've thought that a transmission from the mid 50's would be used (with minimal modification), in a diesel pick-up truck in the 1990's? I mean what is torque?! Hahaha!

One day I decided I was going to move this thing myself from Wadena to Bemidji to my apartment. Literally 10 minutes into the trip I passed my buddy Keith and he decided to help me move the car. I don't think I could have picked a worse time of the year to move thing thing. What a stupid idea!

"So a friend and I hauled this thing up here to Bemidji a few weeks ago. Kind of a pain to load and unload off of the trailer with wood planks to help it not rub. Then the planks got wet as we unloaded; INTERESTING (sliding and sh*t)."

"As the weather started getting colder and classes started up I just put off pulling the transmission.. Now this here...I'm not even sure how to explain. The owner of the apartment had an older gentleman come pick up and fix his snow blower (you can see in the second picture).

The day after he dropped it back off I came out to see this."

"That would be a nice size dent and chip down to what I think may just be metal. I don't honestly remember but I do have part of the paint chip in my truck. You could say I wasn't and still am not too happy about it. My assumption is that the older guy that came to work on the snow blower and tried fixing it by flipping it on it's side in between my truck and the car. Obviously hitting the damn thing and saying nothing.

The owner of the apartment said he will take care of it so I'm not going to complain. What a pain in the ass though. After all the work to paint this thing. Stupid.. I guess this time it's getting wrapped in some damn bubble wrap! Hopefully next time I can post on a positive note instead of b*tching!"

Yeah.. I was pissed. I still am. No the car has not been repaired yet. The owner of the apartment is around 75+ so I feel bad taking it to a shop and making him pay for it. I guess I'll see what insurance can do with it otherwise I'll pay for it out of my pocket. I still have some leftover paint so it'll just be sand paper, filler, primer and clear. My dad has all of this on hand though so he and I can figure something out.

"I am somewhat sad to be posting in this thread but happy as well. I am sad for the fact I had this car running for a few weeks (driving too I might add), then suddenly it decided to break itself. In nothing but true DSM fashion of course. I am happy as of the direction this car will FINALLY be taking!"

temporary_zps44e85ad8.jpg

"Now to answer all of the questions; yes the front bumper came off. It was to attempt to fit the MAP FMIC kit I picked up for cheap. I just left it that way because I had a feeling something stupid was going to happen and I'd likely need it off anyhow. Guess who was right?

Sometime this week I took the car out to go grab some McDonald's. I pulled up to a stop light with intentions to turn right and did so. As I completely the turn the transmission seemed to nearly downshift then maybe slip. It revved to probably 8k then jump back down. I instantly got over to the other side of the road and costed into Holiday."

temporary_zpsed48f7e5.jpg

temporary_zps2c410153.jpg

"I called a bunch of people and finally found a friend to help. I attempted to drive it as this grinding sound persisted from the transmission. I was about a mile from Northwest Tech. so I wasn't worried. After about 5-6 blocks of going 20MPH (the max speed it would go), I gave up and we pulled it with a mini-a$s, broken ratchet strap."

At this point I got that "Gotta' build it!" mentality. Yet I had just dropped a decent amount on rebuilding/building the burnt 47RH out of my truck. I am not very happy on the amount I dropped on the transmission. Especially since I allowed one of my room mates to help me finish it last minute as we were cutting it close with school closing for the year. He didn't tighten the inner pump bolts and over tightened both bands. The bands burnt out within 6.5 miles and 3-5 stops along that trip. What a pain.

The truck got repaired this summer but had to be hauled back to my home town as I worked a 6-6 job during the week and had a second job on weekends. My parents were amazing enough to cover that bill so I never saw it. I know it was north of $500....maybe even $1,000. Thanks God for parents, huh? I'll admit that thing had me pretty stressed!

Any-damn-who! Back to the DIZZUM!

If ya'll don't remember reading it earlier I suspected that this was an issue from the get go. This problem didn't start right away after getting the car but rather after sitting awhile. God knows it did plenty of that! The few boosted launches I got in probably didn't help. Hahaha. I might also mention the transmission in this car had been replaced for some reason some time before I got it. Whatever; fine by me! It'll still get taken apart and inspected before I use it again.

The previous front end damage is something I wish I would've fixed to begin with. Hindsight is always 20/20 though. LOL I guess it just gives me a reason to modify it. Everyone voted tube front end. I vote..I don't know what the hell to do. LOL Any ideas from you guys here would be awesome![DOUBLEPOST=1417416362][/DOUBLEPOST]Here is a picture of that weak flex plate!

These are common issues in automatic DSMs? No kidding?!?! I never would have guessed! Hahaha. Please excuse my sarcasm.

So here is a post about what my plans are for the engine.

2.3L stroker. The block will remain an Evo. III block. A 1995 Evo. III block nonetheless. I think that't kind of cool. Not just because of the "hella' JDM block braww!" but because it's from a generation Evo. that never made it's way to the US and it's still from a 1995.

Yes I am going to remain 7 bolt. There are many reason for this but the main reason is 4g64 cranks are easier to come by. I still have the one I posted so long ago. If it turns out to be junk for some reason (I know it won't), I can buy another one for a quarter of what a G4CS costs. I also see 6 bolt swaps as played out now that the late 90's revised 7 bolts are being circulated quite a bit. Oh! The little automatic and no high pressure clamping force clutch thing has me swayed a little too. LOL

So here:

'95 Evo. III block
0.020" - 85.5mm (3.366")1400HD Wiseco 9.0:1 2.3L pistons
150mm Oliver connecting rods
ARP Main studs
OEM 4g64 crank
OEM front case/oil pump w/ '90 straight cut drive & driven gears
Balance shaft delete using stub shaft
ACL Race main bearings
Clevite Tri-metal rod bearings

I will be using a MLS head gasket. The decision isn't final between an OEM Mitsubishi MLS and a FELPRO permatorque but I think FELPRO is going to win.
MAPerformance (A1 Technologies) H11 headstuds
EPN Stainless Steel, swirl polished valves
EPN bronze valve guides
EPN 3mm HLA/lifters
Evo. rocker arms
Reused or Manley keepers
Kiggly valve strings
Kiggly HLA/head oil pressure regulator
Kelford or GSC 272 camshafts
AEM adjustable camshaft gears

All other gaskets will be OEM. Seals more than likely will be the same. Valve steam seals will be viton GSC.

The exhaust manifold will either be a custom built MAPerformance T4 divided, twin-scroll top mount or whatever brand I decide on...LOL!
The turbo has already been purchased. It is a BorgWarner S400 or specifically S467 (67.7mm) with the smaller .98 A/R turbine housing. I am a little scared about spool characteristic only being able to rev to 8,500 RPM.

With the extra 0.3L, (yet to be determined) 9.X:1 compression ratio, E85 (or better) and the smaller turbine housing I think there is hope. A little N20 might be in order to help spool it however this is purely speculation and pre-planning.

Give me your opinions guys. I'd love to hear any input. Also feel free to ask questions, critique me or point out where in my posted I may have fudged some things.

Thanks for looking! I'll update as I am able and as I make progress!

Oliver Billet Extremes and Wiseco HD's order yesterday. They should make it to me the week after PRI. So much joy in December IDK what I'll do with myself!

It has been a little while since I have updated this I see. I almost have all of the parts I need. I did forget a few things such as an oil pan. How does one do that?! LOL Anywho, I also over ordered a few things. None other than seals. The website claimed the front cover didn't come with seals so I added the ones I thought I'd need to the cart. Now I'm stocked on some seals for my other engines. LOL

Anyway, here are the parts and such. Excuse the pictures; they were taken with a potato.

The last picture was yesterday as I took everything to school to machine. I'm only about 4-5 months late doing this. LOL It is better to be late doing it then to never do it at all. Thanks for reading!

Nice paint job, and everything else. This is inspiration for me. Greets from Mex

Thank you guys! This car has a lot of work left in it before it will be ready. Its going to be fun in the end. I also appreciate the kind words on this being inspirational.

Have yourselves a good one. God bless!

The crank I had saved up was showing oxidation and had a gouge on the front main seal journal. Instead of going to the local junkyard and buying an entire 4g64 and hoping the crank was perfect....I just did what had to be done. LOL

Here is my simple/basic stroker clearance. I'm expecting to do more but without being able to use the right pistons I took a guess.

If you look close enough you'll see some of the work I have put into the bottom end. I still need to clean up the font case/oil pump passages in the block. Just sand them down smooth and I guess polish them a tad. Hopefully something like my GS-Ts block..

Oh my have I neglected this thread! Alright well; not too long after the last post in this thread I had issues with the main bores/align hone of the Evo.III block. So I gave up on it. Pretty sad, no? I have a nitch for not giving up on things so soon but...well, I did this time. I went hone one weekend and grabbed a spare 7 bolt short block I had. It was literally given to me when I bought out a guy from the "DSM game".

Anyway I found a 'walked crank and a spun rod bearing. I worked to get a perfect "line" hone and did just that.

After having issues boring on both out Rottler and Kwik-Way boring bars we realized something; this block had been incorrectly machined before. Stick with me here. When resurfacing the deck surface you are supposed to setup off of the mains. That or shim the oil pan rails correctly. This block was just set up and cut. It left me with an uneven surface to setup off of. This is what we had at the end.

Cool right? Just a nice little hole in the cylinder. My instructor was all for me putting a sleeve in. I told him no way! I had put one in before and I was alright with having done it once. Putting one in a 350 a few days later and I had my fill for awhile! So I was screwed! Or I had though. I said a little prayer and grabbed the Evo.III. I jumped on the "line" hone and got the hone correct. This after making a custom tool to sand the caps for the girdle.

With the line hone figured out and all the mains within maybe .0002-.0003" of each other I went onto some other mods I wanted to do. Well..one actually. LOL Block ventilation. I know very little about the 4g63 and its ventilation system. Yeah I've read the threads and blahh! I forget easily. I do know the crankcase ventilation sucks or sucked, whatever! Onto the pictures.

Remember my little bit about setting up off of the mains to resurface or deck the block? Yeah...we don't have the "luxury" here. We have uneven, unlevel "blocks" or "parallels" to setup off of the oil pan rails. Well, this didn't interest me. Nor did my instructors idea of making the setup I needed to do it this way.

1512016_10206870272462423_3282620749828089327_o_zpsfnpqkdkb.jpg

Yes, that would be a 2" bar that is normally used on our CNC mill clamped onto the unlevel and uneven "parallels". The brackets being made out of aluminium and hand cranks for the hold downs. Then the stops on the two corners that touched the block by maybe 1/4", no even that. Oh, you cannot forget the fact the block wasn't being held steady by anything. YUCK!

So I got a hold of a buddy down in Cottage Grove, Minnesota at MAP (ModernAutomotive Performance). We came to an agreement and I made the four some odd hour trip one way there to have the block resurfaced. We did it the incorrect, correct way; we set it up on precision, level and even parallels. We then shimmed the block to make it level with the machine. Aric is my buddies name and he's a cool dude. We was a second year here at NTC when I was a first. He turned out the most engines and is an import guy. Heavy into the Hondas but has himself a nice 240 that they're taking good care of at MAP. He's been wanting an Evo. though since starting there. I keep telling him to come to the dark side! Not really, we have plenty of light... Anyway, onto the less creepy pictures.

Today I put the old H11's in and through my torque plate on with a used FELPRO MLS I bought for $30. It is on the hone and just needs to be setup. Tomorrow I plan to go in at 9am and bang it out. If time allows I may consider doing some porting on my head. I believe I finished the intake ports and can move onto the exhaust. Then I need to find a means on polishing them both!

After that it is guide time! Measure the old heights, pound 'em out, pound some shiny bronze ones in then hone 'em up! Oh...I so supposed I should unshroud the valve. Mitsubishi had a nasty cast going for their heads. Inside and out. The nastiest is my combustion chambers...sadly. So I'll have to get on that. Them polish the combustion chambers. HAHA! And to think, I have to have all my stuff out of out shop at the school the week of May 8th! Yeah I'm screwed...LOL You never know! God willing it will be done.

Oh, here's the color for the block.

I've been all over. Purple, then Cummins beige...I went to metallic gold. I considered silver or aluminum..then the cast iron color Dupli-Color makes. Ugh! This will just go better with the car over-all.

Thanks for reading guys! Sorry for not being better about posting things as it happens. I'll work on that. Thanks again though!

When I measured the main bores they all measured within 2.4020-2.4018". I put the main bearings in after that and I have my oil clearance measurements I am just unsure where my clipboard is. I also took some time to shave down that 1/2" NPT fitting/breather. Please don't mind the one brass plug. Looks kinda' derp. Otherwise the paint looks alright.

While looking at John Whalen's page on Facebook to reference these oil squirters I also noticed I have not yet clearenced the bottom of the cylinders for my rods. So it looks like Monday will be a grinding and cleaning day for sure. LOL Can't win with this thing lately!

I am going to wait until I can get an ARP stretch gauge and talk to some people with more experience on torquing Oliver rods. Here's some picjars though!
