Recently I was having shifting problems on my 5 speed.

The first paragraph describes my situation, even the 2nd, 4th, and reverse problem, it did this for about 2-3 weeks. Recently my car started shifting fine, for about 2-3 days. This morning I was leaving Home Depot and it worked fine up until the light, about a quarter mile. When the light turned green I went to pull away, I moved the gear lever into the first position but it wasn't actually in gear and it revved up like it was in neutral. I tried to pull away in 2nd and 3rd and same thing. It didn't feel like it was "clicking" into gear or actually going into gear. After waiting a minute, it actually went into first and I was able to limp the car into a parking lot. The strange thing about all of this is it is like there is no gear there. It doesn't grind or anything it's just like there's nothing there. I called a tow truck and had it towed to a shop, one that I don't trust after a faulty turbo diagnosis, and after about an hour they said I need a new transmission. I think I need shifter cables since there was no grinding. I figured I would ask the experts on here what they thought.
