Engine Wiring Harness help

    Hey guys I have a few questions.

    I am currently swapping my gsx from auto to 5speed. I picked up a used 5speed harness that was used in a 2g with a 6 bolt motor. The 2g cas pigtail was cut and a 1g was wired into place. My question is does anyone have a picture of the complete harness (connects to all the sensors on the engine and trans) laid out?

    There is a pair of 1 black and 1 red wire that run along the same harness as the CAS harness that is missing a plug...

    There is also a total of 8 cut wires that run with the TPS sensor that are cut also. There is a set of 1 black and 1 white wire that are enclosed in a gray tube that is insulated. I tired finding this on my auto harness, but it looks like that doesn't have it. (maybe they are different in auto and 5speed)?

    Ok to your first question. 2G 95' Harness with 1G CAS pigtail wired in, correct? In that case, the two extra wires (1 black, 1 red) you found go to the Cam Sensor pigtail, power and ground, you don't need those hooked up, the pigtail was cut off and 1 wire used from that pigtail. Basically, that just means it was wired in the RRE way:
    RRE Instructions

    To fix your harness (back to 95/96), you'd need both the Crankshaft position sensor and Camshaft position sensor PIGTAIL with wires intact so you can resolder them to harness.

    Not entirely sure about that other mess. Although, I'm pretty sure the black & white wires coming out of the GREEN insulation, THOSE are for your front oxygen sensor.

    NHerron, i am pretty sure this is a 95-96 harness. I do have a 97-99 engine, and trans. I was thinking to use my cam sensor and crank sensor pigtails from my original 97-99 auto harness to replace this hacked up 1g cas wiring.

    As for the hacked up other mess, does anyone have an extra harness laying around and could snap a picture or 2 of this part of the harness? As you can see, it splits off from the main harness, so its easy to find.

    Yes you can do that, it would be fine. The cam/crank sensors are not trans type dependent

    Also, that mass of wires sits on the transmission side. Now that I remember some more, there should be the starter solenoid signal wire with a little clip, coolant sensor, coolant sender, knock sensor, (trans) vehicle speed sensor, (trans) backup light switch, oxygen sensor

    Then you should have the TWO sets of black, red, blue wires. These are your cam and crank sensors on the 95-99' 4G cars. All of these wires should ALSO be a part of that harness mess^

    These are in the first picture, both blue wires and a red and black wire were used to wire in the 1g cas. I cut the 1g cas out, my next question is which blue wire goes to which sensor? There is 2 of each (2 blue, 2 red, 2 black). Obviously each sensor gets a red and black. Just dont know which blue wire goes to the cam or crank.

    So you have 6 clean cut wires basically right? If the 1G CAS plug is still attached you could find out but otherwise...

    The blue wire with the RED stripe is for camshaft. The blue with WHITE stripe is for crankshaft.

    Now I just need to figure out what clips I am missing off of that other mess. The 2 thicker black and white wires are not for my front o2 sensor, I do have that plug. (had a spare o2 sensor laying around, and the male connector fit into that plug. And its in the same location as my o2 sensor plug on my auto harness.) But I agree that those cut wire must be for the trans sensors...

    You don't have to swap the harness. You can just cut the trans harness from the engine harness and wire in the reverse lights and clutch switch. It seems like that would be a lot easier than trying to mess with that harness.

    Okay the only other one would be the one for the knock sensor, located on back of block. Your 97 GSX should have this knock sensor. I assume you know where that is

    So the black wire, white wire, and bare braided silver wire all come from the green insulation. That gets wired into to your knock sensor on back of block. The connector has two slots

    I always thought about this, but never fully understood it. Just yank out all of the auto trans wiring? Basically the stuff that clips into the tcu?

    That or just leave it there. You can either cut the plugs off and tuck the wires in side the loom, or pull the loom off and actually remove the wires from the transmission plugs to the tcu. I would just snip the harness's for the solenoids and pulse generators. The shift position switch plug will have a few wires that will still be used. The reverse light's are in that harness as well as the neutral safety circuit. You can just wire the 2 wires for the neutral safety circuit together and the car will start without pushing in the clutch, or wire up the clutch switch.
