Alright, so I tried to beat out the axle from the wheel bearing with a hammer, AFTER completely removing the axle nut. Yeah well now I ####ed up the end of the axle (threads) and the nut won't screw back on..... And the axle is still in the wheel bearing.

Can I re-thread the end of the axle? or am I screwed and need to replace it altogether?

Just a helpful hint to prevent this from happening again. Put white grease in the wheel bearing when installing axles.

^Yeah this is funny because now I have to replace my passenger side hub and bearing... when my drivers side has needed to be replaced since I bought the car.

DSMGraveyard wants $149 for a USED axle. I didn't even look at wheel bearings. Found used knuckle full assembly's w/hub on ebay for $40-$50.

I bought a brand new axle from Zone for $116 without the core, with the core it was $60, its not OEM but it has a limited lifetime warranty.

hey tweek814 u could get a small torch at advance...I kno for a fact that they sell them, I use to work for them, and buy the one in the box that comes with the bottle and the torch tip and buy the MAG gas(yellow bottle). the MAG is hotter then the propane that comes in the set. it all shouldn't come out to be more then 20-23 bucks with tax...use the MAG gas to heat it up. It will take a while for it to get hot but it will get it hot. If the store near you doesn't have it let me know and i'll get u the part numbers from the store near me for them to get u what you need.

For the price of replacing, its worth it. I chewed up some threads on one of my axles, spent a few hours trying to dye it, grind it, everything. Ended up calling around to find out its only 50-60 bucks at multiple places! Got one from Napa w/ lifetime warranty for 50 bucks

I believe I have everything you need but I won't be home until next Monday to check for sure. I'm only a little over an hour from you and you can have them for pretty cheap. I do not have an axle for you though. Let me know.

Well I'm doin' a tranny swap so I wont need the parts for a while..

I'm just gonna have to cut the axle and replace the hub/bearing and axle altogether. If you have a knuckle and wheel bearing w/hub and spindle I would gladly meet you and buy them off of you, and then just buy a new axle from advance. I found a whole assembly for $40 with everything I need but the axle on ebay for $40 so, just PM me w/your price.

Link to the ebay one. Only thing it doesn't have ABS, but my abs doesn't work anyway so..

I just did the same thing today, I mushroomed the heck out of the axle.

First I couldn't get the axle nut off with torch, impact, breaker bar, and what seems like gallons of PB blaster. So I resorted to grinding the nut, then snapping it off with an air chisel (shaft still in tact and good shape)

I thought everything could only get better from there, boy was I wrong!

Lathered the axle with PB, Took the LCA off (pain), rented a hub puller and broke the puller by tightening too tight with a 2' breaker bar and 2' cheater bar. Next tried hammer and block of wood, still no budging. Realized CV axles aren't too expensive, started SMASHING the axle with a hammer, ofcourse no budging, I even had an air chisel at it and no budging. Rinse and repeat with torch, nothing.

I'll be picking up a sledge hammer tomorrow, does anyone have any other suggestions?

I've only been using a propane torch, maybe I'll try the yellow bottle torches as well.

I'm worried there won't be anything left to hammer on the axle, it'll be mushed to nothing!

Try taking the bolts out of the hub assembly and see if you can pry the hub assembly loose from the axle.

That's what I was planning to do at first but I can't, the axle is in the way of the bolts.... can't even get a wrench on the end of it nevermind a socket.

I forgot to mention it's a 95 eagle talon tsi FWD... just rebuilt the engine because the balance and timing belt broke :(
