Please tell me you put the windage tray on that girdle...

Love the build man. Your car makes me like the blue talons. Not a fan of blue eclipse but really like those pics after wash. I have cayenne red in dire need of repainting. But mucho props to you man, would love to see what that thing looks like as it passes me on the road. :thumb:

Please tell me you put the windage tray on that girdle...

Yep, I did. However soon after I discovered something that halted the progress.

Are you going to bang out the bid dents in the bottom of oil pan? Those look deep enough that they could interfere with the oil pick up.

FYI: My 7 bolt 4g63t pan fits my 7bolt 4g64 perfectly, including the ARP mains.

I'm going to get an entirely new oil pan because this one is full of dents, and it's full of caked on sludge that is mixed with metal flakes from the bent rods/spun bearings/terrible motor damage from before. Not even a hot tank cleaned the underside of the baffle in the oil pan.

Also, all of my issues are because it's a 3G 4G64/Evo 2.4. I had no idea how different the two motors are, and they look identical at first glance. Totally do not blame my machinist either because not even I could tell. This thoroughly puts to bed the "you can totally fit a 3G 4G64 in a DSM" though because all of the bolt holes except for two on the bellhousing do not line up. Not even close. So right now progress is halted.

Well, I was away on a missionary trip to Tanzania Africa, so progress on this build was at a zero for awhile. However I'm back. Once I allocate funds(i.e. get a job), progress will pick up again. Machinist is fixing the mistake and has been very awesome, and helpful throughout the process. No issues at all.

This is how it looks right now. I washed her yesterday, but today the sun hit it juuuust right. ;D

Soooooon. Stay tuned. :)

Well, after much deliberation, I ordered a long-block and a couple other parts from @Stangmurdera aka Miller Import Parts. I'm gonna get it running to iron out all of the little bugs with the body, and test the car out, and just to have something to drive. I sold the built 2.4, but I'm going to have another one built. I didn't trust the BC rods, and this next one I'm going to have built will be a full Manley rotating assembly. Manley 'race' 100mm crank, Manley 100mm H-beam plus rods, Manley pistons w/ thicker wrist pin. :) But in the mean time I'll have a beautiful DSM to drive, while I slowly build up the parts pile for the "Buzzkill" setup. Built LR 2.4, twin-scroll HX40 Pro or HTZ 3582R(whichever I decide), built auto, etc. :)

Not exactly an /exciting/ update, but at least it's not a "parting this thing out and giving up!" like what always seems to happen.

Sounds like you will have a very solid motor in the end then.
I do love that color.

If we let every mishap stop us this thing would have been parted a long time ago haha. I don't think the owner ever wants to get rid of it though.

Maybe after I finish my jeep stroker (saw camo cherokee in background) and bmw e30 m30 turbo swap, I will have to swoop up a cheap 4g63 platform eclipse.

Yep! When you fall or stumble, get your ass back up and continue on. Plus I'd rather be driving this thing while saving parts instead of watching it sit and collect dust. It'll be a beast. Like the name implies, it'll be responsible for a lot of buzz kills. "Lol, look at this pretty blue chick car...stands no chance against my corvette/mustang/camaro/whatever. Wait, how's he pulling on me?!" :D

So...Miller made me an offer I couldn't refuse, and so along with my freshly rebuilt 0 mile revised 7 bolt w/ brand new OEM rotating assembly I'm getting from miller...I purchased a complete 2GB Talon swap kit minus front bumper from him for a steal. :D So this baby will be a fully 2GB Talon swapped that's Kona Blue. There's only been two others that I know of that has done this, and one of them wasn't fully swapped because it lacked the side slashes/garnishes/strakes. :D Can't wait til the motor gets here and I can get this baby running.

Progress!! The motor came in from Miller Import Parts and was better than I was originally expecting in a lot of ways. There was a couple hiccups, but Stevie Miller was helpful and if I have issues he'll help make it right. (Edit: I take everything back, Stevie scammed me with this engine, and was absolutely unhelpful. Refused to make anything right and has ignored me ever since after telling me the exhaust ports “look normal” to him. Avoid miller import parts at all costs)

That red has got to go. :p

During(I decided to fully degrease the engine and clean the ports up as well. Gotta have it clean! Look how good it looks. (There's Buzzkill himself in the background too)

Mmmh.

After! Self explanatory. All new OEM gaskets everywhere, new OEM timing belt and timing assembly. ARP head studs...and the red is gone! ;)

:D I spent most of the day cleaning everything, getting the timing set dead on, and putting my ducks in a row. Hopefully big progress tomorrow! :D

That dirty motor was the 0 mile rebuild from miller?
Should it not have been hot tanked? Or maybe I missed something.

Looks good now keep it up!

Our 20g from Justin should be in tomorrow so hopefully running and tuned by this weekend.

Yeah he purchased it from some dude who had it sitting for awhile. Either he willingly knew it was bad, or is the most ignorant person I’ve ever met. I think personally he scammed me on purpose because it’s obvious this engine is a hack job.

And hell yeah man. That should be a very fun car once all is up and tuned. 20G/2.4 will spool like crazy.

More progress! Didn't get the motor bolted in like I want because my parents had their truck broken into and had to deal with that...but I got a fair bit done. I degreased, cleaned, and painted even MORE stuff(the previous owner let this thing get ridiculous, man).

Exhibit A of the cleaning/painting

:D I like it better flat Aluminum colored than black because it's more aesthetically pleasing, AND it helps you see oil pan leaks better..

Exhibit B. Everything is bolted on and ready to drop in! Also, holy crap did mitsubishi go full retard on these OFH and Turbo coolant feed/drain lines...flexplate, pilot bushing for the TC, and starter plate are bolted up too but the camera died. I am excited!

Hopefully tomorrow will be a super productive day and I'll get it bolted in, filled up with fluids, and started! But even just bolted in and mostly hooked up will do fine. Stay tuned. :) Thanks for all the likes and kind words you guys have given me, even though it's just a boring stock rebuild instead of a built 2.4/medium turbo goodness. I've also decided to rename this build from Buzzkill, to Little Eagle due to my Cherokee heritage, and it just seems to fit better. :)

Well, progress is at a halt. Discovered today that I misplaced my oil feed line and no one locally has anything to make one from scratch, SO, I kind of stopped working on it because it's pointless to get it all together but not be able to run it due to no oil to the turbo. Plus I'm lacking coolant/heater hoses and a mess of other things. All of them are ordered and on their way. :) I leave you tonight with the picture of this. Looks so good sitting there all pretty.

Also for the record...for a 2G DSM, wait until AFTER you install the motor into the car, before you put the pullies and belts on the water pump/alt/ac compressor. In a 1G I've been able to finangle it...but on a 2G it's just straight like "nope!" Lol.

Eh, even if I'm talking to myself at this point that's fine. :p

Today I couldn't resist slapping the motor in the car even though I'm waiting on a few parts before it actually gets running. This thing looks so good...

And to replace the stock leaky 2G BOV, I'm going with a 1G BOV w/ adapter. The BOV I got was half-heartedly painted wrinkle black and it was faded, dusty, and terrible shape. Covered from cap to mount in black. Ugly as sin. So I had leftover paint(VHT flame proof and 500* engine enamel...good to know this BOV can handle engine temps. :p) and I think it looks AMAZING. Definitely gonna offset the engine bay nicely. So far the theme is silver and blue. :)

Looking good, man. What are your plans for break-in?

Looking good. Its nice when you can see things finally coming together.

Definitely! Especially since this thing has been sitting for so long. I'm kind of excited about the ported 7cm hotside on the 14B. At least it won't be PAINFULLY slow at 20-23psi for a daily.

Looking good, man. What are your plans for break-in?

Thanks man. :D I'll probably do what I've always done. Usually I'll start it up and hold it at 3,000 for 15 minutes, using cheapo dinosaur oil. Soon as the 15 minutes are up, drain the oil while it's hot, refill it with better quality but still cheap dino oil. Drive it like I'm going to drive it for the rest of its life(while seating the rings), and change the oil at 500 miles with decent/inexpensive dino oil, then 3000 w/ good quality synthetic oil. I've done all my motors like that and they've lasted a really long time under a lot of abuse. A guy just recently got my motor secondhand that I build probably 8 years ago and the rods are still almost silver like brand new. Lol.

I can't get over the blue. It looks great man, inspiration for me to get my car painted. Cayenne red though.

But I. Just say, I'm following and loving the look of your talon. Keep it up and keep it clean bro doing a great job :applause:

Wow. Way more love than I was expecting, haha. Thanks a bunch to everyone who has liked or commented. Means a lot!

Thanks brotha. I really love the blue as well. :D I was super pleased with how well this engine enamel matches the kona blue. It's not exact, but for a $7 paint-job hell, happier than a mofo. :p I really appreciate the kind words for sure!

Well, this little guy came in today. Hard to believe this is what held me back from starting it. Lol. But, it's all good, I've got a LOT more coming to me that I'm happy about too. :D Unfortunately I've injured my knee quite severely, and knees take for-freakin'-ever to heal...but soon as I can stand up for a couple hours without agony, I'm gonna be installing these parts soon as they get here and hearing Little Eagle come to life. I'm so damn excited. Here are the other two parts I got today too. :D

12039364_10207866908537706_8964639608073426994_n.jpg

:) 1G BOV adapter since I'm still on stock piping. This will match the silver and blue theme nicely!

Yes it's an eBay AFPR kit, however the diaphragm has been replaced with an authentic Aeromotive diaphragm/internals so it'll hold fuel like a champ. I got it from a trusted friend. Plus the blue/silver will match the engine bay nicely. :D

More updates to come after I heal enough to work on the car. I am excite! :p

Nice, your really close now!

On the adj fpr we got this geneiss (knock off tomei), it actually has really good reviews and seems to be working well. Was $25

I showed my friend your car who actually owns this car and he wants to paint it the same blue, does look so good.

I have our car running and am about to update profile check it out

We're kinda in the same boat dude, except my toy is an electric blue 92 Talon tsi AWD 5spd rolling chassis I bought nearly 10yrs ago. Been kickin around a few names for it but haddn decided on one for sure yet.

I'm slowly gatherin up the rest of parts needed for the g4cst engine as well as suspension and other necessities. It can be a long slow ride, but well worth it in the end.

There's lotsa 'Stangs, 'Vettes, Camaros and even a Lambo locally that need to find out what a well built 2.4t in a 20+ yr old car can do :>P

Kudos to ya for all the great work and steady stream of updates!
