I purchased RCI 1200cc injectors and installing them has always been a nightmare.

With my FICs I can just put the top of the injector into the rail and use care/common sense and install them very easily.

With the RCI injectors, if you try to do that, the injectors loosely fall out of the top of the rail which frightens the crap out of me.

In speaking with RCI, they suggested that I install the injectors into the head first.

Not having any luck with that method either. If you slide the injector into the head the seal doesn't want to go in all the way and the injector pops out when you need it to stay put the most. If you put the seal into the head first, it is too tight and the injector pops out when you need it to stay in most.

Having this level of complication has caused me to break the seals going into the head forcing me to buy new seals at my expense only to rinse and repeat this hassle.

FWIW they have been referred to as Lucas injectors and Delphi injectors if these are tougher to install.

The injector o-rings are well lubed.

    Help!

So I ended up breaking the middle injector rail bolt due to the seals going into the head being effectively too large. I put the FIC injectors back in just to be able to move the car and I installed them in the head FIRST with no problem. If I try this with the RCI injectors the injectors pop out with the slightest breeze!

Can I just install smaller seals at the end of the injector?

I can hardly move, LOL! I was thinking of doing this, but wasn't sure if anyone was listening. Guess you are. Let me get some pics.

    Thank you.

PS - I think it will be best to provide tons of pics. I will provide pics in increments to get started. Please be patient while I brave Photobucket popups. For whatever reason, the angel of death never passed over my free account. :idontknow:

NOTE: PICS UPLOAD COMPLETE FOR NOW, PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO SEE ANY OTHERS

    Please note the following:

    1) The injectors have the following information on them:
    a) 12 LB7HR
    b) 0084
    c) 01D134B
    d) RCI
    e) 1200

    2) In one of the pics, I included and numbered the injector seals that came with the injectors before I had to replace them.

When I received the replacement set, seal "1" was black not green. The green o-ring is bigger than the 2 black o-rings that I received to replace seals "1&2". In either event, the green o-ring is still a bit small for the fuel rail.

I also included pics of the old o-rings because that green o-ring might help identify the injector.

Those appear to be Delphi/GM injectors that have been thrown in a lathe and turned down a little, I have the Delphi's and the same seals came with them and I went through the same thing years ago when messing with them, I learned to put the seals into the head first and then force the injectors into the seals after all four injectors are up in the rail, I just bolt it down evenly and call it a day, I used the non grooved seal, basically the stock seal setup and up top I used the green seals.

Hey, could you expand on the lathe and turned down a little. I am familiar with a lathe but the turning down part...hmm. :)

I like your tactic, but the injectors keep falling out from the rail...It is like a balancing act with these injectors where the FIC lock in there like a vacuum is sucking them in LOL. Did you have the falling from the rail problem?

I just meant that it looks like they put them in a lathe and take the top green layer from the GM injectors to make them look like shiny bare metal, if they are in fact Delphi's (they very well might not be at all) they come from the factory with a green like coating on them. You can try some thicker O-rings up top if you need to, just run down to your local Napa and ask to see some injector seal kits that they have in stock and take your rail and choose ones that give a nice tight fit.

Thanks boss, pretty interesting info here. I have some unused upper injector seals laying around that I could try.

Those are not gm delphi, those are standard motor products that are sold by accel, holley trick flow FIC ect. They are a domestic injector modded for dsm fitment. I use the same ones in my car. What I would do is omit #3, and use a normal dsm insulator for #4. You can get them at oriellys. It's BWD part for a 90's toyota tacoma with a 1.8 or some little 4cyl.

They are loose on the injector, but it seems to work for me.might need to put an oring in place of #3 to help hold it down.

If they are RC 1200 injectors, be aware that they are actually 1000 cc injectors.

They use a base fuel pressure of 55 PSI to get 1200cc's.

If you drop it to our base fuel pressure, it drops down to 1000cc's.

Useful information when you are dialing them in, just fyi.

I think that RCI injectors are a bit different than RC injectors. I knew that about the RC injectors but not sure about these. Thanks.
